The Seattle chapter of Drinking Liberally meets tonight, as it does every Tuesday… but don’t stop by the Montlake Alehouse, because we won’t be there. Instead, we’ll be grabbing a couple of beers with author Chris Mooney, after his appearance tonight at Town Hall.
Mooney, a staff writer for The American Prospect, will be talking about his new book, “The Republican War on Science,” as part of Foolproof’s American Voices series. Show starts at 7:30 PM, Town Hall, 8th & Seneca. Tickets are $10.00.
Afterwards, Chris will be joining us for drinks, probably at Tango, Pike & Boren, around 9:30 pm. (I’ll post an update if the location changes.) I suggest you come for the lecture, and then look for folks with a Drinking Liberally lapel button or sign.
As my regular readers know, this is subject close to my heart, so I hope to see you there.

HIs interview on the Daily Show was rather compelling. He is articulate and erudite, something i am sure that will get easily lost on those who would rather sling insults and unsubstantiated conjecture as a means of expressing their desperate political agenda on the progressives and liberals.
btw, Mooney also criticizes Democrats in his book for their baiting and switching politics with science; it is just that this current administration seems bent and twisted on removing all rational inquiry and research from public use.

Well, with Bush’s record of appointments, I should hope the Senate gives Roberts or any of the Presidents choices a very thorough look. That said, Roberts definitely deserves to be allowed to answer the questions without being interrupted. He may end up being a fine Chief Justice, but we deserve to know just what he’s all about.

You need to understand that towards the end of the war the protestors blamed the soldiers for not refusing to fight. They were, for the most part, immature college students and professors who were very upset that adults did not fall for their campaign of name-calling and disrespectful protest. Sound familiar?

Evolution is theory that has many aspects verified, yet many more either not verified or explained away without reasonable basis. No debate is complete without a second side.
The stem cell debate is not about possible benefits for humans that may result in benefits. Like abortion, the first debate regarding embryonic cells must first resolve whether the unborn child is a person or not. If it is a person and we kill it to experiment, then we might as well experiment on toddlers, teens and adults the same way.

I was one of those Vietnam protestors, and I can assure you that we were not against the soldiers. On the contrary, we were trying to get them home alive. I know many veterans of the Vietnam War and they felt the same way. They were smoking pot and fragging their superiors. One of the reasons the war ended was that the soldiers started rebelling against it themselves.
I’ve heard that in her confirmation hearings, Ginsberg was more forthright with her viewpoint than Mr Roberts has been so far. So far, Mr Roberts is playing dodgeball, or more like a friendly game of catchball, but he just lets the ball drop.
Sounds like Roberts is irresponsible and unaccountable – like George’s squeamish and meaningless accepting responsibiilty for the tragedy of Katrina’s aftermath. Publically accepting responsibility was a PR move and nothing more.
Look. The Bush Administration is hurting everyone, Left/Right, rich/poor, everone and everything. Any Bush loyalist who won’t admit this is anti-American. George Bush is the next you-know-who.
