(See the last sentence of this post.)
Rummaging through the CNN exit poll results for the gubernatorial race, which starts here, some folks might be interested how many of those vaunted Obama-Rossi voters there really were. (It’s on page three.) In this poll, the answer is 14% of Obama voters supported Rossi. Six percent of McCain voters supported Gregoire.
So now you know.
Late word as I’m writing this post–AP is reporting Rossi will concede at 11:30 AM.
UPDATE (-GOLDY):
No word yet on whether Rossi plans to concede the 2004 election or 2008.
YLB spews:
This is the cherry atop the dessert.
I have NOTHING, I mean NOTHING but unbridled contempt for this mean-spirited, shallow tool of that most CONTEMPTIBLE of gangster organizations – BIAW.
Thank you people of WA State who saw through this empty-suit of a flim-flam man.
Hopefully in his press conference he will refer to his “opponent”, “the incumbent” as GOVERNOR GREGOIRE.
Then maybe that might raise my regard for him just a tiny bit.
notaboomer spews:
No word yet on whether Rossi plans to concede the 2004 election or 2008.
you go, goldy:)
correctnotright spews:
Chuckle (Goldy): I think Rossi is conceding the 2008 election – I don’t think he ever conceded the 2004 election.
Thank goodness Rossi was not elected – having the BIAW dictate things would have been real nasty for the state. Those pundit/commentators who claimed Rossi would not be beholden to the BIAW were lying through their teeth.
Steve spews:
Good riddance, Dino. So long, BIAW.
I reckon the BIAW will be handing out pink slips to our trolls today. To celebrate I think I’ll send Goldy a few bucks. He’s done good, giving us this community here at HA. The bloggers here have given us some great posts. (I absolutely loved the one the other day exposing the tractor photos – what a riot!)
Thanks, Goldy.
YLB spews:
He said her name.
Thank you Dino Rossi – for that much..
YLB spews:
Oh my gosh! He said GOVERNOR GREGOIRE.
There’s just a bit of hope for this guy.
Dave spews:
@4. Steve:
I recommend that folks who currently subscribe to the Times direct their subscription fee to HA instead. That’s what I did. They need to either adjust their journalistic integrity or fold-up and make room for respectable media management.
Dave spews:
Somehow I didn’t get the feeling that Dino’s declamation was quite as eloquent as McCain’s. His audience seemed more upbeat, tho.
Steve spews:
@7 You might say that I am a current subcriber of the HA blog. This is a great blog. I love the cesspool. We might not all be able to kick in, but if enough of us do, we can keep this thing going, perhaps even see it grow.
Kareema spews:
Dino just conceded!!! Woot-woot! If I had to watch one more smarmy, smirky self-righteous ad of his, I’d probably have gone postal.
PS – How do you know Dino is a true politician? He “couldn’t remember” all sorts of details about talking to BIAW during his deposition…
HappyHeathen spews:
In his concession speech Rossi called his campaign a grass roots effort but forgot to mention his friends over at BIAW. No appreciation for that $12 million? Talk about kicking your pals under the bus. Now he can go back to being a slum lord or whatever it is he does.
Zak spews:
for Washington State, the Gregoire election is the best news in 40 years.
under money pressures Dino the Thief and Robber would have gutted every social program, present, past and future.
Gregoire has her work ahead, but, at least there is no secret agenda of ruining the state for the special interests of the right wing.
And, yes, good work over all to Goldy and crew. Geov is a great writer.
proud leftist spews:
I wonder if the BIAW will be giving Dino a job. He needs one now.
chicagoexpat spews:
Another thug from the Republican klavern gains the utter obscurity he so richly deserves.
As I predicted, & after all ballots counted, pretty close to the exact percentage margin: 53%-47%.
Down ballot Democrats at the state level did better than I thought they would do.
CuntSandwitch spews:
Rossi will be lost without his puppet strings. Go home now Dino, yes you are still a fucking loser.
IssyMom spews:
Dino Rossi
John Carlson
Ellen Craswell
Recorded in history. The GOP better move its platform to the center and quit driving their own moderates out of the party. Some good people in the GOP lost because of stubborn mis-direction of GOP leaders in pandering to the religious right.
Mr. Cynical spews:
Did you see where Gary Locke indicated the shortfall (aka Deficit) for the upcoming biennium is likely to be around $4.5 BILLION..not the $3.2 BILLION Gregoire previously said it was?
And the State Retirement Fund Shortfall is like to be around $7-8 BILLION for the 6/30/08 Fiscal Year-End…and even worse because $38 BILLION was invested in Stocks and BILLIONS in Real Estate.
Yet Governor Gregoire PROMISED no tax increases during these difficult times.
Solution:
Lay-off 8,000-10,000 State Employees.
There is no money.
The Construction Industry is in the shitter…and you KLOWNS want to keep pummelling them?
Like I said before, all the things you KLOWNS want from government are impossible without a strong, growing, vibrant economy….which one of the centerpieces is the Construction Industry.
You can stop running for office and start proposing specific things to help improve the economy.
What are your specific ideas???
Ludicrus Maximus spews:
Excellent, but the most important question of all remains unresolved: will Stefan show up at DL and buy Goldy a pitcher of beer?
