My good friend and former Seattle Weekly colleague, Philip Dawdy, writes one of the best mental health blogs in the country over at Furious Seasons. And today Philip is trying to figure out how he’s going to meet January’s rent — and at the same time file a complaint with the state AG office — after Google Adsense cut him off, and apparently stiffed him on $600 in revenue already earned, over an apparent malware incident Dawdy has no responsibility for. The kicker: Philip can’t even get anyone at Google to tell him what he supposedly did wrong, only an anonymous (and probably automated) response instructing him that
…your AdSense account has posed a significant risk to our AdWords advertisers.
So this is how bloggers are supposed to monetize the Web?
Piper Scott spews:
Geov,
Philip and I used to fight like cats and dogs over TC4 and homelessness politics. But his current effort to shed more light on issues of mental health are worthy of support, and I’ve told him so.
What Google has done is Orwellian in nature and 1984 in Newspeak. In a word, they suck!
Eric Earling over at Sound Politics was on this issue this morning in support of Philip.
Hope enough people make a big enough stink such that someone with a brain at Google looks into this.
The Piper
Lee spews:
Something is definitely fishy with this. If Google cancelled his account because of a particular advertiser’s complaint, they should be up front about it. If it’s because his site was becoming more popular, that’s just not smart business on Google’s part as word tends to get around quick on these internets…
Lee spews:
@2
Either way (or if it’s really because someone was trying to simulate extra click-thru’s), Google should pay up what they owe.
Paul spews:
I think Google is turning to the dark side.
Ian spews:
It’s the free market in action.
Advertiser doesn’t like what someone is saying, so they threaten to pull all their ads from AdSense unless they can the particular blogger’s account.
Roger Rabbit spews:
“So this is how bloggers are supposed to monetize the Web?”
It’s called “eliminating competition” and it’s what all capitalists do when they’re given a free hand. The last thing a “free enterpriser” wants is a “free market”! Stop and think about it. Competition drives down prices and profit margins. While this is good for consumers, why would any capitalist want that? He wouldn’t! The objective of all free markets is to eliminate free markets! That’s why unregulated capitalism doesn’t work — because it’s self-destroying and turns free markets into monopolies every time. We need to regulate capitalists if we want to keep capitalism.

Goldie Leaves £10m To Chinese Restaurant Owners: “Goldie Leaves £10m To Chinese Restaurant Owners ‘Goldie’ Bechal’s death in 2004 wouldn’t have made international headlines if it were not for the fact that the millionaire property magnate left £10m not to her family but the owners of her favorite Chinese restaurant. Goldie’s family lost their case today to overturn the will when it was dismissed by Judge Sir Donald Rattee QC who upheld Goldie’s wishes to leave the fortune to the owners of the Lian restaurant in Witham, Essex. The Judge told the court ‘In my judgment, on the balance of probabilities, Mrs Bechal had testamentary capacity. The will executed by Mrs Bechal in August 1994 was valid.'”

Seattle Jew: “Well, here we are once again at Channukah time. So we Jews get to sing about beatng the shit oout of the Greeks, throwing the bastards out of our temple, and honoring our terrorist heroes for their courage. All in the name of Jesus ..the prince of peace?”
“Of course this does lend itself to some confusion at Xmas time. Did the saviour get a dreydal for Xannukah? How eell did he do at playing the dreydal game? Did He always win? How come that miracle is not recorded???”
“A bigger dilemma is reconciling the two seasons .. we Jews celebrate a military victory by the Jewish priesthood, while the Xtians celebrate an effort to overthrow the priestly authority by this Jesus guy. Of course ultimatley Jeus wins, the Temple freed by the Maccabees is burned to the ground by Jesus disciples now played by Romans and every one eats .. ham?”
“What to do???”
” Anyhow a gourmet grocery store in NYC has figured out the ultimate solution ot the Jewish problem .. Channukah HAM!! I never did understand howsit that the goyem adopted eating pig? WWJD is pretty clear on that issue. The Nazarene did a lot of odd things .. walking on water, disrupting the state bank, gettin himself crucified …BUT this is the ultimate miracle, making pig kosher!”

Ain’t the leaders of Google a bunch of lefties? Isn’t this the lefty modus operandi? We do what we want when we want!
The Federal Elections Commission web site search gave some interesting info. From 2000-2004 Democrats received a humongous $463.5K. Republicans received a measly $5K.
In 2000, Google Chairman and CEO Eric Schmidt gave $100K to the DNC. Further searching shows $25K to the DNC in 2004.
Laura Debonis gave $25K and David Drummond gave $23K to the DNC in 2004.

Wednesday, December 12, is the seventh anniversary of Bush v. Gore, the 5-4 Supreme Court decision that effectively decided the 2000 presidential election. Can there be any better evidence that the Court matters? That’s why we’ve chosen this date to roll out our Take Back the Court campaign, and we need you to be a part of it.
Justice John Paul Stevens said of the decision: “Although we may never know with complete certainty the identity of the winner of this year’s presidential election, the identity of the loser is perfectly clear. It is the nation’s confidence in the judge as an impartial guardian of the rule of law.”
Never again.

Good news, we do know for complete certainty.-
The comprehensive review of the uncounted Florida ballots solidifies George W. Bush’s legal claim on the White House because it concludes that he would have won under the ground rules prescribed by the Democrats.

