Rep. Brian Baird (D-Vancouver) is one of two congressmen currently taking a trip to the Gaza Strip. TPM has the story.
Joining Baird on the visit is Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN), America’s first Muslim congressman. They will, according to a joint press release, meet with key officials from the Palestinian Authority and “view first-hand the destruction from recent Israeli air and ground attacks, and to meet with international and local relief agencies.”
It sounds bad, too.
“The amount of physical destruction and the depth of human suffering here is staggering,” Baird says in the release. “Entire neighborhoods have been destroyed, schools completely leveled, fundamental needs such as water, sewer, and electricity facilities have been hit and immobilized.”
The trip was not sanctioned by the Obama administration.
I admire Israel.
Sounds bad… sure does.
Oh wait a minute, you didn’t mean the damage in israel.
Good thing the muslim democrat went on the trip, it wouldn’t be fair if someone unbiased was passing judgments.
Is Baird going to Israel to talk to the citizens about the terrorism and destruction they’ve had to endure?
God has bless Israel and it’s people.
“The amount of physical destruction and the depth of human suffering here is staggering,” Baird says.
Come on baird tell the whole truth like the little terrorist fired from schools or homes.
Obama is sending money to help rebuild as soon as he and his wife can make more.
I presume Baird will tell Hamas that this is the result of using Gaza as a launching pad for rockets intentionally aimed at civilian areas.
I presume he will also suggest some changes in the education system there so they do not breed hate in their schools. All they are doing is breeding the next generation of “martyrs” and the virgins are running out in paradise.
Uh, I thought the “Palestenian Authority” had been kicked out of Gaza by Hamas. The Palestenian Authoriy only has actual control over the West Bank. Did I miss something?
He can also ask Hamas about using civilian facilities with civilians in them as launching sites.

I would be surprised if he can find any real member of the PA there. Last I read they had been chased out or killed off in Gaza by Hamas.
Besides, Gaza is a gift.

“Gaza is a gift,” the Saudi religious scholar Mohsen al-Awajy told me. He and other delegates repeatedly referred to the Gaza war as “a victory”.

But stop and think about what you’re advocating. (BTW, you are aware that Haaretz is a pro militant right wing publication. Most of the world doens’t follow the American “Fair and Balanced” notion of newspapers.)
Logical extension of the argument. A muder was comitted just outside my house. The murderer is still standing outside on the sidwalk. It is acceptable to launch a massive airstrike. It does indeed kill the murderer but in the process kills me, my children, my neighbor, his dog, the postman who just happend to be nearby and renders a two block area surrounding my house uninhabitable. Good Job!
as said by the headless lucy sockpuppet.
This must be the trolls j.v. squad! Man are you dumbfucks lame. Where’s ” Puddles” today? By the way, just how many dead children will it take to get you bastards off?
@12
Keep spewing your IQ. When the fathers and mothers of these children use them as a shield as them.
As for your kind to even think about the well being of a child is sicking and outrageous.

At first I wondered if English is your primary language then I thought maybe you are some type of poet.Whatever. The point is, punishing a whole group for the actions of a few is a crime.Use of white phosphorus against civilians is a crime.ALL THE CHILDREN OF THE WORLD ARE OUR CHILDREN
No doubt Ellison and Baird searched and searched and searched some more but nary a Hamas killer was to be found.
Wow, there are a lot of knee-jerk Israel supporters on this blog. Is there anything wrong with Baird going to Gaza? Foreign policy is Baird’s most liberal area if you look at his Alamanac of American Politics voting record rankings.
