A thing investors have noticed about Elon and his bullshit and the value of the companies he owns.
Elon claims there are over a million orders for the Cybertruck and that unbridled enthusiasm has an impact on perceived future value.
Having to recall every single delivered cybertruck gives it up. Look at the coverage.
Institutional investors, “Wait…they’ve delivered less than 4,000 of them? Hang on…at this rate a 40 year old seeing a cybertruck on the road and wanting one will be (calculator) 270 years old before he can take possession.”

It was always the same basic problem for Tesla.
Building average quality cars at scale simply requires massive investments in design and manufacturing engineering that Tesla never made. They went for market buzz and early adoption instead. Even their range solution was short sighted. Opting to focus on advanced, cutting edge power management and battery thermal management got them good range with existing battery technology. But it meant that in the long run, once other EV makers matched their power/thermal management, they would be potentially surpassed in the technology most critical to EV performance. It was a “quick fix” approach that helped them initially avoid some more expensive R&D and painstaking, incremental engineering.
All the other investment failures – parts availability, painfully slow and sparse service center network, fit and finish, safety – become fatal to the brand the minute it stops being “first in class”, “innovative”, and “brag-worthy”.

Instead of showcasing a day-of-game early Spring ticket price to see the Mariners strike out at a MLB-record pace against a team with the second-worst record in baseball, maybe showcase StubHub ticket prices for the Yankees on a summer weekend.
All you are proving is that, as with the WNBA, no one wants to see a shit show wrapped up in a MLB package.
Bad sports is bad sports. In pro basketball the NBA billions heavily subsidize the WNBA. In MLB the Yankees and Dodgers subsidize the Oakland As.
The Yankees don’t come to town often, and neither do the Fever. Any monetary surge is very brief and only benefits the scalpers.
Caitlin Clark has skills, sure, but the US womens soccer team still lost to a high school boys team.
In Iran, there is refusal to admit that the IDF is responsible for stuff blowing up last night.
Because the IDF was not involved, there is no reason to hit back at Israel.

There is only gender identity, sexual orientation, and sex “characteristics” which are not the same as biological sex. They are playing games with language. And smuggling in lies.

And with regard to a presidential election that something is 270 EVs, which is 38 more than Trump won. So in theory RFK, Jr. gets him 16.
Only 22 more to go assuming nothing changes over the next six months, such as criminal conviction on more than 30 felonies, more criminal trials, more nodding off and drooling at defense tables, one or two jail stays for contempt, and another bankruptcy. And all that is without even having a campaign.
Village
Idiot
47
Elijah Dominic McFuckheadspews:
About having a campaign.
Biden isn’t McSame waking up the morning of the convention dead broke and having to throw a Hail Mary with his VP pick and abandon every other swing state campaign strategy because there’s no money left.
Biden is in the very enviable position as incumbent that he gets to use the office he holds to campaign in the six states (and more), and he has enough campaign and PAC money to fund lots of different strategies.
Based on polling data I’m seeing so far, RFK, Jr. is crapping out as a spoiler, taking just about equally from each candidate, as the poll sniffing Village Idiot’s FOX poll shows. But Julie Chavez Rodriguez is still going to address it as a potential vulnerability. From the official campaign side that means recruiting prominent Kennedy family members to stand in front of the press corp with the President at the White House and to travel to swing states to denounce RFK, Jr. Outside of the campaign it means independent expenditure groups running targeted messaging in swing states introducing swing voters to the real RFK, Jr. – that is an absurdly unaccomplished, elitist dilettente who has built a career out of trading on his family name to swindle gullible fools.
And that’s going to become a big defining difference between the two campaigns this summer. Biden has mountains of cash and armies of paid and volunteer staff able to deploy multiple simultaneous strategies and respond dynamically to events as they unfold. And starting from a 74 EV advantage over the the 2020 LOSER, as many alternate pathways to victory as there are battleground states.
Trump is going broke at every turn and has at best only two potential pathways to 270. And one of those two pathways relies on the exploding popularity of a profoundly arrogant, soaringly vain con artist who oddly enough is not named Trump. It is by definition a self limiting, self canceling strategy.

