“Perhaps America could regain its reputation if General Pace would send a division of US Marines to arrest Bush, Cheney, the entire civilian contingent in the Pentagon, the neoconservative nazis, and the complicit members of Congress and send them off to the Hague to be tried for war crimes.”

You know, on second thought – if Seattle considers the viaduct akin to the Great Wall, you think they’d be fighting to KEEP it. It’s another thing they can say they have in common with their communist breatherin in China.
Speaking of Seattle’s commie pals, did you hear that China executed a criminal convicted of a non-violent crime recently? Gosh! Communist nations are awesome!

I support the tunnel option, but only if we can get Puget Sound to back up and flood all those fucking liberals inside out of existence.

I didn’t know they would have to knock down so many buildings to rebuild the viaduct!
Is it too much to ask that you use a picture from, say, at least the 1990’s?

Yes. It’s liberals who are borrowing all that Chinese money.

That’s nothing! Some conservatives want to execute millions of law-abiding Americans for exercising their First Amendment free speech rights.
Er, Goldy, check your comment spam settings … Either that or it looks like the trolls are mad you want to take their bridge (ah, guess that’s “viaduct”) away. Not sure what the viaduct has to do with the relative merits of communism vs. capitalism, but whateva’.
Anyway, thanks for the pic. That sure looks purty, don’t it? Someday we in Seattle will successfully screw ourselves good with our utter lack of vision.

I’m not usually a utiliatarian, but I think it’s time we ran some cost-benefits on this viaduct business. For instance. How many people died when the Embarcadero pancaked? I believe it was 50 or 60. And if we pour a billion into a new highway–elevated or not, doesn’t matter–how many people will die as a result of city services not provided? (Police, emergent and routine medical, you can probably think of others.) I would wager more than 60.
Now, I’m sure Greg Nickels has taken Hegel’s critique of the utilitarians to heart, being as he’s such a big fan of the Phenomenology of Mind. But still–is Nickels’ Hegelianism really reason enough to support his policies? With Bentham and Mill, I say, “let it stand–until it falls.” Then, at worst, we’ll have saved money, time, effort, AND lives. It’s win-win-win-win. But it’ll never happen.
