A woman was shopping with four kids, when one of the kids reached into her purse and accidentally discharged the weapon, according to Kootenai County Sheriff’s Deputies at the scene.
The gunshot killed the 29-year-old woman. Deputies on scene said the child who accidentally fired the handgun was about 2-years-old.
No doubt this woman kept a gun in her purse to protect herself and her children. Didn’t work out that way. As usual.

That armed toddler is lucky s/he wasn’t gunned down by police. Remember what happened to the last person who had a [toy] gun in a Walmart! But s/he will now grow up without a mother, because this gun wasn’t a toy. Sad.

“Of the 49 officers accidentally killed [in 2013], 23 died as a result of automobile accidents, nine were struck by vehicles, four officers died in motorcycle accidents, four officers were killed in falls, two were accidentally shot, two drowned, one died in an aircraft accident, and four officers died in other types of duty-related accidents. Seatbelt usage was reported for 22 of the 23 officers killed in automobile accidents. Of these, 14 officers were not wearing seatbelts, three of whom were seated in parked patrol vehicles. Eight officers were wearing their seatbelts at the times of the accidents.”

So last year, 2 of the 49 cops accidentally killed in the line of duty nationwide died as a result of firearms accidents, which shows it can happen to the best of ’em. (Assuming cops are better trained in firearms handling and safety that the rest of us.) Which might let you to conclude that guns not only don’t make people safer, but are affirmatively and positively inherently dangerous? You gotta wonder about the fact that two-thirds of the cops killed in vehicle accidents weren’t wearing seatbelts, though, which makes you wonder whether cops who don’t buckle up are any safer with guns than a 2-year-old.

Why is there a coffee cup stain on this page? There’ve been bullet holes in HA pages for weeks now. Something very strange is going on with this blog. I know it’s not just on my computer, because I’m using a public library computer right now.

…and she didn’t die in a hail of police bullets like the 12 year old black kid?
Not about race?
Don’t fucking make me laugh.

Well, if someone is going to be shot for the woman’s irresponsibility in handling and securing her gun, at least it was her.
Hopefully the two year old quickly forgets and is never told of this until he/she is old enough to deal with it — maybe 97 and on their own death bed? A surprise announcement at their own eulogy?

It’s tangential to the overall horror of the story but I’ve got to wonder about what make/model of handgun. Maybe this was a really big two-year old but it’s hard to imagine a two-year old being strong enough to pull the trigger on most handguns.
Most stock handguns have a trigger pull of at least 4 pounds with many up around 6. Anything under 3 is really dangerous and should never be carried loosely in a purse.

@4 Another woman who pointed a gun at police isn’t dead, either. She was only shot in the leg.

But being young, black, male, and unarmed makes you so dangerous the police will pump a dozen or more rounds into you, with at least one or two head shots to make sure you’ve been safely neutralized.

It must be tedious to be a liberal, living with the paranoia that race is the motivating factor behind every action.

Understanding and facing reality is never tedious. Tedious would be living my life as a conservative trying to walk around with my head stuck up my ass.

Makes you wonder how safe walking around Walmart is. Even if your not in Idaho. So how many people in the past few years have been killed in Walmart by firearms? Bet you can get a pretty solid answer to that as opposed to the how many people were killed by the police in the USA in 2014. So were the two cops killed accidently in 2013 in a Walmart?

And a nut! What a freaking waste to expend such fanaticsm and emotion on a device that projects injury and death on another.
