While the rest of the media focuses on the allegedly close race between incumbent Supreme Court Justice Richard Sanders and sane challenger Charlie Wiggins (as predicted, Wiggins took his first lead today, on his way to a 10,000-plus vote victory), there really is only one true tossup race listed on the Secretary of State’s website: the 61-vote spread between Democratic incumbent State Rep. Dawn Morrell, and girl-scout-hating challenger Hans Zeiger in LD-25. And while returns have trended Democratic throughout much of the state this past week, Zeiger has closed the gap for the second day in a row.
There’s maybe about 550 ballots left to count in LD-25, and Zeiger would have to win 55.5% of that to pull into the lead, which shouldn’t be likely. But it’s such a small sample of votes left that anything can happen. Either way, this one is almost certainly heading into hand recount territory.
Fortunately, Democrats tend to pick up votes in hand recounts due to the demographic extremes we represent: the poorest, the oldest, the newest, the least educated and the best educated voters… four out of five of which tend to have more problems filling out ballots than your average voter. But, I’d rather not have to put that thesis to the test.

Who votes for Zieger beyond puppy-barbecuers? Really, how does this happen? And, we’re talking Pierce County, not Stevens County. Unbelievable.

Idiots. Faux “News” watchers.

He’s a “thoughtful young man!” Never mind that his thoughts are full of CrAzY. I guess the fact that he has lots of thoughts them makes him qualified. You see a lot of his signs in poorer, more rural*, sections of his district.
*The handful that haven’t been eaten by sprawl. It’s ironic that Dawn Morrell has worked to preserve rural places and help those folks out and they’re voting her out.
Morrell’s up by 61 votes.

41st LD Senate seat: 53,512 votes counted. 56,416 votes cast. Gordon is down 554 votes, with 2904 ballots remaining, assuming no more ballots show up. That means Randy would have to get 1679 of the remaining 2904, which is 57.82%. Not probable, but not out of the question, either!
I’m looking forward to a hand recount in this race!
Stephen Miller spews:
You can contact the campaigns of Gordon, Gregory, and Morrell to help “chase” ballots. This means you help contact the voters whose ballot was thrown out (not counted) due to problems like unclear signature, etc.. Often this voter is grateful for the chance to fix the problem and have their vote count. Very rewarding work!
Roger Rabbit spews:
@5 That’s how Gregoire won in 2004. She got about 700 valid votes from 1,100 signature cards and her final margin was 129.
sarge spews:
Gordon is closing! He is now down only 336 votes with 3065 uncounted ballots. That’s 55.5% of the remaining 3065 for a win! Since yesterday, the uncounted ballots went up from 2904 to 3065, and the margin went down from 554 to 336. Things are looking up for Gordon. Hope they find more boxes of uncounted ballots! Where’s Dean Logan when you need him?
Gen spews:
It makes me wonder where Morrell would be in the count if Zeiger’s family hadn’t used their connections to plant him in front of classrooms full of kids, and allow the high school newspaper to run a story on him – complete with all of his political talking points in the last month. His mother, a substitute teacher- would even put up his signs in the classroom when she taught (at least until she was caught and had to take them down). Gee it’s shocking, another Republican that doesn’t care about ethics or fairness.
