Haunting images of our collective past, the song NEVER fails to bring me back to those days, I was in HS, in Jersey. It was a very divisive time… then, like now we were a nation divided in time of war…what is that old saw…those who refuse to learn from history are condemned to repeat it…
unfortunately McCain and Palin are historical illiterates

Kent State is not studied to the extent needed…… the horror of killing unarmed students for political beliefs still makes me so angry.
And, only by sheer luck has it not happened recently. Instead, the cops take out people of color one by one.
This is the ideal vs. the truth. Not pretty.
The R. convention had police tactics close to total suppression. Fear works.
Pssst, Jerry, both of the the mayors of of the Twin Cities are Democrats.
Sorry to have to publicly embarrass you.

Hey troll, perhaps you failed to hear or read any of the work that constitutes real journalism by Amy Goodman and her people who were also beaten, shoved to the ground and bloodied for nothing more than covering the protests. The security was overseen and provided by the cops in conjunction with and under the direction of that great new Republican fascist boogeymen from homeland security.
Try some real journalism at Democracy Now! You might learn something.
Sorry kid, I did the research on it when it was happening. The Twin City and County police were in charge, with help from other agencies, including the Feds.
Wanna see some pics of Minneapolis/Saint Paul police officers “suppressing the freedom” of some protesters with a can of mace? Didn’t think so. That ought to shut you up.
God I love taking a baseball bat of truth to some moron’s face.
Troll out.

@3: Dear Idiot troll:
I was in Minneapolis protesting. The huge majority of protesters were peaceful and I saw no violence at all. But I did see lot’s of cops in riot gear. Apparently there were some anarchists there – I never saw them.
The city police were very nice (most of them were in support of the demonstration with their eyes) – the riot cops (national guard?) were quite mean and antagonistic.

Dear Troll-
Apparently you missed in your extensive “research” the reports of secret service and Homeland security personnel directing the mass arrests of journalists and others who were actually covering the initial police response. This was widely reported by representatives of the National Lawyers Guild and in-person witnesses to the events in St Paul. Try and expand your research beyond Fox News and RNC press releases.
I guess a police state of true fascism in America may please you. But some of us consider the bill of rights to be more than just a quaint idea or a piece of paper.
I guess if we disagree on this you will support a true independent investigation to get to the bottom of this and find the real truth, as to what really happened and who was controlling the events, as called for by The National Journalism guilds and others.
BTW, your racist comment tonight make me sick. I think the real truth of what has been the history of this country on racial issues is to you, as Jack Nicholson’s character commanded, a case of “you can’t handle the truth.”
So take the fucking bat to your own head and try and beat an iota of sense into it. Its going to take many hard shots to make a dent.

I was born in 1975 so this is a question about events before my time. I was recently checking out 270towin.com and one of the things that blew me away was the magnitude of Nixon’s win in 1972. 520 vs McGovern’s 17 electoral votes. I take on faith that the nation was very divided in the late 60’s early 70’s. But if this true what explains Nixon’s landslide re-election? This is a serious question. I wish I had a better understanding of the mood of the country at that time and the specific political considerations at play.

@3 Pssst, Troll, mayors don’t arrest people, cops do, and the sheriff who kicked in those doors and arrested all those people is a Republican.

Troll’s “research” consisted of whacking off into a peanut butter jar while looking at the pictures in Penthouse magazine.

@8 Yes, isn’t it interesting that a guy who garnered over 500 electoral votes resigned 2 years later to avoid impeachment and was pardoned by his successor to keep him out of prison? You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can’t fool all of the people all of the time.
