As for the management saying they are going to liquidate Hostess, there’s probably a plan in place for a new company to buy the Hostess assetts in bankruptcy for pennies on the dollar, with the current management keeping well-paying positions and receiving big bonuses upon culmination of the deal. They will then invite workers to interview for their old jobs, at significant wage cuts and no benefits.

As the old saying goes, “Bankruptcy is the art of taking your wallet out of coat pocket and putting it into your back pocket, then handing your creditors the coat off your back”.

They don’t have an image problem, they have a corruption problem. Deal with the corruption problem and the image problem will take care of its self.

For those who aren’t familiar with the case Otto Zehm was a developmentally disabled guy who walked to the same connivence store several times a week to buy a candy bar. On his last trip to the store a couple of teenage girls thought he looked suspicious (actually he looked retarded) and called the police. Officer Karl Thompson got the call from 911 dispatch and raced into the store and proceeded to beat Otto, who was in the process of picking out a candy bar and whom I would suspect looked like a retarded guy buying a candy bar, to death.

I love Spokane and am a defender of the place, but their police department is flat out corrupt.

A dark chapter in the Spokane Police Department’s history was closed Thursday as former Officer Karl Thompson was sentenced to 51 months in prison for violating Otto Zehm’s civil rights and using excessive force during a 2006 confrontation.

After sentencing, the defense team attempted to have Thompson stay free pending an appeal of his sentence. Judge Fred Van Sickle denied the request and ordered that the former police officer, once considered a contender for Spokane police chief, to begin serving his prison sentence. He was handcuffed and escorted out of the courtroom.
