On Tuesday, at around 5:00 PM, I donated $100.00 to Peter Goldmark’s campaign, and challenged you all to give what you could to Peter and Darcy Burner by the midnight, August 30th reporting deadline. I’m thrilled to report that over the past 55 hours, 55 of you answered my call and donated a total of $3,535.00.
While we fell a bit short of yesterday’s goal of doubling the number of contributors to my ActBlue page, we far exceeded my expectations for total dollars raised. I’d only hoped to average about twenty bucks per donation, and maybe a couple thousand dollars tops. But your generosity blew that target away.
Netroots fundraising is still in its infancy, but it’s obviously more mature here than virtually anywhere else. 120 HA readers have now contributed a total of $6,778.36 to Goldmark and Burner via my ActBlue page. With average daily traffic of about 2400 unique visits a day, that’s an astounding response rate of 5 percent… a response rate most direct marketers wouldn’t dare dream of.
Compare that to the National Netroots ActBlue page, which has leveraged a combined readership of over 600,000 readers a day to raise about $620,000 from 7,600 donors. That’s respectable, even impressive, but on both a donor and dollar per reader comparison, HorsesAss readers kick ass.
I want to thank you all for your generosity and support. With your help we can take back Congress this November, and finally bring some accountability back to the other Washington.

That I happen to believe just as strongly in the same causes, that after all, is what drew me to HA in the first place. (I admit that when Michael Brown blamed the blog for losing his job, I was tying the web address into my browser to see who had the guts to call him out). For the most part, I read and did not comment. Now lately I have taken to standing up to the RightWingNuts. Sometimes with intelligent comment befitting my education. And other times I can’t resist a good gutter fight.
But I have taken other steps too. They are small, but I am just learning how to be politically active. Some of the steps involve posting here, or donating to candidates I support (as I did today). I also have taken to wearing politically aware t-shirts and posting signs for candidates I support.
Silence won’t cut it and I have David to thank for making me aware of how important speaking up really is. If we remain silent, if we do nothing, then we deserve exactly what we get.

I am always amazed at the lack of depth, intelligence and civility in JCH’s comments. What my father, the Jewish father who stood at the gates of Dachau when the concentration camp was liberated, the father who cried when he showed us pictures and told the story of what he saw, taught me is so true: The difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits.
Now JCH knows that several of the posters, and the blogs owner, are Jewish, yet the fact that he insists on making “fun†of something so horrible as the Holocaust is completely reprehensible. I got mad a few times and then I realized that he is one of a sad, pathetic group of folks…people who have never accomplished anything of substance in their entire lives… who feel the need to draw that anger from which they derive the energy to continue on in their sad, pitiful journey.
JCH embodies what the rest of us are fighting against. Selfishness, racism, ignorance and discrimination against those they perceived to be weaker or less than themselves. The truth is, they are the ones who are weak. They shout in the hope to hide their weakness, to appear strong. We are no longer fooled. Their power base is about to collapse. Like drowning men, they are grasping at anything they can to save themselves.
We are no longer fooled and they will drown.
I pity the people like JCH, they will never be happy. They will only know anger and bitterness their entire lives.

Like I have been saying all along. If you look at what you get with a republican controlled government, you have to realize there’s a price to pay for their policies.
The GOP with the help of Ronnie RayGun destroyed the air traffic controllers union. Now we have a system that’s far less valuable and where we receive far less protection for possible crashes thanks to the “we want less government” types in the GOP. If we took the money we’re pissing away in Iraq and put it to use protecting people right here in p[aces like oh, how about Kentucky, it would make for a safer America.

So as a true compassionate conservative, I’ll lay out the options here for ya Goldy:
1) Open up your wallet and pay more and more property tax every year until you are forced out of your home. Even if you can do it, do you want to make seattle a place where only the rich can live? Or do you not give a fuck about anybody else?
2) Join Eyman’s campaign to fight defeat the tax increase, and expose yourself to be the fucking hypocrite that you are. Admit that you are wrong about taxpayer rights, and thank Tim in pubic for giving you the right to vote on major policy issues.
3) Support the tax hike and agree that the tax money has to be raised, but make somebody other than you pay. You could take the tried and true class envy approach and make those “rich people” in Magnolia and Queen Ann pick up the tab. Remember, a “fair tax” in moonbat parlance is a tax that the other guy has to pay.
4) Or just keep quiet and hope I go away. That’s not gonna happen.

“After her court appearance, Carey told reporters she felt that exotic dancers should be allowed to touch themselves during their performances, and that she might consider moving to Washington State to run for governor and change the law….
Other Carey political ambitions included attending a private dinner in July at the White House, accompanied by Kick Ass Pictures President Mark Kulkis. Kulkis serves as an honorary chairman on the National Republican Congressional Committee’s Business Advisory Council.

