State Senator Don Benton, R-Vancouver, has been talking to Drudgico:
Benton warned that Rossi might find the 2010 campaign a less hospitable environment than he expects.
“Democrats have already attacked Dino. He doesn’t have any money in the bank, he doesn’t have any money raised. He doesn’t have the foundation. The talent pool is pretty much committed for this election cycle. It’s too late for him to become a viable candidate in this race,” Benton said, adding: “I think he would make an excellent governor and hope he decides to run for governor again.”
Okay then, Benton has spoken, Dino. Your move!
Maybe another Moore poll, followed by a Rasmussen poll, followed by a Chris Grygiel post at Strange Bedfellows? You guys seem to have that all worked out, you might as well try it once again. It got Rossi to the brink of not running and having no money.
Not so fast….Dino can still run as an “independent” (heh).
Well, everything that Benton said is true, Rossi would have quite an uphill battle against Murray. And she’s going to be a much better campaigner than Gregoire was.
But I can see why the RNC would want Rossi to run. They simply don’t have a credible candidate to face her, and Rossi is one of the few with statewide name recognition available. They don’t expect him to win of course, but they aren’t going to tell him that. They just want someone who, they hope, can draw Democratic Party resources (money, time, attention, energy) away from other races. But I think even that goal is beyond Rossi’s reach.
Rossi would be foolish to take up this fight against Murray. When he loses again (by a considerably larger percentage this time), he would then be a three-time loser, which would make it darn near impossible for him to raise the money he would need for another state-wide race.
How will the Rissi folks blaim Dems for Benton’s remarks?
Don Benton’s nostrils are too far apart and porcine to be able to pull off a statewide election… but he still he might be able to knock off Sleek Dino in his sharkskin suits and goodfella pompadour.
I hope he runs for governor again, too. =:-D<
@1: Once he loses the nomination to McKenna for gov. he should run as an independent to split the Republican vote.
I can just hear the coming Republican debate on which of the two is most evyil, and therefore most suitable. And the Seattle Times’ heads will explode trying to pick which is the most worthy of their conscience-driven moderate endorsement.

It’s fascinating that there really is no significant challenger to Sen. Murray. Are the Republicans really going to sit this one out!

he can run as anything he wants. But in the Governor’s race, unless he finishes at least second in the primary, he ain’t gonna be on the general. And it makes no difference whether he puts an R a D or a Mr. Yuk after his name.
