Canadians are not amused, and their government is rightly demanding an apology.
In the five-minute segment broadcast last week, Gutfeld mocked the Canadian Forces, noting Lt.-Gen. Andrew Leslie’s recent comment that the military may need a year to recover after Canada’s mission in Afghanistan ends in 2011.
“Meaning, the Canadian military wants to take a breather to do some yoga, paint landscapes, run on the beach in gorgeous white Capri pants,” Gutfeld said.
“I didn’t even know they were in the war,” panellist and comedian Doug Benson added. “I thought that’s where you go if you don’t want to fight. Go chill in Canada.”
The panellists continued by joking about invading Canada and also poking fun at the RCMP.
Canadian soldiers, who have been fighting in Afghanistan since 2001, have spent the last four years in the country’s most violent regions. On Friday, military officials announced that four more Canadian soldiers were killed and eight others were wounded in two separate roadside bomb blasts outside Kandahar, in southern Afghanistan.
Way to keep it classy, Fox, I’m sure the families of Canadian soldiers who gave the last full measure of devotion to their country really appreciate that.
As I always state, Fox has a First Amendment right to put very nearly anything it wants on the air, but that doesn’t mean they must put complete morons on the air, although it does seem to suit their target demographic.
And what is it with right wingers who insist on denigrating our allies? Shouldn’t we insult our enemies when there are two wars going on? Osama bin Laden smells like a goat! See, it’s easy.
I honestly don’t get it. Nobody with common sense believes Fox about anything, so it’s just there to attack things the conservative tribe doesn’t like, like a bunch of middle school kids who’ve been given the keys to a cable network and been told “make fun of the nerds.” Our tribe our tribe our tribe! You’d think people would get tired of the sheer repetition and servile drum-banging.

I subscribe to a few Canadian Podcasts(out of curiosity), and Global Edmonton carried the story Saturday, and reminded viewers that the show was usually on in the middle of the night, so maybe nobody watched it. They also mentioned that this happened as 4 Canadian Soldiers were killed in action due to IEDs. This in the middle of combating a Taleban offensive in Afghanistan, which the action is Canada’s largest Combat Action since Korea. Prime Minister Harper seems to be trying to do it all with the Canadian Military, continuing the mission in Afghanistan, while upgrading the Canadian Forces equipment needs, including airlift. The C-130s they used, were built in the 1960s, and they have bought some C-17s, in addition to more C-130s.
Also, there were 40 airliners over the Atlantic when US Airspace closed due to the 9/11 attacks. Canada took them in, mostly at Gander, Newfoundland.(They had a big runway and plenty of space to park the jets).
As for FOX News, what a way to return this favor one Canadian Radio Commentator did when America needed in 1973. Then again, this host was probably too young to remember it.

“Snubbed England”? Hardly, from what I saw the only “snubbing” occurred in the minds of British tabloid writers and US political opponents of the President.
Diplomatic gifts are largely symbolic anyway. In many cases they have to be turned over to the respective governments immediately. Perhaps the gift to PM Brown was something he could actually get some personal enjoyment out of?
Besides it isn’t like this is the first time one country might have flubbed a diplomatic gift to another. Most of the time everyone smiles and shakes hands, then moves on.

Most informed American (few in number) wonder why they are so disliked by the rest of the world. After watching the most ignorant conceited people I ever witnessed, referring to the Fox News panel, especially Gutfeld on You Tube of The Red Eye show, who in their right mind would stay up till 3am. It’s hard to believe they have an average audience of 285,000, but since their American’s unemployed rate has sky rocketed I guess they really don’t have to worry about getting up for work.

Well, it goes both ways partner. For example, I sometimes watch CBC’s ten o’clock news. It’s on channel 99 on my cable system. There’s a lot of snarky criticism of the US and Americans in the Canadian media and certainly an air of superiority from CBC news people. Also, “This Hour Has 22 Minutes” lays into America fairly well, you have to admit. Plus the Canadian Air Farce isn’t very gracious towards America. Donald Sutherland, one of your home-grown celebrities, railed against America and Americans in an interview he gave to a European news outfit. I caught that one channel-surfing one evening. It made me think that I don’t have to support Donald Sutherland by seeing his movies or watching his TV shows if he hates America so much. When he gives back all the income he has made from American movies and television, then I’ll take him seriously.
So, if you’re a little pissed about some dip shit thing on Fox News, fall back on your British heritage and keep a stiff upper lip. It might also be a good idea to take a look at how your media has such a good time criticizing America and Americans. What goes aroung comes around, ace!

