As has been widely reported, Rep. Dave Reichert told a crowd at yesterday’s fundraiser that Vice President Dick Cheney offered to “campaign for your opponent if it’ll help.”
Well, Democratic challenger Darcy Burner has sent a letter to Cheney taking him up on his offer:
April 19, 2006
Office of the Vice President
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW
Washington, DC 20500Dear Mr. Vice President:
During your recent trip to Washington State to support White House endorsed candidates, you were quoted by both Seattle newspapers as telling 8th District Representative Dave Reichert that you would “campaign for your opponent if it’ll help.”
As Reichert’s Democratic opponent, I would like to take you up on your kind and thoughtful offer and I cordially invite you to come and spend a day campaigning with me in the 8th District. The district reaches from Microsoft’s Redmond Campus to Mount Rainier National Park and offers a microcosm of America. Here are some of the events I would like to plan for your visit to the 8th.
Let’s start at Mount Rainier where we can take in the beautiful and precious parklands and forests. Here you may be able to see clearly why our district so opposed the Republican plan
Richard Pope spews:
“In Kent, we could meet with some workers who have had their jobs exported oversees and you can explain why the Bush tax policy gives tax breaks to American companies who out source American jobs. They’d like to know why their own tax dollars are being used to help them become unemployed.”
IT IS EXACTLY THE SAME TAX POLICY WE HAD WHEN BILL CLINTON WAS PRESIDENT!
Richard Pope spews:
“Then, perhaps, we could visit a senior center and you could try to explain to our elderly why your prescription drug benefit – supported by Mr. Reichert – is creating such confusion and chaos.”
HOW ABOUT BILL CLINTON’S PRESCRIPTION DRUG BENEFIT? IT WAS VERY EASY TO UNDERSTAND!
Richard Pope spews:
“Finally, we could stop at Bellevue Community College where I could easily assemble a group of students who can not understand why the Bush Administration and Mr. Reichert would propose and support making it harder for student to get college loans.”
BY REQUIRING STUDENTS TO PROVIDE PROOF OF U.S. CITIZENSHIP OR LEGAL IMMIGRANT STATUS IN ORDER TO GET STUDENT LOANS?
Richard Pope spews:
“Moving north from Mount Rainier, I would like to have you meet with some of our brave Iraq veterans and their families to learn first hand of the inadequate body and vehicle armor your Administration provided them.”
WHICH HAPPENS TO BE 100% MORE THAN WHAT BILL CLINTON PROVIDED THEM — NOTHING!
Richard Pope spews:
“Also, I am sure National Guard families and veterans will want to ask you why your Administration and Mr. Reichert opposed giving them the same health benefits as the regular military along whose side they have fought.”
IF THEY ARE MOBILIZED FOR ACTIVE DUTY, THEY GET THE SAME HEALTH BENEFITS AS ANY OTHER SOLDIER. AGAIN, EXACTLY THE SAME THING THEY GOT WHEN BILL CLINTON WAS PRESIDENT.
Richard Pope spews:
“Let’s start at Mount Rainier where we can take in the beautiful and precious parklands and forests. Here you may be able to see clearly why our district so opposed the Republican plan – supported by Mr. Reichert – to make it easier for developers and private interests such as mining companies to take over and ruin these treasured public lands.”
WHICH HAPPEN TO BE THE EXACT SAME LAWS THAT WERE IN PLACE WHEN BILL CLINTON WAS PRESIDENT.
Richard Pope spews:
I bet you that none of the daily newspapers will print any of Darcy Burner’s nonsense from her letter to Dick Cheney.
HowCanYouBePROUDtobeAnASS spews:
I wonder how we can ‘boo’ the sacrificial donkette while we cheer for a great VP? Bring it on lil’ donkette, bring it on!
DT spews:
I’m not sure why Goldy prints everything from you, Mr. Pope. Why don’t you start your own blog?