Guess we’ll have to wait until next Tuesday to find out.
Ekim spews:

You’re funny. Does your face always get that red? :-)
Proud To Be An Ass spews:
The battle against CONservatism is far from over. Read Tom Frank’s latest editorial in today’s Wall Street Journal.
Tom Frank writes columns for the Wall Street Journal? You betcha’. Every Wednesday.
I urge all here to read it regularly.
Proud To Be An Ass spews:
@17: The GOP drives the national economy into the shitter and you blame Governor Gregoire?
You truly are a partisan hack.
Proud To Be An Ass spews:
The construction industry is a highly subsidized social endeavor that is spending vast amounts of OUR wealth creating a lifestyle that will prove to be utterly unsustainable.
Mouthpieces such as Clinical and the BIAW are essentially irresponsible.
Mr. Cynical spews:
As you can see from the comments, the KLOWNS have no solutions.
They are in charge now..yet KLUELESS.
They have blinders on about Gregoire’s massive increase in State spending and blame it all on Bush.
That will get you absolutely nowhere!
TEAM HORSESASS is truly KLUELESS about viable, doable solutions.
I challenge you, as the in-charge Party, to explain what you are going to do and what the consequences will be.
Why is that such a difficult question??
N in Seattle spews:
Hey there, Mr. Sinkhole —
How much longer will BIAW be able to continue paying you to run your mouth here?
One would think that the leadership would understand the concept that you’re “sunk costs”, to go hand-in-hand with their sunk campaign for their sunk
propertycandidate.Dave spews:
@20. Proud To Be An Ass:
We need to distinguish between conservativism and NeoCONism. The two are mutually exclusive, as evidenced by the Neocon infiltration and consequential decimation of the Republican party and attack on traditional conservative principles. As Obama alluded to in his victory speech, values of self-reliance, individual liberty, and national unity are values we all share—conservatives, liberals, and progressives, that is—but not the NeoCONs.
Conservativism has already mingled with liberalism within the Democratic Party, evolving into something of a set of progressive principles—as the Republican Party devolved into NeoCONism.
Progressives embrace individual and mutual responsibility, just as conservatives do. NeoCONS embrace their oligarchic principles.
blue john spews:
#25. Nice post. Good summation
rhp6033 spews:
You’ve got to think that Rossi’s career in state politics is over. Perhaps he could run for the State legislature (again), in a safe Republican district. But I’d be absolutely floored if the BIAW and the Washington State Republican Party tried to push him again for a major office (governor in 2012, our a House or Senate seat before then). If he can’t at least repeat his performance in 2004 with an overwhelming money advantage, then I doubt they are going to trot that pony out for the next ride.
Sure, Rossi apologists will try to explain it in terms of the “Blue Tsumami” which he was struggling against. But Gregoire had a lot of vulnerabilities: she never was an “exciting” campaigner, and she was never able to project warmth in front of the TV cameras. And Rossi had a tremendous funding advantage (thanks to the BIAW and similar big-money supporters), and pulled out ALL the stops in campaigning against Gregoire. His campaign was devilshly deceptive, from the “GOP” label, the “For a Change” slogan, the blue yard signs, and his attempt to make voters blame the Governor for the state’s economic slowdown in face of a much larger national slowdown. In short, he was running against his own national party, hoping that the Washington voters would be confused about who was, and who was not, a Republican.
Luckily, the voters apparantly saw through all this. Either its because Washington voters are higher educated and more knoweldgeable about government economics than the average American, or because they simply didn’t trust Rossi on a gut level, but it worked out okay in the long run.
And I agree – one of the best things about this election is that we will no longer have to listen to his back-to-back ads every night on TV.
proud leftist spews:
Cynical
And the reason that Republicans were so richly rewarded at the polls yesterday is that they have proposed some brilliant solutions for all our problems, correct?
Steve spews:
@17 What are your specific ideas???
I think I’ll just label you a stupid goatfucker and call it good for the day. There was just too much celebrating your crushing defeat last night.
Steve spews:
That goatfucker Cynical actually thinks he’s relevant.
rhp6033 spews:
A pundit on the radio this morning pointed out that as of today, the Republican Party is essentially leaderless. Bush (mentally) checked out from his duties over six months ago, and his mind is already back in Texas. McCain is going to take a lot of the heat for the election loss, nobody in the Republican Party is going to listen to him for a good, long while.
So according to this pundit, the struggle for control of the heart and soul of the party has already begun. It is largly being waged between the Evangelicals on the one side, and the financial interests on the other. This pundit said that the first shots had already been fired: the stories about Palin being called a “Diva” and worse by McCain aides had already been traced back to sources within the Romney camp.
But there was no mention of the “Joe the Plumber” arm of the Republican Party.
Tlazolteotl spews:
Woot!
Now, let the lawsuits against the BIAW go forward, and let them no longer poison our public discourse. RICO! RICO!
Tlazolteotl spews:
@31:
I think we’re gonna need more popcorn!
proud leftist spews:

I’m guessing that given how adeptly the Republicans learn from their mistakes that they’ll turn to Jeb Bush to fill their leadership vacuum. Also, we can be certain that they will continue to try to disinter Reagan’s corpse. That always seems to work for them.
