Are you excited? Free transit (h/t) this weekend. Re-register your Orca Card. Look at the card reader confused as it doesn’t work. What fun.
Seriously, if you don’t normally use transit, this could be a good weekend to try it if you live in the Puget Sound region. There are soccer and baseball games to go to. Downtown is hopping, and it’s a nice weekend to go somewhere. Please wear a mask, though.
And hey, wash your hands right now. And get vaccinated or boosted if you haven’t yet.

Trump and Republicans deregulated the baby food makers leading to a massive recall after tainted baby food killed babies.
Republicans. Brown illegal babies are stealing food out of mouths of white babies. Vote for us and we will get rid of them.

If one believes the reports on YouTube and other sources, Russia is losing badly in Ukraine. Somehow I can’t buy into this narrative. I am sure the Russians have suffered serious losses, but I doubt it is at the levels suggested in some of those reports. I am sure China is watching Russia’s performance with much interest. The Chinese may have to move against Russia in some future conflict so as to have access to Russian natural resources.

Would depend on how you define “badly”.
A global nuclear power with earth’s fourth largest defense budget ranking far ahead of all other European nations, with more than a million standing armed forces is being ground to a stalemate by a nation with forces less than one fifth it size, a tiny fraction of its spending, and a GDP about a tenth its size.
Taken in isolation that would be a colossal humiliation, if not an outright defeat. But factoring in that Ukraine’s survival and success has been leveraged upon a concerted effort of global security cooperation and assistance not witnessed since World War II, it’s the greatest military, and strategic loss suffered by Russia in a century. Putin and his generals have squandered immense resources, ruined their own military morale, fractured their own global security alliances, temporarily displaced six million people, incinerated nearly any willingness to bend to their demands, driven formerly neutral Finland (and others) into NATO, and isolated themselves, and possibly all of their energy resources for dubious strategic gains.
Putin is Russia’s Trump but with one big difference: because the United States yet preserves democracy, Democrats were able to successfully vote America’s dangerous, egotistical imbecile out of office and relocate him to a private sex club in Florida.

Normally I’m against free transit, but I understand the reason this weekend. Transition to the new ORCA system. The old one is roughly 15, but the Ticket machines date back to the beginning of SOUNDER.

@5 A curious feature of the Russian military system, apart from conscription and hazing, is they pressure conscripts into signing 5-year contracts. On the surface, this would seem like a bad deal for the conscripts. But there’s a twist: It makes them “contract soldiers” instead of conscripts. In other words, employees. They can and do refuse to relocate their place of employment to Ukraine, and when they do, the Russian military can only fire them. There are no criminal penalties. They merely leave the army. So, not surprisingly, large numbers of contract soldiers are sacrificing their employment in the army rather than serve in Ukraine. Entire battalions are being gutted. And there’s not a damned thing Putin can do about it, because this quirk is enshrined in Russian law. Hence his call for more conscripts. Who will be “offered” contracts. Rinse, repeat …
Roger Rabbit spews:
It’s hard to conceive of a more stupidly run military than Russia’s. And the imagination of their commanders doesn’t extend beyond flattening everything and killing everybody.

11,
More to the point is that our degenerate shambling idiot troll, in yet another of his endless serial efforts to select a “better” Democrat, chose Ms. Gabbard. This clearly unqualified, obviously corrupted, and compromised peddler of conspiracy theories and GRU sponsored disinformation is Degen’s example of a Democratic Party nominee he could support. And while it may be obvious that this is only him “trolling” the nomination contest for the benefit of his Orange Porn Daddy, it also speaks volumes about Degen’s incredibly poor judgement. He got duped. He fell for Gabbard’s obvious grift, in much the way he falls for Glenn Greenwald’s phony act and so many others, Including Trump’s.
This really should surprise nobody. Degen’s life is marked by poor judgement. It’s the theme that defines his objectively mediocre accomplishments starting from such auspicious and privileged beginnings. At each key decisive moment that we can credibly pin down the record shows that Degen made precisely the worst possible choice.
And at the end of the day, this is the reason these assholes are so full of “grievance” and resentment.
Steve spews:
He fell for Gabbard’s obvious grift
He didn’t fall for a grift, Elijah. He knew what he saw in her and he eagerly embraced her for being Putin’s pawn, which for him, is a kindred spirit.