OHIO DELAYS DESTRUCTION OF 2004 BALLOTS AMID GROWING EVIDENCE OF ELECTION FRAUD
From the New York Times:
“(Aug. 31) — With paper ballots from the 2004 presidential election in Ohio scheduled to be destroyed next week, the secretary of state in Columbus, under pressure from critics, said yesterday that he would move to delay the destruction … a team of statisticians and lawyers, say preliminary … ballot inspections show signs of more widespread irregularities than previously known.
“ … Bill Goodman, legal director of the Center for Constitutional Rights, (said) ‘There is a gap between the numbers provided in the local level records, which until recently no one has been allowed to see, and the official final tallies that were publicly released ….’
“After eight months inspecting 35,000 ballots from 75 rural and urban precincts, the critics say that they have found many with signs of tampering and that in some precincts the number of voters differs significantly from the certified results. In Miami County, in southwestern Ohio, official tallies in one precinct recorded about 550 votes. Ballots and signature books indicated that 450 people voted.
“The investigation has not inspected all 5.6 million ballots in the election because the critics were not given access to them until January. That followed an agreement by the League of Women Voters, a plaintiff in another election suit against the state, that it was not contesting the 2004 results, Mr. Goodman said. …
“Steven Rosenfeld, a freelance reporter formerly with National Public Radio, said the investigative team analyzed … poll books used by officials to record the names of voters casting ballots, signature books signed by voters and used to verify that signatures match registration records, and optical scan and punch card ballots, used by 85 percent of the voters in the state. The rest used touch-screen machines. … (He) said … ‘we found … shoddy handling of ballots, and … indications of … ballot stuffing.’”

“The union destroyed itself with it’s illegal strike.” Commentby sgmmac— 8/31/06@ 5:24 am
A typically facile comment of a typically shallow conservative mind. Completely overlooked is the bad working conditions that led the relatively well-paid controllers to stake their jobs and union on an illegal strike in the first place — and the provocations by FAA management that led them to walk out.
Reagan’s peremptory action of firing the controllers and crushing their union did nothing to solve the air traffic control system’s problems, which are still with us today — antiquated equipment, understaffing, debilitating shift rotations, ham-handed management, chronic underfunding.
Way to go, Republicans. The conservative approach always is: Kill ’em all, and let God sort ’em out. It saves them the trouble of having to solve complicated problems or spend taxpayer money on anything except pork, corruption, wars, and tax breaks for the rich.

Mark the Gasbag is full of shit when he claims I denied there is a link between cutting tax rates and subsequent increases in federal revenue. He’s also full of shit when he denies there is no link between cutting tax rates and subsequent decreases in federal revenue.
A 0% tax rate produces no revenue. A 100% tax rate also produces no revenue, because there would be no economic activity. Somewhere between the 0% and 100% tax rates, there is a tax rate that maximizes federal revenue. If the existing tax rate is less than this figure, cutting the tax rate will decrease revenue. If it’s more, cutting the tax rate will increase revenue.
Let’s test this against real world facts:
2000 – $1,372,376,000,000 (baseline year)
2001 – $1,297,063,000,000
2002 – $1,152,413,000,000
2003 – $1,069,364,000,000
2004 – $1,146,664,000,000

Just real hard to keep those anti-soldier sentiments contained, especially after listening to Lt Ehren Watada…
Finally, the only reason the Republican states are portrayed in red is because, after the networks first used blue for Republican and red for Democrat, the Democrats complained that the networks were slurring the D’s by using Socialist red for D states. So the networks reversed it in later elections.
In this state, color coding of ballots gave us Democrat red, Libertarian blue, and Republican green. One Libertarian I know said you got Republican Green by taking Libertarian blue and mixing in some yellow stripes…
Historically, neither party has been self-identified with a color, but feel free to take your orders from the mainstream media…

Roger Rabbit spews:

Why not? Wingnuts blame Clinton for everything. I know how to play that game, too.
Roger Rabbit spews:

Actually, Sgt. Simpleton, I wasn’t “blaming” Reagan. I simply pointed out that firing the controllers didn’t solve the systemic problems that caused them to strike — and that Reagan made no effort to address those problems.
In fact, firing the controllers had nothing to do with the strike itself. It was for Russian consumption. This happened right after Reagan took office, and he wanted to establish a “tough guy” image. It was all intended to make an impression on the Kremlin; firing the controllers was merely a useful tool for that purpose, with the added attraction of breaking a union and fucking over some unionized workers.
Was the strike illegal? Yes. Should the controllers have gone on strike? What other recourse did they have. FAA management bore as much responsibility, if not more, for the illegal strike as the strikers themselves, who were driven to it by desperately bad management. And Reagan (and subsequent GOP administrations) did absolutely nothing to solve the real problem.
Republicans manage air traffic control like they manage port security: They inspect 1/2 of 1% of cargo containers, and vote against any increase in funding for port security so they can give more tax breaks to rich people.
My point is, Republicans aren’t problem solvers. They’re the problem, not the solution.

As for the union and the strike, well, I don’t know too many people in charge of the country who would put up with it. If the state workers here went on strike, I would give Gregoire 2 weeks of negotiating and then if they didn’t go back to work she’d fire all their asses!