Robert spews:
Richard Pope ♥ the Clinton Defense
Janet S spews:
Yes, darcy is quite cute.
But at least we know more about her positions than we did:
She is against any plan that uses are natural resources. I guess that means she is ready to go back to nature, or just continue to import everything we need from those countries that still mine and drill.
She wants to force the military to use body armor that is available, but not wanted, because it adds too much weight and decreases mobility.
She wants tax breaks for corporations. Or wants companies who do business overseas to be punished for it. Or something. Not sure what this means.
She thinks seniors are too stupid to understand the new prescription benefit. This isn’t what real seniors are saying, who seem to be just fine with it, but maybe she only hangs out with ones who aren’t too bright.
She wants to make the average guy struggling to make ends meet and feed a family subsidize college education.
I’m glad to see that she actually came out to the wider public to voice her views. Of course, I could read the dem talking points and get the exact same information.
HAD ENOUGH YET? spews:
Jack @14
How ’bout we dispense with the Socratic inquiry and try this instead: You come up with the supporting evidence that Richard neglected to provide for his claims. Then go on to explain what the performance of past Presidential administrations has to do with the issues in the 8th congressional race.
Voter Advocate spews:
Seems like quite a lot of attention is being paid to this third tier candidate by her opponents.
D Huygens spews:
At what point do the Bush apologists’ self-deceptions grow too much even for them to perpetuate any longer? How is it that there are still 35% of moron-Americans standing with these buffoons? Are you really willing to re-elect someone like rubber-stamp Reichert and let this madness continue unchecked?
Voter Advocate spews:
1.
Darcy Burner hasn’t been in a position to vote on measures that would correct what she points out as deficiencies on federal policy, Dave Reichert has.
The point isn’t how things got to be how they were from 2005 until now, but what the current Congressman from the 8th District has done to correct them.
Nothing.
Anonymous spews:
I want to know if Kevin Carns actually dresses like a woman when he posts as “Janet S.”
Richard Pope spews:
People say that I should be the one coming up with evidence to support these claims of political positions.
WAIT A MINUTE HERE — isn’t Darcy Burner the one who is seeking election to Congress? Isn’t Burner the one who is attacking the incumbent’s record?
Shouldn’t Burner be the one coming up with evidence to support her claims? I didn’t see a shred of evidence in her supposed letter to Dick Cheney.
Richard Pope spews:
And this thing about the “prescription drug benefit”? Wasn’t that passed by Congress in 2004 — prior to Dave Reichert being elected to Congress? Reichert didn’t take office until January 2005.
Of course, Darcy Burner can’t tell the truth about what she was doing in 2004, so why should we expect her to tell the truth about Reichert?
BushWentAWOL spews:
Pope A Dope proves he’s as stupid as he appears to be. He seems to think Bill Clinton is running for office again!
Hey Dickie. Here’s the thing, as the web’s leading pretend lawyer, you should at least realize that especially in Washington state, running against Bill Clinton, who isn’t a candidate, won’t help ! ! !
LOL!
righton spews:
why should the Feds have to pay anybody to go to college.

