There’s poetic justice in the fact that Frank Blethen inadvertently did America a favor with his slimy smear campaign against Darcy’s Harvard economics degree. Darcy has more influence out of Congress than in. She wouldn’t have time to be the brilliant analyst she has become if she had to study and vote on an endless array of trivial House bills involving things like funding for levees in Republican districts. But as the head of a policy think tank she has unlimited opportunities to solve America’s problems. And America obviously is listening. And Sheriff Hairspray? He’s merely an ignored back bencher.
We so coveted that position. We were deeply disappointed when we didn’t win. Now the seat isn’t worth coveting.
