The sickening lack of empathy, and refusal to put the interests and safety of the minor ahead of the adults in a fucked up situation only underscores how completely inadequate police are as “protectors” for our communities.
But a deeper concern and focus should also be given to the prolonged episodes in this encounter (and many others) when officers very obviously and quite deliberately obscure the body-worn cameras during some of the most difficult parts of the episode. The desire to actively obstruct accountability speaks to a very big problem with modern policing. Nothing police do intentionally in the course of their duties should be anticipated as a source of embarrassment or shame.
Prior to seeing this longer recording I was more inclined to offer the benefit of the doubt to improperly trained police put in a nearly impossible situation. Now I’m convinced more than a few of them should be removed from law enforcement. They knew what they intended to do was wrong. They sought to obscure that. And now they will rely on Blue Line mentality and slobbering badge bunnies like Tara to protect them from accountability.

This is a blatant false equivalency. It’s also an entirely bullshit argument and frankly, a rather bizarre one. Yes, past election results do get challenged. This happens. What does not normally happen is a violent riot and attempted right-wing coup of our government, after that challenge had been rejected by each and every judge in 60+ court cases.
Objecting to a state’s electoral certification is built into the constitution, so merely objecting is perfectly fine.
But there are rules about these objections. Very specific rules.
The most important rule is that an objection must be cosigned by House and Senate members in order for that objection to be put up for discussion. This rule is not in and of itself up for debate.
All these Democrats objecting in 2000, 2004 and 2016, who’s objections were not co-signed by any senator had their objections heard and recorded in the official House record, thus the objection winds up being heard, but not acted on in discussion.
What happened Jan 6th was obviously much more than that. Each objection made to AZ, WI, MI, PA and GA votes was, in fact, cosigned by a senator, forcing the joint session to retire to chambers and discuss the objection’s merits and to accept of deny the objection. This is somewhere in the area of a two hour process.
This, coupled with Tuberville’s public statements that Trump WANTED this delay to certification, is a direct indication that Trump was coordinating the objections with members of the senate. This delay was intentionally timed so he could sick his mob of angry idiots on the Capitol.