Richard Pope spews:
In 2004, Darcy Burner was doing which of the following:
[ ] a. Working as a top-level Microsoft executive
[ ] b. Taking a leave from Microsoft to raise her son Henry
[ ] c. Taking a leave from Microsoft to run for Congress
[ ] d. Attending University of Washington law school
[ ] e. Speeding through school zones
[ ] f. Causing chain reaction collisions and injuring children
[ ] g. All of the above
[ ] h. None of the above
[ ] i. Who cares? BUSH AND HIS CRONIES MUST GO!
righton spews:
Hey Farcy;
What part of Mount Rainier is being threatened by developers?
Are you honestly claiming that, or as I bet, trying to blur some relaxation of forest service (NOT PARK) rules that have zero impact on a NATIONAL PARK.
Richard Pope spews:
Correct answer for 2004 is D.
Darcy Burner has variously claimed she was doing A, B and/or C during 2004.
Darcy’s husband Michael did E during 2004.
Burner didn’t do F until 2005.
Another TJ spews:
#22,
You can either back up your claims or you can’t. Which will it be?
Richard Pope spews:
But if you are a liberal moonbat, “I” would be the only correct answer.
HAD ENOUGH YET? spews:
22.
Darcy Burner hasn’t made any claims on this blog. You have. And by the way, no one is encouraging you to back up your claims. We know you’re tired and need your rest. I was suggesting to Jack @ 14 that rather than attempting to engender sympathy for your positions by calling a foul for the ad-hominem attacks, he might instead consider taking up the banner for you while you rest.
Voter Advocate spews:
I hope you all followed the link in Goldy’s article on Darcy’s letter to Cienna Madrid’s article in “The Stranger” about Dave Reichert’s kickoff breakfast. I liked it all, but this part in particular:
I wanted to be able to size him [Reichert] up. Instead, this is what I got:
“President Bush’s tax cuts are working… Change is tough…Dreams are still happening. I read Dr. Seuss the other day….” Which flourished into a story about a little boy Reichert spoke with who wishes to grow up and be a paper cup stacker, and how he, Reichert, wants to help create a nation where this little boy can follow his dreams and stack cups for a living. People in the audience were nodding their heads as if they, too, wanted to help poor children learn to stack cups.
I’m sure they all do. That’s why the wingnuts don’t think there’s a need to help kids go to college.
Daniel K spews:
I see Richard Dope is off his meds again.

He, he…you are becoming downright apoplectic over Darcy, my friend, and it is taking its toll on your ability to think clearly.

Oh, yeah…I have no doubt whatsoever that our esteemed Champions of Unfettered Capitalism would be more than happy to let the chainsaw jockeys loose in Rainier National Park if they thought they could get away with it. You don’t pay much attention to MSM news reports, do you Richard? Apparently it flew over your head that the $50 billion of budget cuts jammed through Congress by Republicans a short time ago hit student financial aid hard, and also cut funding for enforcing child support.
Typical Republican crapola: Finance wars of conquest and tax cuts for the super-rich by picking on students, single mothers, and veterans’ health care.
Mark The Redneck spews:
Poon – What the fuck are you talking about “paying for tax cuts”. I spent half the fucking night yesterday explaining that tax RATE cuts INCREASE tax receipts. Tax cuts don’t have to be “paid for” you fucking idiot. Tax cuts GENERATE more revenue. Ronald Reagan proved it.
The logic is simple enough for even a delirious moonbat to understand. When the “investor class” ie successful people get to keep more of THEIR money, they invest it in businesses. Business generates wealth. But when government gets money it goes down a fucking rathole because it isn’t used to create anything.
Ya gotta stop drinking old media kook aid. “Tax cuts” are actually tax RATE cuts. The RATE cuts generate MORE revenue.

