winning the Land commisisoners race

Defeating little loser Tim Eyeman again with the pathetic I-985
winning strong control of the senate
winning even stronger control of the house
And Burner: the election is still being counted
Yup – I am sooo depressed about the election.
However, I am depressed some at the mess the republicans have made with the economy:
1.2 million jobs lost this year – notice how the job losses from the summer were UNDERESTIMATED for the election – and we find out it was even worse than we thought.
By the time Bush is through he will have Hoover like numbers. Republicans are good for Exxon, big Pharma, the banks but lousy for the economy, jobs and the average hard working person. Republicans are even lousy for the auto industry and the stock market.
If only Bush had forced the auto industry to make fuel efficient small cars – they would not be coming to Washington near bankruptcy with their hands out for corporate welfare…oh, well, the free market made them put all their eggs in big trucks and SUVs so their profits would be slightly higher in the short term.
2010 offers a lot of possibilities at the state level. There will be some defense to be played (Sen. Chris Marr in Spokane, for example), but I want the seat Barlow lost in the 6th back, Dems can make inroads into the 4th, etc., etc.
The really interesting thing will be this legislative session, when there is no money to be had. It’s hard to expand children’s health insurance, give teachers their raises, etc. in this sort of economy.

There, is of course, drilling going on. We didn’t ban it. But, dear Thomas, oil companies are only drilling on about 20% of the leases they currently hold. It’s really easy to have a “ban” when there’s no pressure drill in the banned areas and now that gas prices are going up, the bans are starting to come down.
Btw, Thomas, did you know that:

Maybe not on corporations, at least at first…but I sure hope he delivers on increasing taxes on individuals who make over a quarter million a year.
Why? Well, first of all, the government needs to raise money from somewhere, and it’s pretty dumb to try to get money out of people who don’t have any. At the end of the day, Willie Sutton was a hell of a lot smarter than all of the neocons’ economic “geniuses”…except of course, now there are plenty of banks where there isn’t any money.

From today’s New York Times re: Health Care:
HEALTH CARE: An Overhaul Will Have to Wait
Democrats’ campaign rhetoric aside, few health care analysts expect the new president and Congress to undertake a sweeping overhaul of the health care industry any time soon.
The more pressing needs of a faltering economy make it unlikely that big changes in health care can quickly make their way to the top of the new agenda.
Obama’s biggest challenge will be to convince his ardent supporters that many of his campaign promises will have to wait.
Obama is now dealing in reality…not campaign-speak. There is a huge difference.
