Proverbs 12:26
The righteous should choose his friends carefully,
For the way of the wicked leads them astray.
Proverbs 13:20
He who walks with wise men will be wise,
But the companion of fools will be destroyed.
Proverbs 22:24-25
Make no friendship with an angry man,
And with a furious man do not go,
Lest you learn his ways
And set a snare for your soul.
Normally I just post these verses without comment, but considering his recent embrace of his party’s angry, violent, radical fringe, this week’s HA Bible Study is dedicated to Rob McKenna.

Roger Rabbit spews:
Kissinger Greenlighted D.C. Murder
“On the morning of Sept. 21, 1976, former Chilean foreign minister Orlando Letelier and two young colleagues drove to work in the scenic Washington neighborhood known as Embassy Row. As Letelier’s Chevrolet Chevelle passed the residency of the Chilean ambassador and rounded Sheridan Circle, a bomb placed under the driver’s seat by agents of the Chilean secret police detonated. Letelier, a vocal critic of Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet, died at the scene. His 26-year-old colleague, Ronni Karpen Moffitt, bled to death from a shard of metal that struck her jugular vein. Her husband, Michael Moffitt, was blown out the back window of the vehicle and survived.
“Now, a newly declassified cable from then-Secretary of State Henry Kissinger sheds more light on the action, and lack of action, taken by the U.S. government in the days leading up to that act of international terrorism in the capital city of the United States.
“Five days before the Letelier-Moffitt assassination, Kissinger called off a planned warning to Pinochet and other South American military leaders against orchestrating ‘a series of international murders’ of their opponents around the globe.
“The secretary ‘has instructed that no further action be taken on this matter,’ stated a September 16, 1976 cable sent from Africa, where Kissinger was traveling, to his Assistant Secretary of State for Inter-American affairs, Harry Shlaudeman back in Washington. Using identical language, Shlaudeman passed on these instructions four days later to his deputy to be transmitted to U.S. ambassadors in Chile, Argentina and Uruguay.”

Roger Rabbit Commentary: Let us not forget that Kissinger was a Republican secretary of state in a Republican administration.
Why would anyone, at least anyone with the conscience, vote for these people?

Roger Rabbit spews:
Kerry Killinger and other former WaMu top brass will be hauled onto the Senate carpet this week, and this is what they’ll hear:
“The Senate’s influential Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations will hold up WaMu as a case study in how high-risk home loans, allegedly made with little concern for the borrowers’ ability to repay, contributed to the financial system’s near-meltdown in the fall of 2008. ‘The recent financial crisis was not a natural disaster; it was a man-made economic assault,’ Sen. Carl Levin, D-Mich., chairman of the subcommittee, said in a statement Friday. ‘People did it. Extreme greed was the driving force. And it will happen again unless we change the rules.'”
http://seattletimes.nwsource.c.....amu11.html
Roger Rabbit Commentary: The WaMu debacle, and the larger disaster of which it was a part, were the natural, inevitable, and predictable result of an ideology.
Conservatives love to tout “freedom.” Yet, “freedom” is a relative concept, and one that must be evaluated in context.
Totalitarianism, of course, is a bad and evil thing. Taking away people’s freedom, and even lives, as the Nazis did when they arrested Jews, socialists, gypsies, and others and threw them in concentration camps and murdered them — as Ann Coulter suggested America’s political right do to liberals — is a bad and evil thing.
But giving people the “freedom” to exploit other people’s labor, to defraud them, to let greed-driven capitalists run riot over an entire society — as conservatives did when they were held America’s power of government — is also a bad and evil thing.
Taking away workers’ right to organize and collectively bargain for wages and working conditions — as conservatives want to do, and have done in “right to work” states — may give employers more “freedom” to make higher profits, but it certainly doesn’t expand the freedoms of the workers, or make things better for them.
When conservatives talk about “freedom,” they often mean giving the August Pinochets of the world the freedom to murder his political opponents on our soil without interference from our own government.
At a more local and mundane level, when a rightwing talk-radio host in Portland, Oregon defends the “freedom” of rightwingers to own pit bulls in urban neighborhoods, she’s talking about the “freedom” of people, who may or may not be responsible dog owners, to endanger you and your family.
When you hear rightwing ideologues talking about “freedom,” remember that what they really want is a free hand to do things that hurt you.
Why would anyone, at least anyone with even a scrap of social responsibility, vote for these people?
Roger Rabbit spews:
@3 We’re not angry. We’re determined. Determined to stop the cancer of conservatism from metastasizing to the point where it kills us. We’re applying radiation therapy to prevent a toxic ideology from spreading further in the body politic. By irradiating wingnut bullshit with facts and reason, we hope to stop this disease in its tracks.
Roger Rabbit spews:
@4 I would guess that the vast majority of progressives are not atheists, and those who are, whether they’re right or wrong about the factual question of existence of a God, aren’t hurting anyone with their beliefs.
The same cannot be said of the conservative ideology that brought our nation’s economy to ruin, or their fellow travelers who plant bombs and fly planes into government buildings, put pipe bombs in neighbors’ mailboxes, and throw bricks through congressmen’s windows and try to blow up their houses by cutting gas lines.
You’re on the wrong side, goatfucker.

@9 Cynner- Oh, that the liberals did dominate the Democratic Party, but we don’t. Gitmo’s open. Shrub, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Yoo are all untried for their war crimes, Single Payer is still a more than a decade away, no liberal on the Supreme Court (no, not one), banksters are no better regulated than before and conservatives are still in charge at Treasury, Defense, the Fed. Abortion rights are still up to be bartered away in Congressional logrolling, and the Senate sits on liberal nominations for over a year. Domination. Ike was to the left of our guy in the White House, and the liberals are ok with that because he’s not crazy, ignorant, or angry and may yet get sone things done for this country. But liberal? We wish.

“Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able?
Then he is not omnipotent.
Is he able, but not willing?
Then he is malevolent.
Is he both able and willing?
Then whence cometh evil?
Is he neither able nor willing?
Then why call him God?”
– Epicurus (Greek philosopher, BC 341-270)
Mr. Cynical spews:
Deathfrogg–
Ahhh, the old Epicurus Riddle.
I will say, it has caused many Biblical Scholars and Atheists alike to pause and consider–
How do you define “good” and “evil”
God clearly gives us “free will” to make choices…some of which are obviously evil.
Why do you think God is merely a “puppeteer” who controls ALL of our actions??
Mr. Cynical spews:
Epicurus also seems to believe he or any man is able to understand God completely.
The Bible gives us enough to get by on this Earth…but there are plenty of unanswered questions that will be answered for those of Faith.
You Atheists who believe you die and that’s it…why are you so concerned??
Are you trying to undermine the Faith of others?
Why would you do that??
What is the purpose of life for you Atheists??
Deathfrogg spews:
“If he is infinitely good, what reason should we have to fear him?
If he is infinitely wise, why should we have doubts concerning out future?
If he knows all, why warn him of our needs and fatigue him with our prayers?
If he is everywhere, why erect temples to him?
If he is infinitely just, why fear that he will punish the creatures that he has filled with weaknesses?
If he is infinitely reasonable, how can he be angry at the willfully blind, to whom he he has given the liberty of being unreasonable?
If he is inconceivable, why occupy ourselves with him at all?
If he has spoken, why is the world still not convinced?”
– Percy Bysshe Shelley, (1792-1822)
God spews:
Shelly had it right.
I am that I am.
I am what I am.
I am not what I am not.
If I needed man’s worship, why would I have created man with free will?
Perhaps Mr. Cynical is afraid, not of Me but of his own world?
Fear is not love.
YLB spews:
The KLOWN seems so angry that there are those who don’t believe as he does..
What a way to go through life – obsessed with that. Coming here to HA to cackle and boast that his views are gaining traction and then being frustrated every election time that the opposite is happening.
Deathfrogg spews:
Actually, Epicurus stated flat out that no single person could ever understand the nature of God, and that no institution of dogmatic belief systems could ever represent or ameliorate the true needs of individuals or the societies they live in.
The upshot of that is, that you cannot dogmatize a belief system so rigidly that it cannot respond and therefore adapt to changes in environment or the resulting cultural mores.
The Bible or whatever little black book a person believes in hardly approaches the illustration of the needs of any given society, given the fact that so much of it seems to be so deeply rooted in parable and myth as to be merely in the form of Riddle, and therefore incomprehensible to anyone not raised within that society with its nuances of vernacular and social behaviors.
This is why the Western versions of the Christian Bible cannot even begin to approach the regional moral concerns of people in Central Africa or South Asia. Such philosophies can only resonate within a moral structure that already exists within a given cultural example.
For example, warfare in Africa was a formal affair, with specific patterns of behavior and acceptable conduct. Mass casualties and destruction were extremely rare in Africa. Then the White man came, with his bibles and guns, and taught the Africans that to conduct warfare can only mean total destruction of the opposing culture, and mass killing became the normal purpose of warfare. It is all about displacing population for control of the available natural resources. Religion just makes convincing people easier. It is just a tool to manufacture cultural boundaries, be they real or purely artificial, to serve the purposes of the most charismatic person in the room.
We are concerned, because those artifical cultural boundaries manufactured by the dogmatic belief systems and their self-appointed representatives in the mass media are now starting to intrude upon our society, and actively threaten the use of violence if people refuse to close their minds and just accept those peoples ideas of rigidly dogmatic cultural mandates.
There is no room for adaptation to scientific revelations in dogmatic religious institutions. The two are mutually exclusive.
I would rather believe my own eyes and ears, than some smooth talking grifter waving a book of fables in my face. Such people always rationalize the use of violence in defense of their dogma. History has proven that in every decade, of every century of the entirety of human civilization.
A charismatic sociopath will always gain more social influence and power than a milquetoast genius.
Roger Rabbit spews:
@8 Has it ever occurred to you that the fact you say something doesn’t make it true?
Roger Rabbit spews:
@9 “Can you explain that Rog?”
Yeah. Both parties and all candidates depend on corporate money. To change that, you have to get rid of the wingnut Supreme Court so we can bar corporate money from politics, and pass laws providing public financing of campaigns. Of course, GOPers are on the wrong side of both issues, which makes me wonder why anyone concerned about Gregoire taking money from the likes of WaMu would ever vote Republican.

cynical, I am still waiting for your explanation as to how we got out of the depression. I say we got out of it thru big government, more spending, more borrowing, government takever of industriy in ww2, then continuing with gi bill and marshall plan all of which stimulated demand proving that a big gumming leads to a big economy. you continualyl talk as if lower taxes, lower spending and limiting borrowing is what produces a bigger economy so I am asking you again, if that’s so, how did we get out of the depression? The fact is we got out of it just like I said. so, you’re wrong and you’re a fool.
Kinda like your pals who continually equate france or sweden with countries that have gulags and no elections. It’s so incredibly ignorant, you could say you are all a bunch of total fools.
Admit it. We got out of the depression thru FDR using spending and borrowing to create demand both in the thirties and in ww2. This means your central thesis is wrong.
Do you have the character to admit you are wrong?
A fool wouldn’t. Because he’s a fool.