Elijah Dominic McFuckheadspews:
“Trump’s political operation said Thursday that it plans to deploy more than 100,000 attorneys and volunteers across battleground states to monitor — and potentially challenge — vote counting in November.”
Now of course the number is absolute bullshit with respect to attorneys. Trump can’t even find qualified attorneys to keep him out of jail. He’s being sued by nearly every firm that has ever signed a representation agreement with him. And every single one of the “top lawyers” who backed his delusional Stop The Steal con four years ago has been disbarred and/or indicted.
No doubt there will be a few weirdos with bar cards who volunteer for this theater of criminality. But most are going to be retired Proud Boys recently paroled and another tedious round of failed influencers with a mountain of credit card debt and a dream.
So the simple solution this time around is to arrest their asses immediately. The very minute some MAGAturd clown starts waiving paper and chanting Sov Cit garbage about gold fringed flags within sight of a polling place straight to jail.
That’s a lot more conventional than it may sound. Straight to jail is the bog standard, conventional police response to mass civil disobedience that threatens normal civic life and public process. Things like “kettling”, mass arrest via Xerox machine, or hosing down journalists with chemical agents for “not paying attention” may be lacking in due process protections. But they are what EVERY real civil rights demonstrator faces whenever they step out the door. No reason why these assholes shouldn’t face the same thing.

@51 “Boomers cashing out their houses for outrageous prices.”
The problem, or part of it, as I understand it, is that boomers aren’t cashing out their homes; they’re staying put, and that’s contributing to a dearth of listings.
For good reasons, which include: (1) capital gains tax on the proceeds, (2) lack of homes to move to, and (3) no cost savings from doing so.
Plus, moving is difficult, complicated, expensive, and a hassle; and many of us have customized our homes to our wants and needs, and if we moved we’d have to start over with that.
Also, we don’t want to give up our single-family residences where we have yards, gardens, and separation from neighbors for apartment or group living. We got our fill of that in our college dormitory and young-starting-out days.

68
Roger Rabbitspews:
I don’t rant often, but here goes. There’s a concept called private property. My burrow is mine. Worked for, paid for, lived in, and improved with much sweat (not to mention money spent). So not only dollar equity, but also sweat equity, i.e. the hard work put into improving it. It’s mine, and I have no obligation, none whatsoever, to hand it over to someone else. I have no use for the million dollars or so I could get for it, as I already have a seven-figure nest egg apart from my home equity. Of course I get requests to sell my burrow frequently, which immediately go straight into the paper shredder. As for the idea that someone would demand I sell my burrow is, well, that grates on me, as I’m sure it does on any homeowner. The essential thing to understand is it’s mine, and what’s mine isn’t yours or theirs. Mine. Worked for, earned, deserved, and held close; and also my one little patch of dirt in this big wide world that I can fence off and keep to myself. Mine, got that? Is there any part of mine that anyone doesn’t understand? Demanding my home is like asking to fuck my wife. It won’t be well received. So what’s all this noise about boomers sitting on their homes? Why shouldn’t we? We have every right to; and as long as private property exists in this country, no one has any right to someone else’s home.
69
Roger Rabbitspews:
@53 First of all, it’s reassuring to see that the liberal Ninth Circuit is still enforcing constitutional rights against police encroachment, whatever the jurisprudence may be elsewhere.
The police had a duty to protect Meinecke and arrest the people who assaulted him, not tell him to “move along.” This is elementary First Amendment stuff. Police often have trouble understanding it.
It’s not a question of whether we agree or disagree with him. That’s irrelevant. The rules are the same for all sides and everyone, and apply equally to all sides and everyone. (Something Trump has yet to learn, but is in the process of learning.)
Hey Dumbfuck, now try Jesse Hagopian again. I know it really sticks in your craw that the rules are the same for him, too, because you made that clear in your past posts. Care to revise those past comments?
@59 It is to be hoped, and I would hope, that Trump and his campaign deploy attorneys instead of armed goons to monitor polling places.
Most will want to keep their licenses to practice law, so won’t engage in acts of interference or violence. Attorney pollwatchers is exactly what you want. On both sides, but especially on their side.
71
Roger Rabbitspews:
@63 “As does the Democrat party, lately each and every time.”
Bullshit.
The violent mob that overran a Florida elections office in 2000 was an organized bused-in group of Republicans. The violent mob pounding on windows and chanting “stop the count!” in a Detroit elections office in 2020 were Republicans. The violent mob outside Maricopa County’s elections office in 2020 were Republicans. All the people threatening election workers are Republicans. The people who broke into voting machines are all Republicans. Come up with an example of Democrats behaving this way to prove your point. If you can’t, you don’t have a point.
72
Roger Rabbitspews:
@67 Any boomer in Seattle who’s owned the same house for 30 years or more almost certainly has more than a $500K gain and would owe capital gains tax. 73

Go to the Cinemark theater in Plano, Texas, and pay $8.80 for a 24-ounce beer at the concession stand. (I didn’t know movie theaters sold beer, but I guess they do in Texas.) Except it isn’t 24 ounces, it’s 22 ounces even though the cup says 24 ounces, which is an additional hidden 8.33% price increase.
Businesses aren’t just using inflation as a bullshit excuse to jack up prices to fatten their profits. They’re also cheating their customers to jack up profits even more. That thumb on the beer tap is another 8.33% of pure profit, which is equal to more than 2 years of current inflation.
By now, it’s well known that countless businesses are using inflation as a cover for huge profit increases. The best way for consumers to protect themselves is to refuse to buy and walk away.

