The Seattle chapter of Drinking Liberally meets tonight (and every Tuesday), 8PM at the Montlake Ale House, 2307 24th Avenue E. I’m hoping Patrick comes back so he can give a full report on what a “Mike McGavick Drunk” hangover feels like.
Today is Primary Election Day in Washington State, and we’ll be closely following the results all night long… as will, I’m guessing, 43rd LD candidate Bill Sherman, who has chosen the Alehouse as the location of his “Victory” party. If there’s only two victory parties you attend tonight, you’ll definitely want to visit Bill’s second.
Not in Seattle? Washington liberals will also be drinking tonight in the Tri-Cities. Here’s a full run down of WA’s ten Drinking Liberally chapters:

Wal-Mart, the nation’s largest employer, is planning to launch a voter registration and education campaign this fall targeted at its 1.3 million employees in an effort to combat growing criticism from Democrats and labor unions. [There are more HAPPY Wal-Mart shoppers than there are Democrat voters! [even with the 25% Democrat voter fraud!]

Sept. 18, 2006 — Most Americans have welcomed the news that gas prices are falling, having declined an average of 42 cents nationwide in the past month.
But from the way some people are carrying on, you would think it was the sky that was falling, not gas prices.
Heading up the field is Democrat Daniel Akst, whose op-ed piece in The New York Times today lays out the case for the negative effects of lowering gas prices.
“Anything that reinforces the role of fossil fuels — particularly oil — as the world’s primary energy source, is bad, not good,” Democrat Akst writes. [……..Gas prices high: “Bush no good!” Gas prices low: “Bush no good”! [Carl Grossman]

Liberal Media Hide Left-Leaning Stance of Montreal College Shooter: Hated Animal Cruelty, Bible-Thumpers, Catholics, God, Republicans
By John-Henry Westen
MONTREAL, September 19, 2006 – A psychological profile of Kimveer Gill, the man who opened fire at Dawson College last week killing one student and seriously injuring another 19 before killing himself, would reveal a man obsessed with death, but also someone who leaned heavily to the left. However, the extensive mainstream media coverage of the tragedy fails to point out this fact, an omission which comes as no surprise to Christian pro-family leaders.
Of the over two thousand stories published on the incident in the mainstream media none mention Gill’s dislike for “Republicans”, “God”, “F***ing Religious people who think they know everything”, “Catholics”, “Homophobes”. Many of those mainstream media stories did however mention other dislikes Gill mentioned on the same page of his website such as his dislike for “jocks” and “preps”.
Brian Rushfeldt of the Canada Family Action Coalition (CFAC) was not surprised by the mainstream media omission. Rushfeldt told us that it was based either on “poor journalism, biased journalism or an effort to keep some issues out of public awareness.” Looking at the full list, said the CFAC leader, “you notice a pattern.” Rushfeldt noted, that while Gill said he dislikes Republicans, he did not mention disliking Liberals or Democrats, he listed ‘homophobes’ but not gays or homosexual activists.
On his web log on the site vampirefreaks.com Gill posted a list of “dislikes” which has since been pulled from the website. LifeSiteNews.com has retained an original copy of Gill’s website from Google’s cache. In his extensive list of dislikes Gill included:
Animal Cruelty
American Government
Anyone Who Supports The American Government
Religion
God
Capatalists (sic)
F***ing Religious People Who Think They Know Everything…..And Then They Stick It In Your Face Cuz’ They Think They Know Everything (They Don’t Understand That They’re Just A Bunch Of Little Sheep)
Catholics
Church Going A**holes
Bible Thumpping Know-It-Alls
All Priests
Republicans
Homophobes
“If we are worried about individuals who might do things like this,” said Rushfeldt we should know about them. By omitting his left-leaning stand, said Rushfeldt, “the media contributing to missing warning signs by not pointing out full facts.”

