Hospitals are entering surge measures. We are deferring research visits and shifting staff in an “all hands on deck” kind of situation. BJH had a 30+% surge in COVID admissions overnight alone. We are nowhere near the peak, and it is by far the worst it has ever been.
My hospital is full, we cannot accept transfers from the critical access hospitals we support. ICU is full, floors are full. Not enough nurses to go around, but we’re not as bad off as most are in that respect. Patients who are admitted are sicker than usual, requiring more time and effort to care for. People are dying every day. ER is packed beyond capacity. Lots of “I have covid, what should I do?” phone calls in the middle of the night, reducing our already poor sleep.
Our ICU is also full 9 of 11 rooms are Covid paralyzed ventilator patients. Most will not leave until they are bagged up.
Per the St. Louis Pandemic Task Force post on Facebook from today, 69% of hospitalized patients are unvaccinated.
