Humanity owes much to journalists and photographers who risk their lives to inform the rest of us about the realities of war, thereby stripping from battle the false patina of glory that politicians wrap around the deliberate mass killing of human beings.
The response of the Bush Pentagon to these brave men and women was to kill as many journalists in Iraq as they could.
In 2005, The Nation published an article titled “Shooting the Messenger” cataloging numerous instances of U.S. troops targeting — and killing — journalists.

Yes, we won the election, but before you start feeling charitable toward our defeated Republican opponents, remember who cheered the killings of these journalists, the torturing of innocent Iraq civilians at Abu Ghraib, and the atrocities committed by U.S. soldiers in Iraq — and labeled as “traitors” anyone who criticized the perpetrators of these crimes. Kicking the criminal gang known as the GOP out of power was an important step toward rehabilitating our country, but we have yet to deal with these neo-Nazi fucks at the individual level.
No amnesty! No forgiveness! No forgetting! That would be just as criminal as pretending the Holocaust never occurred.

To truly know war is not something I would wish on any human being. Most of us are only acquainted with its horrors. Mr. Ware truly knows and, it occurs to me, is lost when it comes to understanding what to do with this knowledge.
I salute his perseverance, I honor his work and service, I wish him well in his search for the answer and I hope that it eludes him not one moment longer.
