Blogging Georgetown continues its expose of the King County Conservation Board, the kinda-sorta elected body that’s supposed to “promote the sustainable use of natural resources through responsible stewardship,” but in fact has been hijacked by the pro-builder BIAW crowd.
Last month, I posted details about the ultra-right “property rights” stealth candidate activists that had taken over the majority of the board of the King County Conservation District… As it turns out, the KCD did hire an E.D., a certain Jeffrey Possinger, attorney, former Duval mayor and city council member, and candidate for the 45th District. Oh, and of the GOP, endorsed by the “Citizen Taxpayers Association” the group behind I-933….
And from the Seattle Times on Possinger’s run for the Legislature:
Possinger supports opening more road-maintenance contracts to competition from private enterprise to reduce costs, and he wants to reduce the number of transportation agencies and environmental regulations.
Yeah, that’s right, a guy who runs on eliminating environmental regulations is now the Executive Director of a “Conservation District.”
It is time to either eliminate the KCCD, or elect its members via a proper ballot at a general election the way we do every other elected body.

Excuse me while I chuckle a bit. You see, Pierce County’s Conservation Board does good work. God, I love it when Pierce County kicks King County’s ass.
duncan renaldo spews:
That miserable sneaky, prick, Kevin Carns was or is on one of those boards.
Roger Rabbit spews:
We need to shine a bright spotlight on these cockroaches! An organized GOTV effort by King County Democrats should be enough to get rid of them. In the meantime, publicizing KCCC elections should be a top priority of our county and local Democratic organizations. Finding good candidates should be a snap in this town, what with all the academics and activists we have here.
Roger Rabbit spews:
“Possinger supports opening more road-maintenance contracts to competition from private enterprise to reduce costs …”
How long do we taxpayers have to keep paying for this lie so privatizeers can keep putting our money in their pockets? GOP claims that privatizing saves money are bunk. Private contractors have all the costs that government does, plus inefficiencies of scale, plus tack-on profit margins. In Iraq, a “private security contractor” costs taxpayers 10 times what a soldier does.
Willis spews:
Goldy – it’s the King Conservation District, not the King County Conservation Board. So it’s also called the KCD, not the KCCD.
Just FYI.
KC Dem spews:
Goldy,
I voted in the Mar-2008 election
I asked them why they did not piggyback on top of a school election.
The Pollworkers said KCREALS would have charged them $100k
Maybe Ron needs to sharpen his pencil
GC spews:
re 5: What are you talking about, Willis?
What'sittoya spews:
Funny, I didn’t realize that only hard-leftists are eligible to take office in this county.
What'sittoya spews:
..at least to hear this crowd speak and have it suggested that the board just go away if it can’t be run by radical leftists.
ArtFart spews:
This somehow seems like an issue Toby Nixon should be involved in.
timetravella spews:
Maybe they should call it the King’s Conservation District
GBS spews:
“Conservatives and conversation don’t mix,” but conservatives and corruption go hand-in-hand.
ArtFart spews:
Depends on your terminology. The present crop of whatever-they-are’s who’ve taken control of the Republican Party have more or less remolded the concept of “conservatism” in their own craven image and likeness.
There was actually a time when conservatives wore the mantle of stewardship with virtue and pride, and there are a few who still do. Maybe we’ll be hearing more from them after the crooks and shysters have been cast into the shit pit of history.
Richard Pope spews:
All we have to do is get the King County Council not to approve the $10 per parcel property tax assessment for the KCCD, which has to be renewed every year. The KCCD does not have statutory authority to impose this tax on its own.
Too bad we don’t have enough REAL Democrats on the King County Council. Instead, we have BIAW Democrats like Larry Gossett and Larry Phillips, who are quite enthusiastic to support the interests of BIAW and developers, and have an equal lack of enthusiasm for expanding the Democratic majority on the council.
What'sittoya spews:
What do you want to bet that Goldy would not call for the dissolution of this group IF LEFTWINGERS RAN IT!
Roger Rabbit spews:
@8 You haven’t heard about the new minimum-IQ requirement? It was instituted because of Bush.
Roger Rabbit spews:
@15 In case you haven’t figured it out yet, we liberals don’t like you fucktards, and we don’t like the idea of you running public policy, public agencies, or public anything else.
Toby Nixon spews:
@10. ArtFart spewed:
In what way, Art? Jeffrey mentioned to me a couple of months ago that he was applying for the job, but I wasn’t asked even for a letter of recommendation.
ArtFart further spewed @13:
Indeed. Check out http://www.repwa.org.
Willis is right, by the way — it’s the King Conservation District (KCD), not KCCB or KCCC or any of the other variations cited in the comments.

This is one thing that can’t be blamed on Ron. County-wide elections really do cost that much to run, and state law requires costs of elections to be shared amongst the agencies that have issues or candidates on the ballot. RCW 29A.04.410. Blame your legislature.
Toby Nixon spews:
In the interest of full disclosure, Goldy, you really should mention the comment thread over on Blogging Georgetown, which is much closer to describing the situation than the original post.
tpn spews:
Because anonymous commenters who hurl epithets such as liberal and socialist in a manner meant to be derogatory are way more reliable sources then bloggers who do their homework.
