Republican Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers, WA-05, has condemned the crazy disruptors:
“I certainly don’t condone violence, I don’t condone calling President Obama Hitler and painting swastikas on signs at town halls,” continued McMorris Rodgers, vice chairwoman of the GOP conference.
McMorris Rodgers is the first member of the House Republican leadership to decry the Nazi comparisons. It follows a week of attacks by the House Democrats’ campaign arm on House Republican leaders, who Democrats say should speak out against Rush Limbaugh’s remarks comparing Democrats to Nazis in the healthcare debate.
As Think Progress noted, she didn’t mention Limbaugh by name, so it’s not clear whether the big fat idiot will require an apology.
So good on McMorris Rodgers anyhow.
infidel spews:
Where were you lefties when all the Bush/Republicans = Hitler/Nazis comparisons were being made? Where were your condemnations when the anti-war fucknuts were interrupting hearings and meetings?
These actions are right out of the playbook you libtards created decades ago, don’t like your own medicine, too fuckin bad.
Turnabout is fair play.
Emily spews:
Now they should ask her if she thinks Obama was born in the US.
Roger Rabbit spews:
@1 Why shouldn’t we call Republicans “Nazis”? You guys behave like Nazis. You’re warmongers who kidnap, torture, and murder innocent people.
Roger Rabbit spews:
It’s nice that McMorris-Rodgers is exercising a smidgeon of responsibility, but she should stay home with her young child. She’s a bad mom.*
* In case you’re wondering where I got this from, this is exactly what you asswipes said about Darcy Burner, so I figure the same applies to McMorris-Rodgers.

Palast Blasts Obama’s Health Reform
Progressive muckraker Greg Palast, the guy who exposed the GOP’s illegal voter “caging” schemes in Florida and Ohio that enabled Bush to steal the 2004 election, doesn’t like the deals Obama has cut with Big Pharma and other health care special interests. Obama, he says, is a sellout.

Here are a few facts you should know about the drug industry.
— Basic research is paid for by government, not drug companies.
— Research is only 5% to 8% of a typical drug company’s budget.
— Over half of the drug industry’s total revenues are spent on marketing.
— Very few compounds are new drugs. Most “new drugs” simply combine two or more existing drugs in order to extend the lives of their patents.
Proud To Be An Ass spews:
@1: “Turnabout is fair play.” Fine with me. Of course, when lefties were demonstrating dolts like you condemned them by calling them “fascists” (Jonah Goldberg, I’m looking at you) “anti-american”, “thugs”, but why repeat that long sorry list? Now we get to use this language against you guys.
As you say, turnabout is fair play.
YLB spews:
If Palast is correct than that truly sucks.
Say it ain’t so Mr. President.
Marvin Stamn spews:
Why should he be upset. Was he really expecting Change?
So what obama talked about transparency and how he was going to air the meetings on cspan.
Don’t believe me, watch him say it himself, over and over and over.
“But what we will do is, we’ll have the negotiations televised on C-SPAN, so that people can see who is making arguments on behalf of their constituents, and who are making arguments on behalf of the drug companies or the insurance companies.”
And then the obama goes and has secret meetings.
Marvin Stamn spews:
Maybe he will have a press conference in the oval office. He’ll sit in his big chair, wag his finger at you and say, I did not have secret meetings with those drug companies.
Of course, you’ll lap it up like steves stupid solution.
YLB spews:
10 – Fuck you!
Why don’t you go down to the Inglewood Forum and scream at the folks being well served by our wonderful health care system.
Best in the world – yeah right!
ArtFart spews:
@5 There is the rather disgusting possibility that having started out talking up single-payer, Obama and the other progressives will end up being maneuvered into so many compromises in order to be able to say they “passed something” that all we’re going to end up with is a major portion of Medicare handed over to the private insurers.
Daddy Love spews:
McMorris-Rodgers may be just a smidge smarter than her GOP colleagues. Republican favorables are cratering.

Favorability Ratings of Democrats and Republicans, 8/13/09 (among Independent Voters)
Democrats 42%/47%
Republicans 5%/85%

I don’t know. Those same drug companies are right now plunking down $150 million for ads favorable to health insurance reform. If we cut a deal with them so that they run ads on the side of reform and DON’T run ads on the other side, maybe that’s a deal that makes some amount of sense.
ArtFart spews:
@6 It’s actually a little more complicated than that. Much of basic research is indeed government-funded, but increasingly over the last couple decades a lot of the heavy lifting of new-drug development has been done at “biotech” startups. Once one comes up with something that looks like it’s going to fly, the startup peddles itself to one of the majors, and a few of the founders walk away with very full pockets. Even Eli Lilly’s much-heralded introduction of Humulin came from the purchase of a smaller company that had done all the development and clinical testing, and had a large-scale production plant all ready to go. Lilly’s main contribution was a huge marketing campaign and a distribution network.
ArtFart spews:
@14 If we’re lucky, what may happen is that we’ll finally get medical insurance divorced from employment, but run by private insurers with a little more regulation and a lot of taxpayer subsidies.
Daddy Love spews:

Hold on there. The provisions of the various bills on the table will do quite a bit of reguilation of insurance companies. Taking pre-existing conditions off the table alone wiill be a huge win.
And if we DO subsidize some amount of insurance coverage, and cover 97% of Americans along the way, it will be doing more good things with subsidy money than the oil-depletion allowance and agricultural subsidies combined.
Roger Rabbit spews:
9, 10 — Whatever Obama’s failings are, the GOP’s are worse. He may be putty in lobbyists’ hands, but Republicans are their tools.

I hope you righties realize the precedent that’s been set vis a vis presidential emergency powers. This health crisis is approaching the proportions of a national emergency — the kind of emergency where a president could simply dictate the way it will be with health reform before more lives and treasure are lost.
And as for those purveyors of lies (you all know who you are), you are demonstrably traitorous to yourselves and your fellow citizens and you should be rounded up and put in the detention camps we’ve been secretly building.
Sam Adams spews:

Was it a Dem or Repub President that put a control on wages that, in turn, prompted businesses to offer health insurance as an incentive to workers?

re 21: I hope a relative of yours dies because their insurance carrier denied them a procedure on some specious grounds. This is a story that happens every day. Then we’ll see if you think there’s a health crisis.
You conservatives are all alike. Nancy Reagan fights stem cell research for years (as the knee-jerk conservative that she is) until someone finally breaks through the intelligence shield that conservatives equip themselves with and she belatedly realizes that stem cell research could help HER family member. Suddenly stem cell research is important to Nancy Reagan.
Is Nancy Reagan Stupid? Maybe , maybe not. But she is surely selfish and obtuse — like you.
You don’t see your knee-jerk politicized foot dragging as impacting other people’s lives. That’e why I wish for a teaching opportunity for you as a person precious to you lies dieing because your insurer wants to make an extra buck.
You deserve that because you and your cohorts cause that.May you rot in hell — or hopefully, sooner.
