Friday Open Thread

by Carl Ballard — Friday, 3/29/24, 2:31 pm

Late, but still ahead of the Multimedia Extravaganza.

– The misconduct by the Portland Police is really astounding.

– Republicans will conspiracy theory anything.

– Fuck Idaho racists, but thank goodness for the people who cover them.

– Anyway, please wash your hands right now and get vaccinated or boosted if you’re eligible.

Broke Don the Rapist is a failure.

That’s why he isn’t running on his record. Just like he didn’t run on his record in 2020. He presided over the most unsuccessful presidential term in American history. He failed at everything. And just like with all his previous failures he left America holding a bag of crap.

But I was happy and sincerely honored to be elected to clean up and recycle that bag of crap. That’s why I ran. That’s why I entered public service as the youngest American ever to be elected to the United States Senate.

To get the job done. 👍

Trump, an inhabitant of Florida, apparently is considering Rep. Byron Donalds, also an inhabitant of Florida, as a running mate.

The 12th Amendment doesn’t forbid a president and vice president from the same state, but it requires electors to vote for at least one candidate from a different state than theirs, meaning either Trump or Donalds would need to change their state residency in order to collect electoral votes from Florida. If Donalds changed his residency, he would need to resign from Congress

… vacating another GOP house seat.

    https://www.cnn.com/2024/03/29/politics/kfile-byron-donalds-trump-criticisms/index.html

    And …

Suppose that the election was close enough that [Florida] would swing it. The Republican presidential candidate would have an absolute majority of the electoral votes, and thus win the election, but no VP candidate would have a majority. The VP would then be elected by the Senate. If the (newly-elected) Senate were controlled by Democrats, we’d end up with a President and Vice-President from different parties …. To avoid this scenario (and for other ‘balancing the ticket’ reasons), presidential candidates never nominate VP candidates from their own states.

Except Trump would. Suppose he does. And Florida’s electoral votes swing the election, and Democrats keep the Senate, and you end up with President Trump and Vice President Harris.

    Tooooo funny!!!