@14 I remember one time I was talking with Scoop about the events of December 6th and my dear friend Governor Evans walked by and he said to me Joe (he always called me Joe) “that was a damn fine column you wrote yesterday giving a historical reference for this important matter that I want to take up with the state legislature, and i was hoping you could make a few phone calls for me.” I replied, of course, sorry Governor, but I’m a journalist and can’t compromise my journalistic ethics.” The Governor than said to me “Joe I knew you would say that, ha ha.” And then scoop said Governor Mr Connelly (he always called me Mr Connelly) was just telling me… Oops I have to stop here. I haven’t checked the SLOG for new posts for over twenty minutes already.

Didn’t think so.
Fucking hypocrites…
Jean Goodperson spews:
The Republicans can shred the fucking constitution. Imprison every person in the country who doesn’t declare fealty to Bush and when the “liberals” complain you guys will say Clinton did whatever. As long as a “liberal” somewhere is less than perfect anything Bush does is excusable. If only, if only, a couple of you Bush lovers could get ratted out by a pissed off neighbor or ex-spouse and experience what the Bushies do to prisoners, maybe a glimmer of understanding would penetrate you thick sculls. But as long as you feel that torture and incarceration without habeas corpus can’t/won’t happen to you you support the fascist bastard. Let me make it simple for Piper: just because Clinton was a lying cheating asshole doesn’t make it ok for Bush to lie and torture and kill innocent people-anywhere!!!!
proud leftist spews:
I think I just read that Google’s founder got married this week. If so, irrational behavior is easily explained. Not forgiven, just explained.

Nicole Broodinghen spews:
@19 Sure it looks bad. I mean there are fifty states in the union and the one state that the vote problems occurred happened to be the one state in which Bush’s brother was the governor. But coincidences happen.
@1 “What Google has done is Orwellian in nature and 1984 in Newspeak.”
When you order lunch Piper. How long does it usually take for the waitress to figure out just what the fuck you are talking about?
Puddybud spews:
Nicole@19: Why not ask Tennesseans why they rejected Al Gore? Writing about fifty states and one state that didn’t have voting problems rejecting their home boy… Al Gore, travel to Nashville, Knoxville, Memphis or Chattanooga and ask the peeps why the rejection.
Maybe it was his switch on abortion from pro-life before 1992 to pro-choice?
Maybe it was $$$ for his 1996 reelection campaign?
Remember Al Gore once said: “disrespect for America’s Constitution which has now brought our republic to the brink of a dangerous breach in the fabric of the Constitution”.
Yet his 1996 campaign fund-raising phone calls from his VP government office which were against the law disrespecting the Constitution, Section 607 of the US Criminal Code felony “for any person to solicit or receive any contribution… any person who violates this section shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than three years, or both…in any room or building occupied in the discharge of official duties.”
http://law.onecle.com/uscode/18/607.html
Now from a lefty attacking Bush let me use his words here:
“First, the federal government was brought into existence by the people through our Constitution. Second, the Constitution is the supreme law of the land that controls the actions of our public officials in all three branches of the federal government. Third, the powers of the federal government and its officials are not general but instead are limited to those enumerated in the Constitution.”
Our constitution is the foundation of our laws. But Gore said “no controlling legal authority on those “mysterious” contributions?
Rejected and that’s the way it is!

@21: My parents being from Memphis, I can tell you a big part of the answer. In Tennessee Gore is seen as being essentially a creature of Washington, not a homie. (He grew up in DC while dad was a senator, went to the best prep schools, etc.) That, along with the usual Dem/Rep divide between the west and east of the state, is why he had a hard time electorally there in 2000.

not sure how this all got spinning away from google and onto stolen elections, but thanks for the interest in what google has done to me. i doubt that i was censored by an advertiser push since many of the ads on my site were for therapists and alternative care not just big pharma. it basically looks as though someone/s used my site to distribute their own click fraud attack on google. now i have to figure out how to prove that to a faceless company. it’s getting a whole lot like kakfa dealing with google.i just want my 600 bucks for earlier clicks and then i’ll move onto another provider.

Puddybud-give us a call at the Seattle Times. You can’t write worth a shit, but you have, what Frank likes to call, that “Seattle Times attitude.” We can teach you to write what you’re told. You don’t need to think. Attitude is everything here at the Times.
Nicole Broodinghen spews:
@28 Mr Dawdy, Apparently you are new to Horses Ass comments? On topic is not necessary. Indeed most of the commenters on this liberal blog are conservatives. Goldy doesn’t even read the fucking comments. He prefers to hang out with so-called liberals like Joel Connelly and Josh Feit and the war monger Dan Savage. I, myself, enjoy sock puppetry. You know the real me though. We once chased a guy around a horse together.

Most commenters are conservatives. Roger Rabbit AKA Pelletizer (TM) places approximately 1/2 the comments on this blog. And… much of his pellets are wrong. Ask him about his latest pellet – Millionaires pay AMT. Now that’s funny.
There are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more Moonbat!s here than conservatives!
You are probably right about Goldy!

Funny how all the problems punching out a chad or filling

Nicole Broodinghen spews:
@36 Puddybud-I wrote “Indeed most of the commenters on this liberal blog are conservatives.” You esponded blah blah blah about Roger Rabbit. Roger Rabbit is one (1) commenter regardless of how many comments he makes. Is Puddybud an alias for Piper Scott?
@37 Anyone who truly believes in the purported Republican values of smaller government. State rights-see Florida recount in 2000. The right to be left alone by the government-see gay marriage and abortion choice and the drug laws. Balanced budgets-see Bush’s deficits all approved by a Republican congress. Christian values-Thou shall not lie. Thou shall not kill-etc, wouldn’t want to belong to the Republican party.
Puddybud spews:
Nicole Broodinghen farted: “Indeed most of the commenters on this liberal blog are conservatives”
