Democrats Work is holding a day of service this Saturday, September 6, and there’s plenty of opportunity around the state to help chip in:
- Seattle: Beautify the grounds of Roosevelt High School, in the 43rd LD
- Kent: Repair the Way Back Inn, transitional housing for homeless families
- Tri-Cities: Bake sale to benefit Tri-Cities Food Banks and voter registration drive
- Vancouver: Sign up low-income families for free children’s health care with the Clark County Young Democrats
You can RSVP on their website or send them an email at rsvp@democratswork.org to get involved.
Effective politics is about a lot more than just waving signs and insulting your opponents; it’s about building community. And Democrats Work is a great way to involved.

According to a Rasmussen poll, independent voters break 5:1 against Palin (31% against, 6% for). Source: The Economist
Don Joe spews:
A couple of focus groups in Michigan and Nevada showed that independent voters weren’t all that favorable to Gov. Palin’s speech last night. Another data point that confirms the Rasmussen poll results.

It should be spelled Палин, not Palin. To be grammatically correct, it should really be Палина. Her husband will invite his cousins from Russia to liberate Alaska, in the event she is not elected. The proper pronounciation is pa-leen (or pa-leen-a), not pay-lin.

Unfit To Govern
The Economist, a conservative British newsweekly, says:
“The most audacious move of the race so far is also, potentially, the most self-destructive. …
“Mr McCain … has chosen as his running mate, on the basis of the most cursory vetting, a first-term governor of Alaska.
“The reaction from inside the conservative cocoon was at first ecstatic. … Mrs Palin … delivered a tub-thumping speech …. But once the cheering and the chanting had died down, serious questions remained.
“The political calculations behind Mr McCain’s choice hardly look robust. Mrs Palin is not quite the pork-busting reformer that her supporters claim. … Nor is Mrs Palin well placed to win over the moderate and independent voters who hold the keys to the White House.
“Mr McCain’s main political problem is not energising his base; … [h]is problem is reaching out to swing voters …. But it is hard to see how a woman who supports the teaching of creationism rather than contraception … helps him … in the Philadelphia suburbs. A Rasmussen poll found that the Palin pick made 31% of undecided voters less likely to plump for Mr McCain and only 6% more likely.
“The moose in the room, of course, is her lack of experience. … Inexperienced and Bush-level incurious. She has no record of interest in foreign policy, let alone expertise. … She obtained an American passport only last summer ….
“This not only blunts Mr McCain’s most powerful criticism of Mr Obama. It also raises serious questions about the way he makes decisions. … Mr McCain had met Mrs Palin only once, for a 15-minute chat at the National Governors’ Association meeting …. The New York Times claims that his team arrived in Alaska only … a day before the announcement.
“As a result, his advisers seem to have been gobsmacked by the Palin show that is now playing on the national stage. … The contrast with Mr Obama’s choice of the highly experienced and much-vetted Joe Biden is striking.
“Mr McCain’s appointment also raises more general worries about the Republican Party’s fitness for government. … One of the biggest problems with the Bush administration is that it appointed so many incompetents because they were sound on Roe v Wade. Mrs Palin’s elevation suggests that, far from breaking with Mr Bush, Mr McCain is repeating his mistakes.”

@3 That’s cool, Richard! How did you do the Cyrillic?
Roger Rabbit spews:
@2 I can’t see a hockey rink redneck going over real big with suburban swing voters.
Roger Rabbit spews:
@2 (continued) Things are falling apart for the McCain – Iron Maiden ticket in 2 key swing states. I’m loving it! Michigan is a crucial state for Obama. Nevada not so much, but in combination with another small swing state could make up for a loss in Minnesota or Colorado. And if Obama takes all 4 of those states — Michigan, Minnesota, Colorado, and Nevada, he’d be only 1 electoral vote shy of victory and there’s lots of places that vote could come from.

Democrats Work, HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
That’s the biggest oxymoron in the history of human language.
It should be Democrats Don’t Work Because The People They Vote For Always Promise Them Handouts
Mark1 spews:
Democrats and work? Sorry, oil and water there. But, the idea is amusing.

I will be doing some community organizing in the comment section tomorrow if anyone would like to join me.

You use the language toolbar. Of course, you have to add the language under Regional and Language settings in the control panel in order to use it. I would recommend adding both Russian and Serbian (Cyrillic).
The main problem with the Russian language setting is that it uses the Russian keyboard layout, which is quite different than the English keyboard layout. So it takes a lot of guessing or practice to determine which key to hit.
So load the Serbian language keyboard as well. Most of the Serbian characters are identical to the Russian. And the Serbian layout is basically the same phonetically as the English layout.
Or you can go on E-Bay, and buy either a Russian keyboard, or Russian keyboard stickers.

You guys are so fucked…
I’m still laughing at the Obama camp’s reactions to the speech. Like a deer (moose?) in the headlights.
Don Joe spews:

We might be fucked (though I doubt it). But you guys are totally fucked up.
delbert spews:
We need to get out of there before more folks die. That place is a hell hole. Who was their leadership, who represented those people, why didn’t they get some help. They need decent housing and troops to keep them safe. Maybe a surge of troops or something. Or a community organizer.

Are you kidding. Democrats don’t give to charity, they mug rich taxpayers to give to the poor. If democrat do charity work it’s by definition a campaign stunt.
Reformed republican spews:
I love the idiot trolls on this blog – they are the poster children for the brainless.
Getting out and helping people is foreign to republican trolls – they don’t get it.
Republicans prefer handouts to the rich and to corporations making billions like Exxon, earmarks, Abramoff (Ralph Reed and Grover Norquist – the religious guy and the tax guy) lobbying for slave labor, abortions, russian oil barons and gambling for Indian tribes. Repuvblicans only turn out for corruption and earmarks – oh, and tax vbreaks for the ultra rich – but not for everyday hard working americans.
