One has to wonder if The Even Bigger Fucking Moron has any idea at all that 61% of the electricity in the US is produced from the consumption of fossil fuels, and so the substantial majority of that subsidy is NOT used on ICE vehicles.
One has to wonder if The Even Bigger Fucking Moron has any idea that there will be a dramatic increase in EV subsidy in future years as a result of the passage of the so-called Inflation Reduction Act, for which YLB’s fucked kids will pay their entire working lives.

A dealer network struggling to obtain the monthly inventories needed to make their plans welcomes this news.
These are mostly locally owned businesses, with investors and bankers from your communities who employ hundreds of your neighbors, donate to local charities, sponsor youth sports, buy the ads that support your favorite professional sport ball teams, etc. Affiliate new car dealerships have formed the backbones of local economies in American towns and cities for a century. And it’s been a very tough couple of years for them.
This is good news. A major American manufacturer, focusing its new production in the historic heartland of the American auto industry, has developed a new vehicle model that is outstripping all hopes for success and popularity. Seventy five percent of preorders are from buyers who are new to the brand. To build on that incredible success and to sustain it into the future requires a robust dealer network. And the price support Ford extends to its dealership network in turn redounds to the communities those dealerships support.
It’s truly a shame that Republicans, who once upon a time not only understood how these business relationships worked, but also celebrated them, can now think only about grievances, their own poor decision making, and which police officer to throw the fire extinguisher at.

Elijah Dominic McDotcom spews:
In the beautiful Biden Spring of 2021, as the vaccines began pouring forth and hope for the future finally returned, we all began to notice something and discuss it here on HA.
Republicans become suddenly very skeptical about medicine, vaccines, the CDC, doctors, nurses, and just science in general.
It was everywhere and it very quickly came to be a defining characteristic that could very closely track political ideology. While it was patently obvious that a great many of the Republicans spouting this nonsense were nonetheless getting vaccinated as fast as they possibly could, even those who were vaccinated pretended to the skepticism. Even one of our trolls got on the bandwagon, fabricating fantastic false tales about expired vaccine batches. It came to be a talisman representing Republicanism.
But unfortunately not all Republicans were sophisticated enough to parse the fine line between voicing skepticism to “own the libs” and truly doubting and even coming to fear medicine. We all speculated about what the effects of this might be. That a self-selecting population, organized around political ideology, who deliberately deprived themselves of effective protection against a deadly pandemic disease, and who because of that shared political ideology sorted themselves and gathered unprotected in groups, would stand to suffer a massive increase in excess mortality.
Well, the speculation was entirely correct:
https://www.govexec.com/workforce/2022/11/more-republicans-died-democrats-after-covid-19-vaccines-came-out/380245/
https://www.nber.org/system/files/working_papers/w30512/w30512.pdf
Post- vaccines, the excess death rate gap between Republicans and Democrats widened from 1.6 pp (22% of the Democrat excess death rate) to 10.4 pp (153% of the Democrat excess death rate). The gap in excess death rates between Republicans and Democrats is concentrated in counties with low vaccination rates and only materializes after vaccines became widely available.
And sadly these effects don’t stop at excess deaths. This difference means that many more Republicans went broke, lost their jobs, were forced to sell their homes, move in with relatives, because they got sick and needed treatment after most insurers had stopped waiving cost sharing for treatment. Probably many of the excess deaths occurred because these people could not afford to seek treatment.
It’s really a massive pile of dead bodies, grief, and misery all laid squarely at the feet of “owning the libs”. A truly tragic #owngoal of monstrous proportions that leading Republicans took part in. And many still do. Fat Midget, for instance.

