I can only assume in the case of an incompetent, trust fund plutocrat like Musk that what he thinks has been “damaged” is any presumption that people like him should be held above the law.
He gives us nothing else to work with. And that makes the most sense.
Of course Trump’s MAGA victims, who are all well accustomed to performative groveling and cult-like worship, will feel aggreived by this crushing defeat. But though they will claim it was “unfair”, like Musk they’ll offer less than nothing on which to pin that claim.
Because for the most part they don’t believe it.

Republicans are a group of Americans who have consistently demonstrated a level of obsequiousness, servility, and denial unprecedented in American history since the slave states declared a rebellion. They will continue on this path of destruction. They won’t “come to their senses”. We can only hope that a percentage of them will simply lose interest in the project of destruction that they have embarked upon and withhold their votes from a convicted felon.

Okay. Other than the fact that convicted felon Donald Trump himself was so outspoken and aggressive in his constant shouting before and during the trial that it was necessarry to impose a gag order on him to protect the jury and to protect his rights to due process, what exactly was supposed to be “political” about it?
He was accused of a serious crime. There was sufficient evidence presented to a grand jury over a period of three months at the beginning of last year to convince that grand jury to hand down an indictment indicating their agreement that it should be decided at trial. The crimes charged are crimes that are frequently charged in New York. Over 10,000 FBS charges brought in the last ten years. The most serious, and when the statutory elements are present, are charged as felonies. Those most serious felonies typically result in a custodial sentence. There’s nothing political about any of that.
In June of 2023 convicted felong Donald Trump filed a motion to have the trial removed to federal court. In July federal judge Alvin Hellerstein denied that motion ruling that “Trump has failed to show that the conduct charged by the Indictment is for or relating to any act performed by or for the President under color of the official acts of a President.” He was not setting up fake business records to conceal hush money payments as part of his official duties as President.
He got a short delay on his trial schedule to consider evidence newly released from the SDNY. He filed more than a dozen motions for dismissal between July and April. Got hearings for all of them. Got denied. Many of those full motion hearings were to consider claims as thin and legally fictional as that the DA is “pursuing a delluded fantasy”. Others simply argued that facing trial would inconvenience the defendant while he was also campaigning for elected office. On three separate occasions by three different NY Appellate Judges the convicted felon Trump had his last minute motions for dismissal or delay denied.
Of about sixty prospective jurors available for his trial, every single one selected to serve was approved by convicted felon Trump’s own defense attorneys after careful public examination and interrogation in Trump’s presence. Not a single one of the twelve jurors who sat in deliberation and eventually found Trump guilt on all 34 felony counts was ever objected to by the defense attorneys or by Trump himself. None of these jurors were known to each other in any way before the trial nor to any party taking part in the trial, neither the defendant, the judge, the attorneys for the people, the attorneys for the defense, or any of the witnesses.
If any part of the evidence, the documents entered into evidence, or the witness testimony was overtly or even slightly political or partisan in nature I have yet to hear about it. These were business invoices, checks, check memos, and receipts, phone calls about those payments, text messages about the payments, and witness recollections about the payments and the purposes of the payments.
The jury retired to weigh the evidence and after ten hours of careful deliberation delivered the vedict that Trump was guilty of all 34 felonies charged.
“The trial was political” is now just a thing these people say to avoid facing who they are and what they have done. Nobody should let that go. It’s no different than the still ongoing claim from Republicans that the 2020 election “was rigged”. It was not. And at least now whenever one of the MAGAturds says “the 2020 election was rigged” every responsible journalist immediately responds by saying “that is not true”. This should be no different.
“The trial was political” is a vague lie that should never go unchallenged. There was nothing political about any part of that prosecution or that trial.

1. How does Trump’s conviction increase Biden’s accomplishments?
2. What’s your evidence that not voting for Trump equates to a vote for Biden, rather than 1) leaving the presidential choice blank 2) voting for a candidate from a third party 2) staying home?
If they wanted RFK Jr. because Biden hasn’t done enough, how does the verdict change that?

