Indicted Democratic Congressman Loses in La.
A Vietnamese-American Republican attorney, aided by Democratic endorsements, defeated indicted Rep. William Jefferson in Louisiana. In Louisiana’s other House race today, a Republican candidate eked out a narrow 48%-47% in a district held by the GOP for over 20 years. Both elections were delayed until today because of Hurricane Gustav.
Roger Rabbit Commentary: All this year, our resident trolls have milked Jefferson’s refrigerator stash of cold cash for all it’s worth, because he’s the only corrupt Democrat they could find. (While a parade of crooked GOP politicians boarded Capitol Hill’s daily prison bus.) Good riddance. We don’t need that seat, and unlike Republicans, we don’t pander to or cover up for corrupt members of our caucus. Jefferson’s district is heavily Democratic, and this young attorney obviously was elected with a lot of Democratic votes. Good for him. And let’s hope he represents his district instead of his party in Congress, because that’s what his constituents hired him for. As for Jefferson, he’s still entitled to the presumption of innocence, whatever it’s worth in his case, until he’s found guilty and boards that prison bus. Sharing a 6 x 10 cell with a Republican congressman is a fitting fate.

Today’s Quote — Reinventing Capitalism
“At the most fundamental level we need a restructuring of capitalism. We need to get rid of the ‘incumbency capitalism’ that entrenches participants in a market while stifling innovation by raising the barriers to entry for innovative ideas. Today every bill out of Washington is engineered by K Street lobbyists to protect the interests of incumbent corporations. Entrepreneurs often don’t even know what legislation is being formulated. We must have new rules that bias the playing field toward ‘innovation capitalism.'” — Sun Microsystems co-founder Vinod Khosla, writing in Newsweek (quoted under fair use)

Fortunately, the Democrats aren’t embarrassed by the having the likes of tax dodger/cheat/evader Charles Rangel among their ranks. Or Chris Dodd, who says he didn’t know he was getting a VIP loan from Countrywide, but refuses to show his loan paperwork. Same with Kent Conrad.
And it is a miracle of luck for the Dems that John Murtha is not one of their party. He has doled out so much pork to his contributors that he will never lose an election.
Barney Frank fortunately doesn’t have that virtuous D behind his name, since he is in the pocket of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. He had a prostitution ring running out of his home in the past, but that will never come to embarrass the D’s.
Charles Schumer has received ungodly amounts of money from the financial sector, and backed their worthiness until the bitter end.
Diane Feinstein has funneled money to her husband’s companies for years, and refuses to recuse herself from hearings that involve family business. No one would dare call her a democrat.
The list goes on. Oh, yeah, that Florida guy who beat the republican who was sending dirty emails to 19 year old pages had a mistress on the payroll, and blackmailed her to stay quiet.
I promise. I’ll quit. Democrats are pure as the driven snow. Just ask our to-be-confirmed Secretary of State who worked to get a bunch of terrorists pardoned, just to pad her vote total for the Senate. Or her non-demo husband who pardoned Mark Rich for a huge donation to his library (with the help of that other not D, Eric Holder).
Whatever.

Roger – there is a way to reformulate Capitalism. It’s called “getting Congress out of the way.” K Street Lobbyists are only successful because crooked congressmen are taking their bribes. Don’t fault the innovative Pay-for-players. Instead, shouldn’t we be looking at the vast power that Congress has to pick winners and losers?
Nice to know you are now a member of the “smaller government” crowd.

So Janet, how many of those guys started a war of choice that will cost our nation $4 trillion?
Did any of those guys attend the mock torture sessions conducted in the White House for the amusement of Bush and company?
And look at the wonderful results of “getting Congress out of the way”.
Wall Street socialism
Never ending war.
Loss of constitutional rights
Mercenary armies.
Violation of international law.
etc. etc.etc
You Republicans have nothing, nothing to talk about. You have been exposed as the criminal fascists you always aspired to be.
Fuck you guys!

Hey Janet – yes Jefferson is gone (yeah!) – and the rest of what you have is…..well, not too much. No facts or convictions. Yes, there are a few democrats who may have made questionable decisions.
However, the republican party is BASED on corruption. If you want the long list you can go here:
There are close to 100 names on the various scandals, including Jefferson. When the republicans stop promoting earmarks, repudiate the K street project (to get all lobbyists in-line ONLY with republicans), stop lying about politicization of the US government and the justice department (Gonzalez et al.)and stop having sex-offenders and indicted/convicted Senators and congresscritters – then maybe you can mouth off.
In the meantime, shut your pie hole. People living in glass houses should not be throwing any stones. When your party is free of sin – then you can cast the first stone – Ms. HYPOCRITE!

You guys are so cute. In the HA world, all Dems are good, all Republicans are bad. Must be nice not to have to use your brain.
Oh, and it is best to silence the other side when your own argument is so weak it can’t stand up to challenge. It is the liberal way!
