If a person swears on a Bible to “preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States, so help me God,” and the US has laws saying that people must obey international laws against torture, then wouldn’t part of defending the Constitution include at least looking into reasonable suspicions that torture was official policy?
I mean, this is a matter of law, not a matter for the Washington, D.C. press corpse to decide, much as they might try.
And yes, someone saying something other than “yeah!” is horrible and mean and a sign of being a mean person. I’m arguing against torture out of spite and horribleness. Get off my lawn and don’t torture people!
But I am going to watch the concert ball on the tee-vee, if Sally “DC is a small town” Quinn isn’t providing commentary.
I heard Sting is a last minute addition, which sounds kind of cool, if true.
Get your Obama hat on, or whatever the kids are saying. Bring me a Werther’s.

I agree, John, that we need to look into the illegal and unconstitutional acts of Bushco. However, practically, Obama needs to first deal with the economy and not appear too partisan to start.
Once he gets the evidence out- then he needs to pursue the perpetrators – wherever it leads. The constitution needs to be protected so future Presidents cannot trample it.
He was a constitutional law professor….I think he knows what to do.

Overheard a couple of Boeing employees upset that Obama is president discussing how bad he’ll be. “Oh, he’ll probably give all the defense contracts to Airbus…” ” I wish McCain had won…” on and on
I didn’t have the heart to remind them that McCain hates Boeing and had lobbyists for Airbus working on his campaign.
Just as an aside, now that Obama is president, wouldn’t it be great if he was in Firefox’s spellcheck?
The Guy With No Car spews:
Politically, I don’t think Obama can lead any potential charge against the outgoing administration for war crimes or anything similar. That doesn’t mean that:
o Congress can’t launch an investigation
o The Justice Department can’t launch an investigation
o The people can’t demand investigations
Once one of those bodies gets something started he’d pretty much be compelled to go along. It’d be a case of “go out and make me do the right thing.”

why do liberals say horrible obscene things about President Bush from day one eight years ago; but then turn around and tell conservatives that they can’t criticize Obama, and must “give him a chance.”? Why do you not see the double standard?
Roger Rabbit spews:
@6 Because we’re right and conservatives are wrong! Why should conservatives be allowed to criticize Obama when conservatives have nothing constructive to say? Besides, conservatives impugned our patriotism when we criticized Bush, so we’re gonna impugn their patriotism if they criticize Obama. Why the fuck should the rules for them be different from the rules for us? This is payback, bud. You do it to us, we’re gonna do it to you! How you like them apples, huh?!

Think about this for a minute:
The Party of Lincoln has descended into utter madness. The party that freed the slaves has become a party of venal, petty bastards whose sole concern is the gaining and maintenance of power over others, power over YOU. Nothing more. The party that started the modern conservation movement cares not one whit about the damage they do to our planet and its people as long as there’s profit to be made. The party of limited government and personal responsibility has aligned itself with those who would control every facet of your life, from what you believe, say, and hear, to who you wish to live your life with.
Those are the people you support.
The modern Republican party no longer embraces classical small-c conservatism, which is why so many true conservatives switched sides to join us in sweeping aside the big-spending religious fanatics that proclaimed their patriotism so proudly while undermining and dismantling the freedoms they swore to protect, and viciously (and sometimes violently) smearing anyone who dared to question them.
Those are the people you chose to support.
So, for as long as you continue to espouse the stale, outdated Republican talking points that nobody in the reality-based community takes seriously anymore, you will be at best ignored. At worst, you will be belittled, laughed at, kept at a distance, and watched carefully when we think you might resort to violence to regain what we, the people took back from you due to your utter failure to actually lead and govern a nation.
Yes, I do think it will come to violence. Why, you ask? Because I believe that no one in their right minds will ever let a Republican party this evil anywhere close to power, ever again. Which will mean those who’ve lost their power and privilege will eventually take up arms to take it back by force. But they’ll lose due to their sheer incompetence.
So I guess you should just get used to being the butt of the joke. For the rest of your life.

Hope the right wingers enjoy waking up in a free America for the first time in 8 years. Now that STUPID is out of the way, the fools on the right have nobody left to worship. Their way of life is gone, destroyed, stamped out.
The world is laughing at them. They have nothing left but hatred and hope that America fails.
How utterly pathetic these fools and cowards have become. How utterly irrelevant!
It’s a great day in America and I take great joy in the sorrow of the right – as should all people of freedom and good character.

Last Thursday, Barack Obama’s nominee for Attorney General, Eric Holder, admitted during his Senate Judiciary Committee confirmation hearing that he supported renewing the part of the Patriot Act that allows for the FBI to seek records from businesses, libraries and bookstores as the policing agency investigates suspects in this country. For years we’ve seen news agencies and opinionists rail against the expanded power of the FBI to search such records. But, now with Obama’s AG announcing in his confirmation hearing that he agrees that the FBI should have this power, all anti-Bush administration voices are silent on the matter that had them so exercised for 6 years.
