The news broke today that Cathy McMorris Rodgers is going to do the rebuttal to the State Of the Union. I think it’s actually a decent choice to not have it be someone who is running for president. The linked piece makes it sound like she’s going to talk about her personal story. The only policy stuff they mention is:
She said through Boehner’s office that she was “honored” to be sharing the Republican vision for the future: “one that trusts the American people and doesn’t limit where you finish because of where you started.”
So it leaves us guessing exactly what she’ll be talking about. Maybe how the Democrats’ support of strengthening the Violence Against Women Act, The Affordable Care Act and talking about immigration reform, are against American Values. Maybe she’ll talk about made up fetal pain and her party’s plan to force women to stay pregnent. Perhaps she’ll complain about how high taxes are even though Federal taxes are lower for most Americans than they’ve been in a long time. Maybe she’ll talk about her brave opposition to Sandy relief. Perhaps she’ll finally be able to name some of the specific spending cuts she’s for. She’ll probably try to turn the rhetoric of the war on women on its head. Maybe she’ll just make stuff up about marijuana.

When did she become a Democrat?

Frankly, I expect her to argue for reinstating vagrancy laws and work houses. The way this works is a police officer stops you, and if you don’t have $500 cash and a rent or mortgage receipt dated within the last 30 days on your person, he cites you for vagrancy and transports you to a work house operated by a private contractor
(who, of course, is a Republican).
The work house is a pretty good deal for the contractor, because by rquiring vagrants to work 16-hour shifts, he can sleep 300 workers in 100 bunks, and feeding them each one slice of week-old white bread and one potato a day also helps keep costs low. A vagrant can survive on this diet indefinitely, as long as s/he doesn’t peel the potato and eats skin, which holds most of the nutrients in a potato. The bread is fine after you scrape off the mold. During World War 2, prisoners held by the Japanese thrived on this diet, and if it was good enough for British, Dutch, and French POWs, then it’s certainly good enough for vagrants.
In other words, Republicans will make being poor a crime, and turn it into another profit center for themselves.

Don’t overlook the franchising angle!

China and other Asian countries have sweatshops, and if you buy Apple or Nike products, you’re supporting that system. So why not do what they’re doing and become a one-percenter? If you’re already supporting that system at the consumer end, there’s no moral issue in participating at the supplier end.

Coming from a wealthy family and never working a single day at a “real” job in her life she knows all about this one.
It’s really important to pick who your parents are going to be and if a sperm or egg is just too lazy to put forth that effort why should the rest of us be punished for it.