Elijah Dominic McFuckhead spews:
@23,
Money spent by a federal candidate in furtherance of their political campaign must be disclosed in federal campaign finance statements. Deliberately misclassifying a federal campaign expense as a private business related legal expense if a violation of federal law.
The Tacopina defense was a failure not only because Joe Tacopina is a shitty lawyer who was incredibly out of his depth, but also because the evidence clearly demonstrated that the purposes of the payments and the record keeping fraud was to interfere with the election. It was campaign related. Convicted felon Trump did not give one single shit who knew he was fucking around and barebacking sex workers. He introduced them to his celebrity pals. He refused to wear condoms. He brought him around his security details.
And it also fails because Trump himself made and published public statements admitting that the campaign needed to keep the stories out of the media.
It finally fails because of the timeline, the nature and the structuring of the payments. Edwards continued paying Hunter after his campaign was already suspended.
In any case, this is a legal, technical objection and goes to the finding of fact by the jury. So it has nothing to do with politics and certainly nothing to do with the politics of the judge. The NY statute for the class E felony of falsification of business records requires that the jury find a separate criminal purpose behind the offense. It spells out that the separate criminal purpse does not have to be established by a separate criminal conviction, but only has to be proved to the jury in the present case. The people’s closing included an argument to the jury about violations of federal campaign disclosure laws because it was part of the case as defined by the statute.
Try an example.
Let’s say your are employed in NY by a federal contractor and your job includes entering records of business transactions for your employer. Let’s say deliberately misclassify an entry of an expense as a routine payment for legal work that was really a bribe to a federal contract officer. NY will charge you with the class E felony. Bribing a federal contract officer is a federal offense. That’s up the the local US Attorney. That office has its own procedures, standards, and requirements. It convenes its own grand juries. And it negotiates its own agreements. They don’t consult NY. Nevertheless, the underlying criminal violation supporting the class E felony can be that federal crime, even if it is never actually charged by that United States Attorney. NY just has to prove to your jury that you falsified the business record to cover up a bribe of a federal official.
The NY randomly chosen and carefully screened NY jury weghed the people’s evidence and came to the conclusion that in all 34 cases where a business record was falsified surrounding these payments to sex workers, the underlying reasons for the falsifications were themselves criminal. That’s a finding of fact arising from due process.
Appeal that if you can. I doubt it gets you anywhere in NY.
I’m always prepared to concede to magically constructive thinking on the part of the deeply corrupt fed soc puppets on the Roberts Supreme Court. But it calls for them to engage in more than just re-writing New York state law. They have to substitute themselves for a NY state jury.

I just refuse to engage with these assholes on false premises, bad faith arguments, or paranoid conspiracy theories. And I think that’s a growing problem for Republicans. Because with each passing day that Trump and MAGA are in control of the GOP the party’s communications and negotiating positions are more exclusively defined by false premises, bad faith, and paranoia.
Let’s fix immigration. But we can’t do that by building a fucking wall. Let’s balance the budget. But I won’t pretend we can do that with tax cuts.
I think there are areas of policy on which Democrats can reach agreements with Republicans and I think the recent history has demonstrated that. There’s a long and difficult road ahead that will often require Democrats to be the adults in the room and show their Republican colleagues that it’s possible to do more for their constituents than feed their greivances. But it can’t happen if every single piece of legislation is being framed with floor speeches by Bleach Blonde Bad Built Butch Body demanding to subpoena Mayorkas’ housekeeper or Farmer Jim threatening impeachments over policy disputes. And I’m entirely unwilling to begin or engage in any conversation with these kinds of people until they set that shit aside. They are dog shit. I avoid stepping in dog shit. Roger Rabbit spews:
@34 “Let’s balance the budget. But I won’t pretend we can do that with tax cuts.”
Departed HA troll Mark the Redneck would disagree. He claimed tax cuts increase revenues. This is demonstrably false, as all you have to do is look at the statistics and see what happened to federal revenues after the Reagan, Bush, and Trump tax cuts (they dropped), but he wouldn’t listen.
I’ll repeat what I posted back then. A 0% tax rate produces zero revenue. A 100% tax rate also produces zero revenue, because nobody’s going to work or produce income if the government takes it all. It follows that tax revenues are optimized at some rate between 0% and 100%. A tax rate above or below this number reduces revenue. In a democracy, the actual tax rate will be below this number, because people who can choose their government don’t vote to maximize taxation. Therefore in a democracy cutting taxes will reduce revenue. The claim that tax cuts spur economic activity that increases tax revenue may sound good in theory, but doesn’t prove out when you look at the actual revenue statistics after a tax cut.

There was a miniscule drop in revenues associated with the early Reagan recession, and there was a drop during The Great Recession. Other than that there was no decrease in federal revenues from the Reagan through GWB43 term.
