During the first two weeks of October, Suzan DelBene invested another $1.35 million of her own money into her 8th CD race, bring her total contributions and loans to $2.4 million. The press may not be paying attention, but she obviously believes she has a shot at knocking off Reichert.
SJ spews:
Gad!
I suppose that at current interest rates that is not too much … lets see 200K income/2 million is ten years to pay off. After that it is all profit!
JUST JOKING.
notaboomer spews:
she’s got money to burn. and she’s not a witch. she’s you.

I wish she had commited this money three months ago.
Shemp spews:
WEA endorsing Reichert must have been one the dumbest political moves in the entire history of the teachers’ union.
Mr. Cynical spews:
She is going to lose. It’s silly for her to put all that money in now. She ought to hold it back and use it in 2012. Reichart may not run again.
I know you KLOWNS are grasping at straws. Hell, now Bill Clinton is out running around scolding Democrats for not standing up to take credit for their votes and praise Obama!
What a circus.
You dumbasses were sooooooo excited about gaining power and what do you do??
You remind me of the gang that couldn’t shoot straight. It’s like you were given the steering wheel and controls to the government bus and what do you do?
Start careening from ditch to ditch beating the hell out of the shiny bus the voters of America entrusted to you.
Now, while you are stuck in a big mudhole with a dented bus, no hubcaps, no hood…you are asking for another chance to drive the bus.
No thanks.
you are all blind..and blind folks shouldn’t be driving busses.
notaboomer spews:
i’d vote for her if she’d buy that shitholed taco hell/kfc on the corner of main & blahvue way and turn it into a grass sports fields for west bellevue’s children.
Roger Rabbit spews:
Does anyone besides me see anything wrong with the fact that all the people who represent us in Congress, regardless of party affiliation, are multimillionaires?
You don’t see waitresses, truck drivers, electricians, or fry cooks getting elected to Congress. Meg Whitman, a Republican billionaire, is spending $120,000,000 of her own money trying to buy a seat in the U.S. Senate. How can she possibly represent California’s waitresses, truck drivers, electricians, or fry cooks?
DelBene, for all her qualities — and given that she will be a far superior representative of 8th CD residents than the incumbent benchwarmer — isn’t a working stiff. She’s a millionaire. And America’s political class is made up of millionaires for whom politics is a hobby. I’m not saying they’re all bad or that they all do a lousy job. (I’m saying all the Republicans do a lousy job and a lot of the Democrats do a less than great job.) All I’m saying is they’re not us.
Roger Rabbit spews:
@5 “I know you KLOWNS are grasping at straws.”
Even if we are, that’s still worlds better than fucking goats on some shithole of a rented Montana farm.
sarge spews:
DelBene’s got momentum, and Reichert is floundering. This feels like 2008 in reverse.
She was absolutely one of us, except for a lot smarter and with a biology degree and MBA, and was a football referee, then she became one of the founding partners of Drugstore.com, took it public, and hit the jackpot.
Don’t believe for a minute that she can’t relate to working people.
I’m glad she’s bucking up to unseat Reichert. We had no other viable candidate that could compete financially in this race.
Michael spews:
@7
Yep!
Michael spews:
@5
The 8th has gone from a solid Republican win, to a probable win, to a horse race. I think Delbane is probably going to lose, but she will definitely lose if no one puts any cash or work into the race. For the 8th to be a horse race in a Big Republican Year (look for what’s her head over in the 5th CD to win by 15%) shows you just how shitty a job The Sheriff is doing.
spyder spews:
Meg Whitman, a Republican billionaire, is spending $120,000,000 of her own money trying to buy a seat in the U.S. Senate.
On quick caveat: Whitman is running for Governor of CA. Fiorini is running for Senate, using Rove/Chamber multi-millions to support her own $20+million personal contribution to her campaign.
Right Stuff spews:
IMO it’s all about turnout.
Unlike Seattle, the 8th and the eastside has far more “independents”, who probably voted for Obama and Burner, and will now vote against Obama and Murray. Murray is in BIG trouble if Seattle doesn’t come out BIG.
Delbene is on the wrong side of the wave.
notaboomer spews:
what about her hubby, sarge? i heard he’s done kind of ok.
Roger Rabbit spews:
@12 I stand corrected. I didn’t do a better job of fact-checking what Whitman is running for because, frankly, I don’t give a shit what she’s running for. I only care about whether she wins or loses, and I’m betting that her $120 million buys her nothing more than an ego trip.
notaboomer spews:
how the hell did darcy burner ever manage to compete without being the microsoft millionaire that delbene is? twice even.
ahem.... spews:
well she coudl be putting in a few million because she has 20 or 30 million, right? A few million to her might be like $80,000 to a middle class person who loves politics. Enough to hurt, but not enough to change your lifestule if you’re oh say a certain city councilmember from West Seattle who has a huge designer home on stilts and a partner who’s loaded. I mean we all would throw in what we can. So not sure it means she thinks she can win.
Maybe she’s just trying to hold down the margin to less than 7 points. That would kind of set her up for next time. If she loses big, she’s out, forever. If she loses by 7 or less….maybe the brain injury will leave an open field next time..so maybe her plan is to finish a strong second. Lots of scenarios, and coming close means she can run again in two years (hoping for Obama bump) and crowd out any competitors who might want to run and maybe even take a special election if the brain of the incumbetn goes on the friz big time and he has to resign.
I am sure her advisers who get a commission on the ads are giving her a whole menu of reasons to spend more. I am not sure it’s all a rational analysis either.
sarge spews:
@14. Yes indeed. But that is sort of beside the point.
Traknut spews:
Bad judgment. Proof she made her money by being fortunate to be in the right place and not through effort or ability.
righton spews:
anyone wonder how she could move to washington while her husband is a president of microsoft? clinton style?