What I am amazed by, is the way Canadians honor the fallen soldiers as they arrive at CFB Trenton, lining the highway as the hearses head to Toronto, along Ontario 401, the Highway of Heroes. I wished that the past few years, Americans had been allowed just the chance to do the same for fallen soldiers. Maybe thousands of people lining the highway will keep Rev.Phelps’s protesters at bay.

Also insulted by the same FOX Panel were the RCMP. I was watching a VODCAST of Global National, and the anchor led off a story about 4 Oakland, California officers murdered in the line of duty this weekend, was eerily reminscent of the murder of 4 RCMP officers serving a drug warrant.(The similarity was in both cases, it was the same gunman killed them, and both cases, the gunman were killed).
Also, I doubt the RCMP officers wear their ceremonial uniforms in the field, all the time.

This is not simply an isolated incident; it’s what Fox News (sic) does. Just in the last week, they “creatively” edited Joe Biden’s comments from months ago to appear as though he said them last week; Sean Hannity has been caught in multiple lies (I know, I know); Bill O’Reilly had his producer stalk, harrass, and lie about a blogger at Think Progress, violating O’Reilly’s stated policy of inviting people on the show to respond before sending out his Stuttering John of producer, all because TP had pointed out that O’Reilly blames rape victims for getting raped; and now the Senior VP for Programming describes Fox as “the voice of opposition” to Democrats in power.

Even though Canadian Forces may never have gone to Iraq, there were a few doing exchange duty with our Armed Forces ended up in Iraq, and there was controversy about some of their pilots, who were learning how to operate the C-17 Globemaster, flying a few missions with the USAF, that ended up in Iraq.
Also, Canada has participated in possibly the longest joint mission in American and Canadian History, North American Aerospace Defense Command. It continues to adapt to new global realities.
Last year, I saw a documentary on the History Channel about a SINKEX exercise where the US Navy and Canadian Air and Maritime Commands(the modern incarnations of the Royal Canadian Air Force and Royal Canadian Navy, under the joint-force system that is the Canadian Forces) participated. The ship they were sinking, were the retired HMCS Huron, a Tribal-Class Destroyer. It was an interesting excercise, getting some target practice, while having a ship that gave so much service retired in an honorable way(instead of tearing it apart with the scrappers torch). The camera crew was talking with the crew of the HMCS Algonquin, the Huron’s sister ship, about an irony, when they got their turn at it, they were going to be sinking the Huron, with the Huron’s own gun, that had been installed during a refit on the Algonquin. A couple American ships including a replenishment ship, a DDG, a Frigate, and a SSN, were a part of the exercise.

They are imperfect, to put it mildly, but they at least make an effort to be actual news networks. CNN is the best of the group, but that’s damning with exceptionally faint praise.
On the other hand, Rachel Maddow’s show is excellent, easily the best on cable news. She’s scrupulously honest, smart as a whip, and respects her audience and her guests. It’s the only show I make it a point to watch regularly. Most of the rest? Meh.

Our Canadian guys and the Americans are in it together in Afghanistan -our sniper teams have set world records for kill shots (2.5km) , JTF2 – our special forces have been very active there- – – and a brigade of troops takes it to the Taliban every bloody day – four of our dead heroes just came back yesterday from Kamadahar. We Canadians and the Americans have been on the same side since 1812-14 and it’s been a good fit. Ask the Germans who stood in front of the Devil’s Brigade (Can-Am commando unit in Italy) or the SS divisions the Canucks decimated in Normandy (Actually , don’t bother – the few original survivors are now probably KAPUT !
I personally have been in favour of the presence of our Canadian brigade in Afghanistan in support of America’s fight there. Like many Canadians , I feel that Canada is obligated to stand with our American friends when they are threatened. And I know that intelligent , informed , decent Americans appreciate the presence of a militarily very talented northern ally. All the best to Canadian and American troops as they destroy the enemy !

CNN has made the same mistakes as FOX news in it’s advocacy…Making things up, lying etc.
I’m not sure I understand what you’re saying. First, do you make a distinction between news reporting and advocacy/analysis? And, if the answer to that is “yes,” can you cite instances of CNN “Making things up, lying etc.” in their news reporting?

You’re, essentially, saying that there’s no difference between CNN and Fox News. By that, ought I conclude that you see no difference between CNN not reporting on some instances of torture under Saddam Hussein and Fox News, say, deliberately taking Vice President Biden’s comments out of context and misrepresenting when those remarks had been made?

Our vets,They are mistreated and direspected day in day out,
Alot of them homeless.Every once in a while they get thrown a bone,Like dogs under the table. Get over it Canada.
This continent you live on has to protected too.There is no credit for the Soldier,Except for the freedom we have left. Most don’t appreciate those simple things.

BTW i am very active in veteran recovery,and sheltering maybe we all should take more pride in the freedom they have put life and limb at risk for.