Single mothers getting screwed? Please, they made their choices. They can live with them. Their choices ARE NOT MY FUCKING PROBLEM. If ya can’t feed ’em, don’t breed ’em.
And just because you were too stoopid, lazy and irresponsible to manage your finances, DOES NOT MEAN that the taxpayers should pick up the tab for your medical expenses. You made the choices. You live with them. The fact that you have to spend 1/3 of your income is NOT MY FUCKING PROBLEM.
Mark The Redneck spews:
Poon… textbook example of “aggressive stoopidity”. Hey harry, don’t let facts and logic get in the way of your feeeeeelings…
dlaw spews:
Mary The Redneck @ 55
Well, you are too stupid to understand that spending = income, income X taxation = government revenue, when revenue < spending you get deficits. Therefore, when Reagan and Bush Jr. INCREASED SPENDING VASTLY, government revenue went up AND there were deficits. So, I don't think a persuasive case for LESS spending on education will EVER come from YOU. YOU constitute a prima facia case that America is not spending enough by far.
dlaw spews:
is less than spending you get deficits. Thus, when Reagan and Bush Jr. VASTLY INCREASED SPENDING you got more revenue AND deficits.
Since you can’t even understand that simple arithmetic, I don’t think ANY case for LESS spending on education will EVER come from you. YOU are a prima facia case that America does not spend enough.
harry poon spews:
To the political religions of the 20th century and their fanatical believers that plague us to this day , I would list Marxism, Fascism, and I would add: “American Corporatism”. It has an ideology, sacred beliefs that are not grounded in fact, but in faith, like: a- “free markets” b- “invisible hands” c- “taxing the rich impoverishes us all” , and many more!
What a bunch of TWATS!!!
HAD ENOUGH YET? spews:
When MTR got his cousin pregnant in 8th grade, he had to quit school and get a paper route to help support the baby. Now, sixty years later, he can barely read, he’s living on social security, and he’s never earned more than $13,000 a year in his entire, sad life. As a poor man, he’s paid very little in taxes, he’s often had to rely on public health (veneral disease), and he’s occaisionally been in trouble with the law, mostly because he can’t pay his speeding tickets.
Had the “gummint” stepped in sixty years ago and helped out the story might be different. With a decent education MTR might even have been able to learn “his numbers and cipherin and such”. Thus equipped he might have been able to hold down a steady job, stay out of jail, contribute to the economy, buy a trailer and even pay some taxes. In fact, its likely he would have paid much more in taxes in his lifetime than it would have cost the “gummint” to save him from his sad fate.

And it was all off the books. Neat trick, huh? Also, I pointed out that tax revenues ALWAYS go up. It’s a historical trend.
The % of increase under Reagan , however, was very low. It may have been the lowest > I’m not certain. But it was very low.

“And what does Darcy Burner propose doing about the “prescription drug benefit”? Burner criticizes Reichert for supporting it, so presumably she wants to eliminate it. How does that benefit senior citizens who are struggling to afford health care?”
You might be on to something there, Richard. Apparently, we could slash some government and get better prices without the drug benefit. Not surprisingly, the Bush plan doesn’t work very well.

RUFUS!!!! DUDE!!
Tell us all about how “most Republicans are fighting in Iraq now”!!
I love that story!!

RIchard Pope @ 42 “How does that benefit senior citizens who are struggling to afford health care?â€
Hey, I have an idea!!! Let Medicare actually use their volume to make perscription drugs CHEAPER!!!
Now there is a great idea that Bush and THe Rubber Stamp Congress shit on very early in the game.
How are they gonna pay off their buddies in Big Pharm if they can’t choke the last pennies out of Senior Citizens?
Bush’s Prescription Drug Benifit Plan is the Enron of Medicare Reform.

Only instead of just California electricity consumers and Enron stock holders getting screwed, Bush’s Prescription Drug Plan fucks everyone in the ass!

Well I got my laughs for the day. Thanks Donna.

re 96: High productivity and cheap labor does mean fewer jobs. A small child could understand that. Are you insane? [hehe]
Donnageddon spews:
I’m glad you are amused, RUFUS.
Now if only you could explain why?
Proud To Be An Ass spews:
If productivity did not destroy jobs, many of us would still be working the soil as subsistence farmers. The question is this: What is done with the resources freed up by the job displacement?
At the extreme, sci-fi fans commonly imagine civillizations so technologically advanced that just a few “workers” (or intelligent machines) provide for the needs of all. So, where did all those jobs go?
You get the idea, I’m sure.

Deal with it. Your ‘pResident’ is more hated than Clinton ever was. By 5 billion people or more around the world. Bill made some mistakes. Some big ones, like NAFTA. Some small ones like Monica. So what. Unlike Bush, every mistake Bill made was correctible. Bush has created a mess that will take generations to clean up.
