I’m certainly no expert on Iran, but it is kind of striking that if you want to find out anything about what is going on you have to seek sources other than U.S. based news outlets. This is obviously a very serious situation that impacts not only our foreign policy but thousands of immigrants from Iran now in the U.S. And there’s nothing on the cable tee-vee because it’s the weekend.
So much for the oft-repeated axiom that “at least television covers breaking news well.”
Anyhow, you can check out this BBC story if you wish.
The BBC’s John Simpson saw secret policemen being attacked and chased away by protesters, which he says is extremely rare.
Some of the protesters in Tehran wore Mr Mousavi’s campaign colour of green and chanted “Down with the dictator”, news agencies report.
Four police motorbikes were set on fire near the interior ministry, where votes had been counted, our correspondent says.
Yes, it’s a fluid situation and this doesn’t mean there is necessarily a revolution in the offing. But three decades after the “Islamic Revolution,” a hotly contested election and apparent public outrage over the results might warrant some satellite time.
Well, you would expect coverage if there are any American correspondents anywhere in position, which I don’t imagine there are. Your liberal media in inaction. I’m not saying they should risk their lives, but you’d expect some live coverage from somewhere in the region, maybe send Rick Santelli to the UAE or something.
Rick in Kirkland spews:
NPR’s Mike Shuster has been reporting from Tehran.

Gee, you think there may be voter fraud? Dont think it happens here? Acorn is a group on the up and up?
Roger Rabbit spews:
@3 “Acorn is a group on the up and up?”
Yes. The Republican Party, however, is as corrupt and dishonest as the Iranian mullahs.
Michael spews:
Um… I’m sure at least a few of the 10,041 stories about this on Google News are from American sources.
It is sad to see how far American newspaper have cut back on foreign news desks. Maybe HA needs to hookup with a couple of ex-pat bloggers.
Michael spews:
The Boston Globe has some fantastic Iranian election photos up.

Marvin Stamn spews:
If only sarah palin wasn’t such an easy target the “liberal media” could report on real news stories.
Broadway Joe spews:
If only the rightwing media wasn’t busy propping up the Wasilla Whackjob and her brood as martyrs, maybe they could report on real news stories.
Broadway Joe spews:
Oh, I almost forgot…..
Jump Marvin, jump!
Roger Rabbit spews:
@6 Palin is a cartoon.
Michael spews:
Sarah who?
Lee spews:
@9
Exactly when did the Republicans because the party that constantly whines about politically incorrect humor?
Roger Rabbit spews:
@11 Sometime in the 1700s, around the same time the Pilgrims first set foot on Plymouth Rock.
Marvin Stamn spews:
I like it when people like you mimic me.
Shouldn’t you be practicing? Maybe if you practiced you wouldn’t need to have a day job. After all, no one ever dreams about being a courier. Musicians like you do jobs like that because as a musician you can’t pay your bills.
Tom Foss spews:
Andrew Sullivan has some good stuff up on hs Atlantic blog. And I am not a fan of his, but its very good.
This may be one of the most important moments in the middle east in many decades and our media is asleep at the wheel.
Oh, and for all you friggin trolls, it must drive you absolutely nuts to know that while many other factors are at work- technology, young educated voters with an eye to the west, people getting tired of corruption, etc- who has also struck a chord in the middle east and impacted their electoral actions? First in Lebanon, now in Iran?
Why, President Obama. The friggin troll media and their idiot ditto heads keep attacking his speech with their blind stupidity- did any of them actually study one of the most remarkable speeches in recent history?- but he has helped cast their relations with us and their hopes for their future in a new light.
This is a critical time and we need to know what is happening. I hope the media wakes up soon, before its over. I want to know whats happening before the window closes.
Broadway Joe spews:
What’s your point, Marvin? Right now I’m working in three….. no, four bands at the moment. I’m getting a new project off the ground, studying material for a group that’s replacing their drummer on the sly, and temping in two other bands. Not that I have to work all that hard. We all know each other down here, we all play pretty much the same music, so rehearsals aren’t much more than learning stops and starts, medleys, and the people up front learning a few steps. Being a drummer, the last is of no concern. My biggest issue right now is prepping my drums for MIDI triggering, which involves a hot glue gun, scissors, and a shitload of carpet padding.
My courier route allows me to have an income when none of my bands are playing, and since I use my own vehicle, the tax writeoff for my mileage is stufuckingpendous. Whether or not I pay my bills on time is of no concern to a delusional old lush like you.
(Honestly, when I think of Sheik al-Marvin, Foster Brooks comes to mind….)

I wonder how many Iranians Obama will stand by and watch die??

Bainbridge Island sewage leak way worse than first thought
BAINBRIDGE ISLAND — New estimates say a corroded Bainbridge Island sewage pipe near the Winslow ferry terminal leaked about twice as much untreated sewage on the beach at Eagle Harbor last week as originally estimated.
By The Associated Press
Marvin Stamn spews:
My point?
Even with you playing in 3 or 4 bands you still need a day job.
Why do people in favor of higher taxes always use legal loopholes to pay less?
old lush?
Is that your ignorance speaking or are you trying to insult me? Either way, epic fail on your part.
It’s cool that you have a hobby “playing music” and can make an extra few dollars to supplement your income. There are lots of gigs that don’t pay enough for pro musicians, that’s the void hobbyists fill.
Marvin Stamn spews:
Easy answer.
All the ones that didn’t vote for him.
Kinda like the car dealers that didn’t contribute to him lost their franchises.
Puddybud is shocked SHOCKED spews:
Oh look, it seems another friend of the HA swineflu weasels has made another pronouncement. A rant on “the messiah”? Naaaaaaaah, perish the thought.
Puddybud is shocked SHOCKED spews:
Hey Mort Zuckerman, you wholeheartedly supported “the messiah” and now you have issues with his middle east policies?
“Arab villagers do not need to have guards at their shops, cafes or restaurants. Why? Because the Israelis do not target the innocent. The President could have acknowledged the suffering of Israeli victims of Arab terrorism “for more than 60 years” when he talked of the “suffering” and “pain” of Palestinians “for more than 60 years.”” – Yep you are right Mort. He didn’t he pandered again! Kind of like a flip-flop!
But wait a minute Mort. Some of the more virulent swineflu of the HA weasel class said only conservatives are attacking “the messiah’s” Cairo speech. You are disagreeing with their puny argument. Of course, you are an east coast college educated liberal, so you know better.
“Meanwhile, the hatred of Jews is cultivated throughout the Arab Muslim world without drawing any rebuke from the moral arbiters who are so ready to condemn Israel for the smallest infraction. The anti-Jewish campaign is so dishonest, so vicious, so persistent that it surpasses that of Nazi Germany in its heyday.” – Yep, many of these types live on HA as swineflu weasels!!!!!

Funnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnny
Puddybud is shocked SHOCKED spews:
Puddy don’t need to find worthless trash on Talking Points Memo, Crooks and Liars, Daily Kos, etc to paste for the HA swineflu weasels to read. The best stuff is the libtard MSM editorial section when these “messiah supporters” start waking up and view the mess they voted for.
Toooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Judy spews:
You can’t expect Rick Santelli to do the job of the whole media single-handedly can you? I mean he’s truthful, factual, and not afraid to tell it like it is, but he never claimed to be God! (Like Obama did!)
