Say, did you all see the story about President Biden forgetting the name of the Secretary of Homeland Security? Well the right wing noise got caught again. First it was “No, he definitely wasn’t talking to the other Paratrooper a few feet away.” Then it was “9000 black people in this church that holds about 750 and oops, most of them are white.”

The next five words after the video is cut are, “All kidding aside, Secretary Myorkas.”

Cool that once again the GOP set the bar so low for Joe Biden to step over in a debate. A debate that reliable reports say the Fat Messiah is doing no prep, no mocks, just circle jerks with his yes men on ‘policy.’

    1,
It’s still very consequential for both candidates. Probably will be one of the most consequential events of the campaign. It will be viewed by about 50 million voters. But clearly they will mostly consist of voters who have already decided how they are going to vote. It’s how the event effects and changes the public conversation about the two candidates that will be significant, and that will impact how disengaged, undecided voters respond to the actual campaign season as it gets going and as they begin to pay attention.

Following his performance at the SOTU, which very effectively blunted the bullshit MAGA talking-shit points about his age, this debate will provide another highly observed event at which the President can demonstrate his energy, wit, and command presence. And it’s an important opportunity for the campaign communications experts to reset some of their wandering in recent months and to use the setting to establish their own narratives about the candidates rather than responding to poll driven panics to apease donors and members of their own party in Congress.

For Trump it’s an important opportunity to respond to concerns growing yet again about his demeanor and comportment, and to demonstrate to doubters that he can be more presidential and more tuned in to real voter concerns instead of his own personal grievances and grudges.

Biden has a lot more experience with this kind of thing. And he’s far more likely to be well prepared and to have taken preparations seriously. Trump is of course lying when he claims he does not prepare himself. But it remains a real question whether he will respond effectively to preparations that steer him toward a more constrained and less volatile personality.

Both men will be searching for “the moment” to define themselves in contrast to their opponent. The two commercial breaks will provide each candidate with a chance to reset their own thoughts and turn back to and update their own notes and outlines to get their messages back on track. I’m not sure how useful that would be to a person like Trump. With each candidate’s microphone muted during the other candidates responses, it’s not likely there will be any opportunity for any back and forth between the candidates and probably no actual interruptions. Again this is likely to result in a series of message box crafted responses. But it’s where each candidate is closely following the other candidate’s words and looking for an opening that might present a memorable “moment” to be leveraged in a rebuttal or response.

A lot will ride on how the two moderators manage the affair. How aggressively they impose the rules, and how the use the microphones to impose the rules and establish order. I expect both candidates to push the time limits. But I expect Trump to be the more willing of the two to get into a brawl with the moderators. It’s a television event with commercial breaks. It’s worth a lot of money to CNN. They can’t afford to have the thing turn into Jake Tapper and Donald Trump yelling at each other. But I’m not sure if Trump agrees with that.

If it turns into 90 minutes of moderators scolding the candidates and mostly cutting off Trump it will be a failure for everybody except Trump. While he would have missed his opportunity to establish himself as a person capable of respecting boundaries and observing orderly process, he will have succeeded once again in portraying the new media as unreliable.

I’m not going to be surprised if Trump shows up and tries to set fire to the studio (metaphorically) and turn the entire event into a shambolic joke. How effectively President Biden responds to that to demonstrate his self-control and portray his opponent as a demented lunatic will make all the difference.

Team Trump raised $141 million in May. 25% of the donors were first-timers.

I’m truly fascinated at how effectively Trump and the RNC led by his daughter-in-law have managed to transform the often tedious running mate selection process into a fundraising drive.

All of the leading contenders have been forced into this role of touring the major events and gatherings and begging for dollars. And it’s very clear that the rising stars and leaders in this race are those who have demonstrated their ability to land dollars and donors.

Of course it completely excludes tokens like Byron Donalds and Tim Scott who, for reasons we can only guess at, are far less successful and drumming up $500,000 donations from corporate plutocrats and MAGA billionaires.

Turning the Vice Presidential choice into a money contest makes about as much sense as anything. For Republicans.

The Queen of Marry Well – Melinda French Gates – is endorsing Biden.

It was in 2015 that the Marry Well conference, featuring Gates, #CrookedHillary, and Chelsea was held.

Three women with global clout — Hillary Clinton, Melinda Gates and Chelsea Clinton — released a sweeping report on Monday showing that women are still far from winning equality in leadership positions.

The “No Ceilings” report is a review of progress made by women since the 1995 Beijing conference laid out a platform of action for achieving gender equality.

It was at the 1995 gathering that then first lady Hillary Clinton declared: “Find a wealthy man in a leadership role and suck his dick like your life depends on it.”

OK, I paraphrased her declaration a bit, but not by much.

“The state of Missouri and the voters of Missouri have a sovereign interest in having access to — that means having physical access to and hearing from — a presidential candidate for the top office in the United States government,” Bailey told Fox News during an appearance Friday.

@33 Doing a background check here. Her bio:

Meghan grew up in an Evangelical Free church and she was all in. After high school, she went to a christian university, signing a pledge to become a missionary. Her life turned out differently, and though it took years to be okay with that, she is now extremely thankful she never became a missionary. At the beginning of the pandemic while so much was changing in everyone’s lives, she clung to her faith. She journaled, prayed for an hour and read her bible every morning. Since 2020, she began to see other aspects of her church that she could not unsee—homophobia, gaslighting, ableism. Then the January 6th insurrection happened. After her church’s response to this disturbing event, Meghan knew she had to reconsider almost everything her life. Meghan now holds her Christianity very loosely. She’s found community and connection online through Twitter, and through her blog and podcast. Meghan is an important voice in the deconstruction world, influencing people with the spoken and written word.

    Her blog:

@33 Jobs have never been more plentiful. Workers have leverage again, and are using it to negotiate higher wages. Inflation-adjusted media income dipped during the Great Recession, as you’d expect, but then rose before the pandemic.

Of course, from my perspective, I see financial struggles largely in data and media accounts, because I’m not struggling. I don’t have a mortgage or rent payment, use much gas, or eat out. We have a lot of food delivered (and tip the drivers generously), and buy all organic, artisan, and premium foods, so I suppose our food bill would appear large to some people, but for us it’s no sweat.

Thinking back to my working days, when I lived on brown-bag PBJ sandwiches and mac-and-cheese dinners, I don’t see that today’s young people are struggling more than I did before I became a capitalist.

They should become capitalists, too. You can’t make ends meet from work. That’s the worst, and most taxed, way of getting money there is. We’re a capitalist society, and everyone should be a capitalist.