really? i thought her incredible wealth and self-funding the bejeesus out of the race *is* the point of this insightful goldy post and your undying respect and admiration for delbene? are you suggesting that having a mega rich hubby is unrelated? this would be one of those elite 1098 couples who would get taxed. let’s put out all the sources of the dough and the connections behind them before the election is over, eh?
All Facts Support My Positions spews:
Maybe the U.S. Chamber of Commerce will give Sheriff dipsh*t 2 or 3 million to “compete” with. I mean, all they will want is the same handouts he has been voting for all along. Just more handouts. And tax breaks, even though they don’t pay taxes. And loopholes. And subsidies. In fact the Sheriff will probably just get together with all the other Wall Street secret money funded swine, and pass a bill to just borrow money from China to pay them all back. Keep it all out in the open. Call it a “tax cut” or something so the zombies don’t complain…..
I am just waiting to see what all those hundreds of millions the billionaires and the corporate scumbags handed out will buy them if the party of nut jobs takes the house, or the senate.
Anyone notice that the “progressives” like DelFazio and Grayson are the prime targets. That’s what they get for standing up to the rich, and the status quo.
You hear about the Wall Street Fund Manager spending all that loot on DeFazio’s nut case challenger. Just because he introduced legislation to make people like fund managers that make a billion dollars a year pay income taxes on it like the rest of us. How dare he!!!!
All Facts Tax Plan
Any income over 5 mil a year 50% top tax rate. Over 20 mil a year 75%. Lets start rebuilding America. Just like the old days when America wasn’t failing.

Hey lefty HA suckers, get our your checkbooks and donate to DelBenzene’s campaign. She NEEDS you! She NEEDS your hard earned dollars so she can buy one more TV ad at 3 am. You idiots are such rubes – you’ll donate to a goat if it’s a Dem and runs for Congress in the 8th CD. Even if that goat is a multimillionnaire. Keep on donating though. Every dollar you give is another dollar DelBenzene gets to spend on her mansion in Medina.