One woman miscarried in the lobby restroom of a Texas emergency room as front desk staff refused to check her in. Another woman learned that her fetus had no heartbeat at a Florida hospital, the day after a security guard turned her away from the facility. And in North Carolina, a woman gave birth in a car after an emergency room couldn’t offer an ultrasound. The baby later died.
Complaints that pregnant women were turned away from U.S. emergency rooms spiked in 2022 after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade.

It wasn’t close.
The United Auto Workers union claimed victory in a closely watched election to represent 4,300 hourly workers at Volkswagen’s plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee late Friday night, a major breakthrough in its effort to organize workers at non-union auto plants nationwide … the UAW said the 73% of the votes counted so far in favor of the union meant that it was assured of victory.
Tesla will unionize, too, cutting further into profit margins as Elon keeps lowering prices to stay competitive. And with a P/E already in the 30s, there’s only one direction for TSLA stock to go: down.
@73 I don’t want to rent a townhouse in Cantabria, Zadar, Zihuatanejo, or Normandy. I don’t know anybody in those places. I also don’t know the local customs, laws, culture, and languages there. I can’t even be sure I won’t be shot at in a couple of those places. And it costs way less than $3,500 a month to inhabit my Seattle burrow, which has a private gym, a backyard with a garden, a workshop and storage shed, extra dugouts for visiting relatives, and is close to shopping, parks, and libraries full of English-language books. With everything I want right here, why go continent-hopping? I wouldn’t even get to keep all of the $3500 a month because it would kick me into a higher tax bracket.
What I’m trying to do in this thread is explain why boomers are hanging onto their homes. And why it’s not reasonable for anyone to get upset with them for doing it.
82
Roger Rabbitspews:
And if I go into assisted living or stiff with rigor mortis, my burrow won’t go on the market anyway. My offspring will move into it. Like many of their generations, they don’t have burrows of their own, so if they inherit one, why would they sell it when they can live in it and stop paying rent?
83
Elijah Dominic McFuckheadspews:
And it costs way less than $3,500 a month to inhabit my Seattle burrow
That isn’t true. Correctly calculating the opportunity cost of holding an asset you refuse to sell entails zeroing out the capital appreciation. It’s a hard thing to do, psychologically. But invested differently that one million dollars can produce a steady income. It’s fine if you don’t want that income. It’s a good choice to have. But it’s a choice. A lot of people, not just Boomers, don’t seem to realize that they are making that choice.

All the other investment failures – parts availability, painfully slow and sparse service center network, fit and finish, safety – become fatal to the brand the minute it stops being “first in class”, “innovative”, and “brag-worthy”.

If you want to go see the Mariners this weekend in Colorado there are $9 seats on Stub Hub for tonight.

And all that is without even having a campaign.

Idiot
Elijah Dominic McFuckhead spews:

Now of course the number is absolute bullshit with respect to attorneys. Trump can’t even find qualified attorneys to keep him out of jail. @51 “Boomers cashing out their houses for outrageous prices.”
The problem, or part of it, as I understand it, is that boomers aren’t cashing out their homes; they’re staying put, and that’s contributing to a dearth of listings.
For good reasons, which include: (1) capital gains tax on the proceeds, (2) lack of homes to move to, and (3) no cost savings from doing so.
https://www.cnn.com/2024/01/29/economy/why-boomers-are-not-moving-out-of-their-big-homes/index.html

Roger Rabbit spews:
And if I go into assisted living or stiff with rigor mortis, my burrow won’t go on the market anyway. My offspring will move into it. Like many of their generations, they don’t have burrows of their own, so if they inherit one, why would they sell it when they can live in it and stop paying rent?
Elijah Dominic McFuckhead spews:
That isn’t true. Correctly calculating the opportunity cost of holding an asset you refuse to sell entails zeroing out the capital appreciation. It’s a hard thing to do, psychologically. But invested differently that one million dollars can produce a steady income. It’s fine if you don’t want that income. It’s a good choice to have. But it’s a choice. A lot of people, not just Boomers, don’t seem to realize that they are making that choice.
Politically Incorrect spews:
@68 – Absolutely correct! Private property is SACRED! And so is free market capitalism.
