From October 1, 1977 to sometime in 1984, all firefighters and Police officers who were hired, and eligible for the LEOFF Plan 2(I.E. They have to be fully compensated and defined as firefighters) were not contributing to Medicare. Those of us hired after that date in 1984, do pay into Medicare. However, it was never retroactive. So, all Professional Fully Compensated Firefighters and Police Officers that were hired during that time period, and have not paid into Medicare through 2nd or 3rd jobs, are not eligible to receive Medicare.
I didn’t say that these firefighters weren’t eligible for a Pension. I stated that our Pension is the 2nd worst in the US and we have 1000 members that are not eligible for Medicare.

Let me try this again, at a 3rd grade level. The firefighters and Police officers who were hired during that 7 year period, due to the changes in the LEOFF, have never paid into Medicare. They were exempt. Those hired after 1984, did and do pay into Medicare. However, the action was not retroactive, so those members remained in their exempt status. Like I said before, contact the Washington State Council of Firefighters or the LEOFF Advisory board. Hell, contact your local Rep, and they can even verify.
So, when you say that those officers or firefighters who were hired in say 1980, started paying into medicare after 1984, you are wrong. Hell, call your Firefighters Local Union and they can verify, if you like. Basic research Libtard. Try it, Learn it Love it.
