July 2 Open Thread

This administration is still depressing as all hell. But! For the first time in a long time, I see maybe something. Being with 10000 people who oppose kidnapping children. I would probably feel better if my country wasn’t stealing children from their families, but I saw a little something.

The Special Olympics kick off this weekend in Seattle. I don’t know how they were awarded, but if it’s anything like the other Olympics, I imagine that the corruption was glorious. Bribes and kickbacks galore.

Since China has stopped taking our filthy recycling, can we all try to be better at recycling? Like, your congealed orange juice doesn’t belong in the recycling bin just because it’s in a plastic bottle. I will try to get better at keeping my recyclables dry.

I hope you all enjoyed Pride if you went. I enjoyed the parade, but I had other things to do, so I couldn’t watch the whole thing. It’s not my place as a cishet guy to tell them how to change the parade, but it was pretty long.

I don’t know how America recovers from the Trump era. Impeaching him isn’t going to be enough. Even if everyone in the administration goes to jail for war crimes and crimes against humanity, I don’t know that it would be enough.

Op’n Thread.

I hope that y’all can make it to the protest of Trump’s immigration policies. Of the separation of families. Of the denial of refugees rights. This is America, but it doesn’t have to be. You can find info on the Seattle protest here. Or other locations here. Move On will ask for your info, and give it to them or not, you can still go to the protest.

I dig the hell out of Seattle on a day like today, and the whole weekend. Being so far North, the sun is out forever. It’s too hot but not tooooo hot. I went on a couple nice walks.

It’s too bad that the republic is dying, sure. But at least Mertle Edwards park is amazing.

I am beginning to suspect that it was a bad idea to elect a violent white supremacist as President. I mean, President is a shitty job, and most Presidents are shitty people. But, at least we could have been done with the Presidents who support ripping babies away from their parents. Not since slavery was outlawed, I think.

History won’t be kind to us.

Uppn Thrrd

by Carl Ballard — Wednesday, 6/13/18, 4:22 pm

Naps are awesome and the Devil at once. Yesterday, I got home from work with about an hour before I had to go to Drinking Liberally. It was only Tuesday, but I was already tired. So nap. Rad. I didn’t set an alarm, but it wasn’t very long. Anyway, I was refreshed at DL but when I got home, I couldn’t sleep. So now I’m tired again. So should I take another nap when I get home and start the process again?

Are you excited about how we’re definitely going to solve nuclear weapons on the Korean Peninsula this afternoon? I mean sure, there’s a tiny little bitty chance that nothing happens. Or that something happens that makes things worse.

A surprisingly good unexpected joy in Seattle comes when you pick up a Lime Bike off the ground. Strangers will thank you. When there are several bikes, other people will often help. It’s great. There are a few seconds of community and then back to whatever we were doing. I know, it’s free labor for a private company, but still, can’t beat it.

I’m looking forward to the employment numbers this morning. I may have been briefed on them yesterday, but today I’ll really delve deeper. I’ll be sure to keep Tweeting if I find something interesting.

Prime rate held steady at 79.2%. That’s a number.

They slightly revised the April numbers too. Did you know they could do that?

So Ambien got Rosanne fired?

I blame Ambien for America’s inability to apologize.

Ambien made slavery and Jim Crow.

Ambien fucked up all that money.

Jesus Christ on the Cross, did Ambien make conservatives forgot that they pretend to be about personal responsibility?

It’s not on their website, but KUOW had a piece on the band Thunderpussy. It was fantastic how many times they said it. I have no idea who in standards and practices approved it, but all the kudos.