3 We’re all pleasantly aware of Bush’s oil company pals’ helping buy votes by Republicans by pushing gas prices down before the election. Similarly, the Fed is being real nicey-nicey about interest rates.
Let’s talk about this again around Christmas time.
Doctor JCH Kennedy spews:
ArtFart….Yes, “Bush’s pals” set the price of oil. Take ANY ECON in college? Any college? Bueller? Bueller? Frye? Frye? Grossman? Grossman?
GBS spews:
JCH,
Stop with your lying. Everyone knows that Bush’s failed policy in the middle east led to geopolitcal instability which triggred traders to increase the price of oil, a “fear factor” if you will.
Amazing now that we’re closer to war with Iran, traders feel there’s no threat to oil supplies in the Persian Gulf.
Hmmmmm. . . JCH, you still suck ass.
Doctor JCH Kennedy spews:
E-3 GBS, We don’t want to “triggred” those traders, do we!!!! hehe, LT JCH

This is old and boring. If you want to parse it in left-right terms, yeah, Kimveer Gill was a left-leaning nutjob. Tim McVeigh and Eric Rudolph are/were right-leaning nutjobs.
Their nutjobedness, alienation from humanity, and wanton disregard for human life dramatically overshadowed their perceived or actual political leanings. Associating something as broad as left and right with insane people is asinine. I could point at Tom Delay, then point at Tim McVeigh and say “SEE! IF TOM WAS ALLOWED TO GET AWAY WITH IT, HE’D ACT JUST LIKE TIM!!! YOU WATCH!!!!”
But that’s dumb. I don’t believe that, and neither should you. Tom is a rather ambitious man with a few boundary issues as to what is legal and proper when it comes to getting legislation passed and taking care of your own interests at the same time. If I was in a room with Tom Delay with no witnesses, I would not be concerned for my life or well-being.
If the same were true with Tim McVeigh in the room, I’d be glad I know how to shoot a pistol.
Anonymous spews:
Excuse me jsa, but notice who it was good ol’ Kimveer pointedly mentioned and those whom he pointedly didn’t mention. It speaks volumes.
The whole point of the article was not who gets to claim the nutcase flavor of the moment. The point was the the bias in the media and the neglect in giving the complete story:
Of the over two thousand stories published on the incident in the mainstream media none mention Gill’s dislike for “Republicans”, “God”, “F***ing Religious people who think they know everything”, “Catholics”, “Homophobes”. Many of those mainstream media stories did however mention other dislikes Gill mentioned on the same page of his website such as his dislike for “jocks” and “preps”.
That very same bias that screams ‘Conservative So & So’ or ‘So & So Republican from Such & Such state’ in every single sentence when one of them happen to get in trouble.
Sometimes the bias is not in what’s said, it’s in what’s NOT said.
Did that young man have serious mental problems? Absolutely.
Do the media that covered him have serious bias problems? Also, ABSOLUTELY.

I share your concerns with a biased media. You see, I am a life-long anarcho-Marxist. The fact that the media does not report stories from an anarcho-Marxist point of view indicates to me the horrible statist/capitalist bias of the so-called mainstream media. I am thankful Pacifica News exists. While they never go far enough, sometimes a little bit of reality comes out in their stories. Without them, I’d probably hurl my computer out the window in a fit of rage.
Sorry. Just pulling your chain there. I’m not much of an anarchist, nor much of a Marxist either. My point was to demonstrate that you can pick any political viewpoint you want on the spectrum and claim underrepresentation and bias. Be a gun nut, a hardcore environmentalist, a staunch Zionist, or a Palestinaian rights activist! Mix and match. Spend a week doing each of the above and bristle with offense!
I don’t even LIKE the media that much. Most of them are pretty much stupid, lazy, and prone to groupthink regardless of the slant of the particular brand of groupthink.
Leave shouting “BIAS!” to people with a vested, fiduciary interest in doing so. Unless you’re CEO of a Fortune 500 company or running for office with an (R) after your name, that’s probably not you.
And if you MUST shout bias, please leave that sick, stupid fuck in Montréal out of it, OK?
