@2 There is a faction which has a vested interest in denying climate change entirely, including developers building communities in flat places right near salt water (i. e. the folks who want to turn the old asphalt plant by Richmond Beach into a community of 35,000 souls).
On the other hand, there are those within the capitalist sphere who are sufficiently aware of reality that they see warming as inevitable regardless of the cause, and seek ways to exploit it–witness the planned use of the Arctic Ocean for shipping lanes.
Within that latter group are also our dear friends at Goldman Sachs who are architecting the next worldwide boom-to-bust economic spasm, to be based on the trading of carbon credits.
You have your head in the sand. It’s not about what’s happening now – it’s about what will happen if negative feedback loops get out of hand – the melting of the Siberian permafrost which releases gigatons of methane – a much more dangerous greenhouse gas, the weakening albedo effect of the melting polar caps increasing heating of the oceans all finally leading to the melting of the methane calthrates (releasing much much more gigatons of methane) – not to mention the acidification of the oceans which is undermining coral reefs, important breeding and feeding grounds for fish and other sea life.
A catastrophe is unfolding and you don’t want to believe in the scientists – you’d rather believe in Republicans and their status quo funders from the fossil fuel industries.

Ummm, I went to the link and it doesn’t shut anything up. First it is an old link, from 2002. Second, it is looking at geological time periods, trends over millions of years not hundreds of years. Third, it simply does not apply to the current situation.
It does show that you have no understanding of science, though, if you think it remotely applies to the conversation about climate change.

Abnormally cold in the Midwest, and abnormally dry and hot in the Northwest…..over time we start to have climate change. The data from all over the earth over time has demonstrated climate change and global warming. Some areas may be cooling but overall there is warming.

It’s so funny that Alvin Weinberg, the father of civilian nuclear power, talked up the first stirrings of AGW theory in the early seventies as a big boost for nuclear power.
I’ve been a lifelong opponent of nuclear power and still don’t like pressurized reactors and pebble beds but the liquid flouride thorium reactor that Weinberg tried to shepherd in the 60 and early 70’s is closest thing I’ve seen to an energy and climate change silver bullet. It doesn’t eliminate the waste problem totally but it certainly makes the problem much more manageable and it gives you a means to deal with all the nasty radiotoxic waste that’s out there now.
Replace every coal plant with a thorium reactor and you’ve knocked down at least half of the problem.
And the plants are conceptually as cheap to build as gas burners.

Go to page 50 of Elizabeth Kolbert’s book, Field Notes from a Catastrophe, and you’ll see a graph that Al Gore would love. It shows an armageddon spike in Greenland temperature, a spike that began … 8000 years ago. That’s about 7750 years before the carbon-based Industrial Revolution.

Bjorn Lomborg isn’t a climatologist, so perhaps that’s why he asserts that there’s measurable anthropogenic global warming, but not enough to justify the diversion of resources to its amelioration. (And who/whom did Scientific American select to refute Lomborg’s refutation of fashionable Gorebasm hysteria? Paul Ehrlich who, I believe, has a degree in bugs.
Roy Spencer is a credentialed climatologist. He helped put climate-measuring satellites in space, and he says there’s a slight blip in warming since the catastrophic global cooling of the 1970s, and that there’s more CO2. But there’s no measurable link between the two. In fact, it’s likely that warming happens first, due to the usual cycles, and then CO2 shows an increase, probably due to roiling carbon sinks we call oceans.
Faith-based Democrats — many of whom have a fanatic faith in sciences they don’t understand — are pushing the orthodoxy of warming because the orthodoxy is a Marxist wedge in a post-Marxist world. But that’s just my opinion, and I don’t have a degree in Marxism. I’m a born-again Democrat, though, and I know how we play the game.
