It’s weird. There’s something going on here that we don’t yet know about.
Winning an indictment against Trump for the misuse of funds seemed like a very, very steep climb to me. It would probably depend a lot on the testimony of Safety School Lawyer Michael Cohen. Which is big time garbage and fucked up in too many ways. Cohen can be dismantled on cross very easily. He’s just a terrible witness and a piece of shit human being. So that would leave Trump’s advice of counsel defense in good shape and likely to win over at least one or two jurors. About the only rebuttal Bragg has is a twenty year old deposition in which Trump makes it very plain under oath in a previous proceeding that he personally knows and understands the campaign finance laws. That feels iffy.
So unless something else came up I would not have expected this indictment now. Except that according to CNN there are something like 34 counts in the indictment. Which is about twice as many as I would have expected. So maybe there’s something more going on? I guess we’ll find out when the indictment is unsealed.
