Washington state Republican ignorati are falling all over themselves to see who can most thoroughly, um, fall all over themselves personally berating our friend Richard Pope for his inexcusable efforts to force his fellow Republicans to observe our state’s voter-approved public disclosure laws.
First Richard had to endure the epistolary pugilism of King County GOP standard bearer David Irons. And now Benton County GOP Chair Patrick McBurney goes in for the kill:
Dear Mr. Pope:
Congratulations on your dubious accomplishment. I would say more but you have already recieved [sic] a response from David Irons [sick], and I don’t need to comment further. However, I thought I would pass this link along where you can connect with like minded people www.kcdems.net.
Sincerely,
Patrick D. McBurney – Chair
Benton County Republican Party
Hmm. Like minded people? You mean, people who can spell? If McBurney’s cruel caricature of a King County Dem is someone who can remember “i” before “e” except after “c”, then, guilty as charged.
Or is McBurney merely implying that Richard’s uncompromising effort to keep his own party honest and accountable relegates him to the rank ranks of us public disclosure fetishists in the donkey party? Ouch.
And as long as I’m taking my red pencil to McBurney’s missive, I suppose it is only fair to go back and grade the writing skills of former Issaquah School Board President David Irons, particularly his eloquent closing paragraph:
I personally forgive you for your actions and the manor [sic] in which you have so aggressively attack [sic] good people. As for your hate, I sorry [sic] to say that is likely to continue to consume you for now until eternity.
You’ve heard of Ebonics? Well, apparently Irons speaks his own peculiar dialect of English, colloquially known as Ironics.
Of course, coming from an oral tradition, Irons’ native Sammamish ghetto patois doesn’t translate well into the written word. To truly convey the full meaning and eloquence of Irons’ prose you have to imagine it being screamed in the face of a frightened female underling.

Pope should publicize the hell out of this. He’ll get wider recognition.

BREAKING NEWS
GOP support for George W. Bush on the Iraq War has officially fractured. See the exclusive video on MSNBC entitled “Blunt Talk.”
11 Republican congressman held a private meeting with Bush at the White House yesterday and the message could not be clearer, one republican told the president he no longer has any credibility with the American public and only Gen. Petraus can deliver any credible news regarding the war in Iraq.
They told the president they are preparing for defeat in their home districts if something isn’t done SOON.
GBS observation; Republicans declare a false victory and “CUT & RUN” “DEFEAT & RETREAT” from the War on Terror before the November 2008 elections.
The realization has come down to this, in order to stop the purging of Republicans from congress and have any outside shot at winning the White House Bush must fall on his own sword.
What’s more at stake for Bush if he pulls out of Iraq before the 2008 elections, his legacy of a failed presidency or his loyalty to the Republican Party?
GBS prediction: Bush’s ego is too large and will not go down in the history books as the president who surrendered to the terrorist in Iraq, in spite of heavy political loses to the GOP.
Baaa haaa haaa haaa
This arrogant, egotistical mother fucker will come back to haunt conservative politics for decades and decades to come.

18 Agreed, the GOPers will do whatever they can to put lipstick on the pig that is the Iraq war (hell, on the entire bullcrap “war on terra'”) as next year’s elections get closer. The question is just how amoral a game they’re willing to play, and how much of a crazy fuck Chimpface actually proves to be. If they decide bail on whatever’s left of Iraq, they’ll quite likely try and say goodbye by doing something pretty grotesque, or create a crisis somewhere else as a diversion. In the meantime, all the while Congress is holding hearings and exposing the entire administration for the den of vipers it truly is, Bush is still going to use his pen and illegitimate executive power to monkey-wrench everything in sight and try to lay the blame on the other side.
Beyond a certain point, impeaching him and keeping him tied up in a trial, even if he’s eventually acquitted, may be the only way to prevent him from doing his worst.

Anyone to the right of Noam Chomsky gets beaten up on this board from time to time. Heck, Goldy has been criticized for being too far right. It’s a left wing blog.
The surprising, and actually hopeful thing here is that when a Republican actually does something honest, a few of the posters here are willing to give him credit for it.
I’ll go beat up on Mr. Pope on some other topic. Heck, he wouldn’t know how to deal with us if we started actually being nice to him on a regular basis.
But like Roger and Lucy, I can admire honesty even when I disagree with almost all of his opinions. I find myself glad that I don’t live in a district that includes Mr. Pope, as I would be tempted to vote for him just because of that honesty.
And if you Republicans want to survive as a major party, you’d better start listening more to folks like him, and less to folks like Mr. Irons.

FricknFrack, Seattle spews:
I agree with John Barelli @ 23.
To be honest, I had always assumed for years that Richard Pope, the endless candidate, was like Jeanette Burrage. Always running for SOME office in the event that ‘name recognition’ would eventually pay off – no matter how UNQUALIFIED she was or poorly she performed when she did strike it “lucky”. I’ve been watching Burrage’s antics since the early ’80s when a group of us Community College students went down to lobby Olympia, asking the legislature to stop cranking up our tuition costs. Showing them that many of us were regular working folks, just trying to improve our skills. Burrage was as cold & rude as a week long dead mackerel. Couldn’t believe anyone would actually vote for her.
After reading many of Richard Pope’s comments here at HA and seeing how his honesty is being scorned by his Republican party (not surprising behavior from a bunch of crooks) – YES, I would definitely consider voting for Mr. Pope. Wish Richard would run against Seattle’s Mayor and give us folks a much needed break!

Yes, I’ve finally figured it out. The Republicans are getting worried about all the votes they’ve lost to the Democrats.
Republicans have shown that they will lie, cheat, do whatever it takes to keep folks from voting for Democrats.
In this case, they’re trying to convince folks that Democrats do not welcome anyone except the ideologically pure. Since I would even consider voting for a Republican under any circumstances whatsoever, for any office, I should just vote for them all. They want me to believe that “real Democrats” don’t want my vote.
They also want anyone that has a religious faith to vote the straight Republican ticket. After all, “real Democrats” hate Christians, so we should just go vote for Republicans.
Nice try, Mr. Esser. I would say “see you at the caucuses” once again, but I’ve realized that I won’t be seeing you there.

57, Right you are, Richard. RES must be a comparative newcomer to the Northwest, because he seems unaware that the Seattle area is one of the epicenters, and perhaps the point of origin, of the Christian left. This is the town where the First Baptist Church (BAPTISTS, for crying out loud!) defied the Reagan administration and gave sanctuary to political refugees from Central America. Look at the leadership of the Church Council of Greater Seattle in opposing this and other wars, and promoting social justice on a local level. Take into account the Catholic clergy who’ve been arrested, some repeatedly, for protesting at the gates of Bangor. You might even check out Ron Sims’ work ministering to the down-and-outers via the Seattle Nightwatch.
We’re not all like Pat Robertson and Ken Hutcherson. A lot of us actually try to practice what Jesus was talking about in Matthew 5.