30, and Carl,
I can enthusiastically recommend Mastodon.
On phone app it looks and feels more or less like Twitter.
On web the interface is a little less busy than Twitter, and no ads, etc. There’s probably a bunch I’m still figuring out about how to set up preferences for the feeds and interface. But I’m plenty happy with it.
It’s been about a month since I opened an account. And one of the first big challenges is finding the other accounts you’d like to follow. That’s been changing very rapidly as huge numbers of very interesting users from media, academia, various professions and industries have been migrating over and beginning to post more.
The one big difference to understand and appreciate about Mastodon is that it is not really a single server hosting all the content, user profiles, and accounts. Mastodon is based on an interoperability protocol comparable to email protocols. So while there may be lots of different email clients running on lots of different types of devices, and being moved around to all kinds of servers, networks and “mail boxes”, anyone can send mail to anyone. Mastodon runs on lots of servers called “instances”. Terminology isn’t important. What is important is that it all exchanges seamlessly across all the “instances”, users, networks, and devices. And since no one person, organization, or company “owns” the servers, nobody can impose their own arbitrary and petty conditions on everyone else.
Something that will probably become very significant going forward is that any individual, organization, company, or institution can also implement their own server (“instance”) with whatever peculiar features, terms of service, and limitations they like, within the requirements of the protocol. There could therefor conceivably be a “Nazi” instance that allowed and even welcomed Andrew Anglin, Nick Fuentes, and the rest of the GOP. But other instances could, at their option, limit or exclude content from accounts on that “Nazi” instance.
I suspect that in the future, and owing at least in part to the recent experience with Twitter, many companies, professional organizations, social and cultural institutions, and even government agencies will choose to implement their own Mastodon instances and thereby gain control over content and how the accounts they host interact with accounts and content hosted on other instances. But I don’t think that’s likely to happen right away. Being the “owner” of an instance would open a company or government agency up to being held to account for how that instance moderates content – both the content that originates on the company instances as well as content that is allowed to interact. Privately owned social media providers like Twitter, Meta, and Tik Tok give corporations some plausible deniability. So I don’t expect to see Coca Cola rushing to own accountability right away. They’ll want to watch and see for a while, I think.

“Portrait of a desperate man. A man perhaps like all men.
A man with a career that satisfies and nurtures him. Successful in most things but not in the one effort that all men try at some time in their lives—trying to go home again. And also like all men, perhaps there’ll be an occasion, maybe a summer night sometime, when he’ll look up from what he’s doing and listen to the distant music of a calliope, and hear the voices and the laughter of the people and the places of his past. And perhaps across his mind there’ll flit a little errant wish, that a man might indeed go home again. But not this man. And not this summer night.
His electric car won’t start. The battery is full. It recognizes him as the owner. But it remains as mute and indifferent to him and his yearning as if he were a ghost. And perhaps he may be.
For last week he posted Tweets that mocked a billionaire.
And this morning, somewhere far, far away, buried in a complex labyrinth of tunnels beneath an East Texas desert, at the behest of that nameless billionaire, a switch has been flipped. It’s a switch that determines truth and falsehood, good and evil, light and dark, and maybe even life and death. For this switch controls the division between the stable comfort of routine expectation, and they yawning chasm of uncertainty we call the Twilight Zone.”

The Twitter user who set up the community discussion of journalism account bans on Twitter Spaces that Elmo logged into and lost his shit has now been banned.
Elmo can go ahead and make up whatever the fuck rules he likes. It’s his deal. And obviously part of the intent of all this banning of users going on right now is to chill a certain kind of expression. And no, it can’t be credibly claimed that this is “protective”.
The Twitter Spaces debate last night was focused on understanding Twitter’s rationale for the bans. Twitter reps and Elmo Stans insisted that it was about “safety” but they could not explain the bans on those terms without admitting that, arbitrarily it would seem, they continue to support user accounts who violate the same policy in the same way. Nor did the user who organized the community discussion violate any such policy at any time.
For years Elmo has argued that efforts at “harm reduction” in social media are contrary to his principles, to “freedom of speech”, and are “leftist woke-mind authoritarianism”. But here he is precisely citing “harm reduction” to justify perma-bans AND doing it selectively and arbitrarily to serve his political and reputational interests.
Elmo certainly is worried about “harm”. But it aint about stalkers. It’s about “harm” to his pweshus reputation as a “genius”.
