Barstow

Looks like a 1950s subdivision (notice the absence of pools?) in a dry part of the state. Did they develop the Mojave Desert back then?
Roger Rabbit spews:
@1 How did you find it so fast? Is there a trick to this game I don’t know about?

I guessed that it was an interstate highway along the top of the picture. I skimmed the satellite photos of east-west highways until finding an area that looked similar. I looked at I-8, I-10, and I-40 before finding it.
My first hunch was just west of Yuma, Arizona, but it turns out there is next to nothing on the CA side of the state line there.
Roger Rabbit spews:
Yeah, but how do you zero in on the exact picture?
milwhcky spews:
In this case, when I found a neighborhood in Bing Maps satellite photos that resembled the photo in the contest, I simply switched the Bing map from satellite photos (“Aerial”) to “Birds Eye” photos and looked around the area for the exact location.
It only took me about 5 minutes to solve this week’s location, but only because I was right about it being alongside an interstate highway. Otherwise, it could have been a long search.

Good win!

It looks depressing even from outer space.
