The Palm Beach Post has taken Florida Attorney General (and gubernatorial candidate) Bill McCollum to task for his role in the lawsuit seeking to invalidate health care reform, but so far the Seattle Times editorial has been silent on Washington Attorney General (and gubernatorial candidate) Rob McKenna’s role in the fiasco.
No surprise there.
See, the Times editorial board loves Rob McKenna. No, that’s not quite right. They’re in love with McKenna. They want to have his baby. They’re willing to do uncomfortable sexual acts for McKenna that they wouldn’t do for just any guy. You know, metaphorically speaking.
But McKenna’s faux legal arguments are so ridiculous, and the Times own customers so overwhelmingly in favor of health care reform, that coming to their embattled AG’s defense could prove a risky business. If Frank Blethen thinks some of his paper’s previous editorials have generated an angry backlash, just wait until he sees what happens if it blatantly comes out in defense of McKenna’s purely political effort to undermine health care reform.
Personally, I’m not a big fan of boycotts, and as critical as I’ve been, I don’t think I’ve ever urged my readers to cancel their subscription. But if the Times blows McKenna on this one, they shouldn’t be surprised to ultimately lose hundreds, if not thousands of paying customers.
And that perhaps explains their reluctance thus far to editorialize on such a controversial issue.
bronx2seattle spews:
That is the reason why I canceled my sub to the Seattle Times, they are clearly a right wing paper, no left wing media I assure you.
ST proved it when thousands demonstrated downtown for Health Reform, media, television stations….and not even a peep in the printed edition of the Seattle Times.
They wonder whey newspapers are going by way of the dinosaur?
If they did their job = REPORT the truth as they see it, instead of supporting politicians and taking sides they wouldnt be hurting.

I have kept my subscription because of the sports page. I like the box scores from Mariners games, for instance. And, on the Op-Ed page, I do still occasionally see EJ Dionne. But, I think I’m done with the Times.

Health Reform Foes Turn Violent
Widespread violence against Democrats was reported tonight by the Associated Press.
Bricks were thrown through windows of Democratic offices in 4 different states, and at least 10 Democratic congressmen have received threats.
At a news conference, Democratic Majority Leader Steny Hoyer said “people have yelled that Democratic lawmakers should be put on firing lines and posters have appeared with the faces of lawmakers in the cross hairs of a target.”
Rep. Bart Stupak’s office received “a flood of obscenity and threat-filled phone and fax messages. ‘I hope you bleed … and die,’ one male caller told the congressman between curses. A fax with the title ‘Defecating on Stupak’ carried a picture of a gallows with ‘Bart (SS) Stupak’ on it and a noose attached.”
“In Virginia, someone cut a propane line leading to a grill at the … home of U.S. Rep. Tom Perriello’s brother after the address was posted online by activists angry about the health care overhaul. Perriello also said a threatening letter was sent to his brother’s house. Tea party activists had posted the brother’s address online thinking it was the congressman’s home. The post urged opponents to drop by and ‘express their thanks’ for the Democrat’s vote in favor of the sweeping health care reform.”

Doesn’t the Seattle Times run David Sirota’s column? He is supposedly a Progressive columnist, and does host a radio show in Denver on KKZN.(I subscribe to the podcast of it, the third hour on Friday is usually entertaining, shmuck/hero of the week, and a salute to Colorado’s Microbrewing and Craft Brewing industries. I normally don’t read his column, Dave Ross and him go over it on Mondays.(First Hour of Dave Ross’s show)
McKenna used to not have any competition when he was on the King County Council, but I noticed his ads running for AG have often been negative. It might have been the first time he has had competition.
Roger Rabbit spews:
This might be a better state if McKenna puffed on a toke now and then. That guy’s wound up too tight for his own good.

After they get done throwing bricks through windows, what will the Tea Partiers do for an encore? Blow up an American city if the Senate ratifies Obama’s nuclear arms reduction agreement?
http://www.aolnews.com/story/t.....402?cid=10
Personally, I think it’s only a matter of time before the teabaggers get nukes. They may even beat Iran to the punch. While Iran is wiping Israel off the map, the Tea Party will wipe Chicago off the map. After all, a nuke is just a bigger brick.
EvergreenRailfan spews:
Roger, maybe this is where an out for Rep. Reichert might come in, he may be opposed to the bill, but he should denounce the threats, and say in the case of Stupak, fellow cops stick together, regardless of political party affiliation. Rep. Stupak said he was a former police officer.
What they did to Periello was over the top. What did his brother have to do with his vote?
Could former Bush Speechwriter David Frum be the only voice of reason in this debate from the GOP side right now? Although he is from Canada, I bet the GOP will say he don’t count. Although he is a Conservative, and his sister is a Canadian Senator, although appointed by Prime Minister Harper, the embattled Conservative leader(he suspended Parliament for 3 months during Christmas Break to delay an investigation into how detainees in Afghanistan were being handled).

Mr. Cynical spews:
We are talking IF’s here–
IF even one part of Obam-MaoCare is ruled Unconstitutional…Democrats will be tatoo’ed with trying to force an ILLEGAL BILL on the American citizens. That will be ugly.
If it is Constitutional…well, at least we know.
Puddy–
Wouldn’t it be fun to watch the KLOWNS scramble IF part of Obam-MaoCare is indeed Unconstitutional?
They can set up a website to apologize to McKenna for their arrogance & stupidity!!
KMQ1 spews:
@19 – It would not be the first time Congress, Republican or Democrat had a bill overturned on constitutional issues. This one, however, seems to have a lot of strength on the constitutional side. Unless you can make the argument that you could guaranty that someone would never use health care services, ie emergency room or hospital prompting other tax payers to have to pick up the tab, then you can’t say there is not a vested interest to have everyone pay their fair share.
Most constitutional scholars believe that prior rulings does reinforce that congress does have the right pass this law.
Of course all bets are off when you have at least two supreme court justices with the constitutional intelligence of a grapefruit.
Troll spews:
If a Republican President signed a bill saying that all U.S. citizens must buy a handgun, or they will be fined, and a Democrat AG filed a lawsuit arguing that was unconstitutional, would Goldy want the AG to lose his job?

Good idea. I’d start with Macy’s, which regularly posts full-page ads there. Perhaps I’ll send a letter to Macy’s with my cut-up charge-card, explaining the reason why I’m no longer doing business with the store. A few hundred similar letters should at least get this put on the agenda in a meeting at the corporate headquarters.