Chuck spews:
Now we can have more sweetheart deals with the indian tribes to rebuild the democratic fund on the taxpayers back.
Chuck spews:
Between her and Hussain they are going to screw it up so much that the local dog catcher will be electable next time around
chicagoexpat spews:
@ 31 ..
good points.
It’ll actually be a small surprise to me if the elderly melanoma survivor who “ran” (stumbled?) against Obama actually survives to see Obama sworn into office.
My own sources say his health problems are far worse than are commonly known. Only time will tell if they’re as biased as I am in viewing Republicans.
Despite having had the benefits of socialized medicine his entire life.
Steve spews:
He should learn something from McCain about a decent concession speech.
What a PIG!
Real American spews:
God, it is wonderful listening to Mr. Marginalized crying like a baby, kicking his feet and banging his fists on the ground!
Show some self respect, Mr. Marginalized! Your BIAW whoring LOST! You are a LOSER! Just fade into the background and grumble to the pigeons in the park!

I’m guessing it’s either going to be Joe the “Plumber” or Joe the Lieberman who voids the fill. Either that, or James the Dobson. Or the original Fritz the Cat. Or Ilsa, She-Wolf of the SS…
Bender spews:
The construction industry isn’t evil, it’s just being manipulated by the BIAW. The solution is to actively work toward replacing the good-old-boy BIAW with an organization that truely represents the builders. This applies to the state GOP party too. They do what they like and try to change the rules or add checkboxes to voter registration challenge forms or plead ignorance when they knowingly break the law. Just throw the puppet-masters out and reform a better Republican party without Mr. Cynical or the all other trolls.
uptown spews:
Of course the BIAW wants the taxpayer to pick up the tab for the infrastructure in their rural sprawl. More corporate welfare.
Mr. Cynical spews:
And the lack of real, tangible solutions by the LEFT remains VOID.
The DOW drops 500 points…worst post-election drop in HISTORY.
Obama is pragmatic..he knows his promises MUST be marginalized & minimized as he struggles to move things forward and not step on his dick by gutting the military.
Obama’s time-line for his Platform does not exist. Why?? Because we are in a global depression…global slowdown. Obama needs a growing economy. So does Gregoire. WHY?? Because spending is fun!
You KLOWNS continue to hurl attacks & expletives BECAUSE YOU DON’T HAVE A KLUE ABOUT WHAT SHOULD HAPPEN!
What should Obama do and when?
What should Gregoire do and when??
Why are these such tough questions???
YellowPup spews:
LOL.
I had it totally backwards. I thought Burner would skate through and that Gregoire vs. Rossi would be the nail-biter.
I guess that’s why I write for the Cesspool and not the blogs.
clarlynn spews:
@ Mr.Cynical
What the next four years in this country will bring, and what’s ahead for this state, has got to be better than the shit-pit your prefered party managed to sink us into. As long as we are able to vote, people like you will only sit in front of a screen spewing bullshit, and not have the gonades to actually get up and implement anything.
Rest easy Washington, the only thing working for Mr C is his hairy palms.
Steve spews:
Why is Cynical so fucked up? Is it because his head exploded at 8:01PM last night?
Politically Incorrect spews:
No income tax for WA. Never, never, ever!
Proud To Be An Ass spews:
“Why are these such tough questions???”
Why didn’t Dino answer them? Oh, that’s right. Only your political opponents are required to answer rhetorical questions.
Got that? (note, “?” mark at end of fragment).
Don Joe spews:
@ 47
Not even if adding an income tax while repealing the B&O tax would result in a lowered tax burden for the majority of Washingtonians?
Geoduck spews:
Re: the next GOP candidate. It’ll be Petraeus. Or at least, he’s by far the most dangerous and realistic possibility out there.
Politically Incorrect spews:
49
No. No income tax no matter what!
I do not want the state government to know absolutely anything about my financial affairs. It’s bad enough that we have a federal income tax. We don’t need another intrusive government enemy looking into our private affairs.
Mr. Cynical spews:
PI–
Gregoire WILL propose a State Income Tax.
Her only way out of the mess she created is a tax increase shell-game!
Watch.
Steve spews:
@51 and 52 Now that you two have found each other maybe you could give the goat a well deserved break.
Don Joe spews:
@ 51
I do not want the state government to know absolutely anything about my financial affairs.
So, why should any of us be swayed by your paranoia?
Dave spews:
@43 Mr. “the” Cynical:
Yep, that’s what happens when people realize that certain lazy, apathetic corporations devoid of innovation and efficiency after years of nursing off of the government nipple and hiding behind government protectionism are going to have to lose their incompetent resource-sucking management in order to start competing on the free market again.
Stock prices will decline for those companies, but eventually, the country will wean itself off the Neocon corporate socialist free lunch feeding tube and compete once again based on entrepreneurship, efficiency, and increased productivity per hour instead of bleeding their employees for more time and their investors of dividend payments.
Aaron spews:
Hey, where do I go to read Tim Eyman’s concession? He was sure loud going in, and got shellacked.
